Week 6 is here and we are ready to roll with some WR analysis.
STL @ Baltimore:
Now that's the Raven's defense everybody expect to see last week against the 9'ers. This is a bad match up for the Rams guys. They are playing hurt and on grass. Not a good combination for this team.
Holt/Bruce/Bennett: Was that really Gus Frerotte out there throwing three TDs last week? Well, that ain't happening this week folks. I'm starting to wonder if "Big Game" Torry Holt will get a 100 yard game this year folks. Meanwhile, Ike Bruce is nursing an injured hammy and should be avoided. This could open up some nice opportunities for Drew Bennett, but he’s got to do more than catch two balls like he did last week.
Mason/Clayton/Heap: Quick question. Who’s leading the NFL in receptions and targets right now? His name is Derrick Mason. Dude has not had less than 12 targets in a game the whole year. He’s been a PPR machine since week one. Now if he could only figure out now to get into the end zone? I'm starting to give up on Clayton. He's done nothing this year to impress me. Check the injury report on Todd Heap, as he could be a solid option this week.
Tennessee @ TB:
This should be one of the better games this weekend as both defenses like to get after the opposing offenses.
Jones/Williams: Going up against the 9th ranked pass defense, Jones, Williams, and any other receiver on the Titans offense will be harassed. Last week, QB Vince Young had a very poor outing against one of the league's worse defenses in the Falcons. Brandon Jones caught three passes for 36 yards on six targets. Roydell Williams was mysteriously absent from the Titan lineup as well. This is an all around bad match up for the Titan receivers against the Buc's secondary. Avoid all Titan receivers.
Galloway/Hilliard: Ike Hilliard has been more active the last two weeks within the Buc's offense than Joey Galloway. Hilliard had another solid outing against the Colts last week catching eight passes for 58 yards on nine targets. Meanwhile, Galloway chipped in for four catches and 50 yards on nine targets. Sooner or later, Galloway is going to get back on track. The Titans have the 10th best pass defense in the NFL but I still like Ike Hilliard as a possible sleeper this week.
Sleeper: Ike Hilliard: 5 catches, 60 yards, TD
Philadelphia @ NYJ:
Will the real Eagles team please stand up? After waxing the Detroit secondary back in week 3, the Eagles once again looked very ordinary week 4 against a bad Giant’s secondary. Now they have what looks to be another easy match up on paper.
Curtis/Brown/Westy: The only reliable option here seems to be Westbrook. You know he will see a ton of dump off passes. Curtis is always a downfield threat, and Reggie Brown has been virtually non-existent. The Jets are in the bottom of the NFL in pass defense, so a big game out of one of the receivers should be expected. Roll the dice with Curtis this week, as he should be able to get pass defenders into the open field. McNabb could have a couple long balls headed into Curtis’ direction.
Sleeper: Kevin Curtis - 6 catches, 80 yards, TD
Cotchery/Coles: It’s a damn shame these two can't get a better QB than Chad Pennington. I'm so sick and tired of watching Pennington throwing the little 10-15 yard passes. The dude has a noodle of an arm, and it's only a matter of time before the coaches realize that Kellen Clemons is the better option if they want to start winning games. Look for Cotchery to rebound after a disappointing week 5 and grab at least 6 balls this week for 80+ yards. Laveranues Coles continues this to be one of the most underrated fantasy football players. All the guy does is produce.
Cincinnati @ KC:
Housh/CJ: After a week off, Housh and CJ return to take on the Chiefs secondary. And even though the Chiefs are boasting a top 10 pass defense, we are talking about Palmer, Housh, and CJ here. I'm not sold on Rudi Johnson being healthy which will calculates into the Bengals having to throw the ball. Housh was leading the league in targets before the bye week, so I expect Carson to be looking for him early and often this week against the Chiefs. I would not be surprised if Housh and Chad each go over 100 yards as well as find the end zone.
Bowe/Gonzo: Both of these guys make great starts this week against the 28th ranked pass defense. Rookie sensation Dwayne Bowe continues to impress as last week he caught four passes for 70 yards on six targets. Gonzo had his first 100 yard game last week against the Jags and should be able to duplicate that again this week, as the Chiefs have no one to match up against him. Depending on how much LJ gets used, Bowe could also go over 100 yards receiving.
Houston @ Jacksonville:
YAWN:
Davis/Owens: Texan receiver Andre Davis has yet to go under 70 yards receiving this year. He has done a fantastic job filling in for the injured Andre Johnson. TE Daniel Owens also turned in another solid outing as he hauled in a season high 96 yards last week. These are the only two receivers to fantasy owners should be starting right now. My sleeper in this game is Andre Davis, as I see him going for another 70+ yards and getting into the end zone as well. He makes a nice WR3/Flex this week.
Sleeper: Andre Davis - 5 catches, 80 yards, TD
Williams/Northcutt: Jag receiver Reggie Williams' streak of two straight games with a TD ended with a pathetic two catch 12 yard performance last week. Instead, it was Dennis Northcutt doing the damage with four catches for 73 yards and a TD. Northcutt has been the most consistent receiver on the Jags and he could be in for a big day against the Texan secondary. I like Northcutt as a sleeper play this week, so start him as a WR3/Flex.
Sleeper: Dennis Northcutt - 5 receptions, 70+ yards, TD
Washington @ GB:
Moss/Randle El/Cooley: Redskin receiver Santana Moss is expected to be back this week, but honestly he is not a good play this week against a tough Green Bay defense. The front four of the Packers will be putting pressure all day long on Campbell and I do not think he will be getting enough time for find Moss down the field. Randle El injured his hamstring last week, so check his status before game time. Cooley may be the only Skin I'd start this week as he could get open on short routes and get a possible score near the goal line. With the exception of Cooley, stay away from the Skins receivers this weekend.
Driver/Jennings/Jones: Another great game from this trio against the Bears last week. However, I would sit these guys this week. The Skins have a nasty defense this year and are only allowing 12 points per game. They have also only allowed two TDs through five games. This will be a low-scoring affair that should be very physical IMO.
Miami @ Cleveland:
Edwards/Winslow: I must admit, at the beginning of the year, I was not a fan of either one of these two players. But strong play out of Derek Anderson from the QB position has changed my mind. These guys are must starts and this week they will get a Miami secondary this week that they should be able to exploit. Look for big games from Winslow and Edwards this week as each will make a visit into the end zone.
Booker/Chambers/Brown: After a fast start, Fins receiver Chris Chambers has cooled down considerably. He was near the top of the league two weeks ago in targets, but has since fallen of the planet? Marty Booker led all Fin receivers last week, while RB Ronnie Brown remains their best option running and catching the ball. The Cleo Lemon show has finally arrived for the Fins after Trent Green suffered his gazillionth concussion. Until I see Chambers snap out of his funk, I would not recommend him in any fantasy lineup. His counter part Booker seems to be getting the looks within the offense, and I think he would be a sneaky start this week as a WR3/Flex.
Sleeper: Marty Booker - 5 catches, 70 yards, TD
Minnesota @ Chicago:
Man that was an ugly win on Monday night for the Bears. I still can't believe they were able to come back against Brett and the Pack.
Wade/Rice: Have the Vikes realized what they got in the second round in last year's draft? Rook Sidney Rice had his best game of his young career in week four against the Pack by catching six passes for 75 yards and a beautiful TD catch where he snagged the ball over the defensive back. Bobby Wade also had a solid game against the Pack five passes for 83 yards. These two guys could be considered WR3/Flex plays considering how the Bears are having problems against the pass.
Sleeper: Sidney Rice - 6 catches, 80+ yards, TD
Berrian/Moose/Olsen/Clark: Griese looked a lot more comfortable throwing to his TE's last week against the Packers than his WRs. Olsen and Clark combined for seven catches, 119 yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, Berrian and Moose disappointed anybody who had them in their lineup. The Bears will not be able to run the ball, but they may have some success through the air. The player to watch in this game in my opinion is Greg Olsen. I have no doubt in my mind this guy will live up to his first round selection. Last week was just a taste on what this kid can do. He's a nice sleeper pick this week so if you need a TE this week, grab Olsen.
Sleeper: Greg Olsen - I like the Rook a lot. 5 catches, 50 yards, TD.
I'd consider Berrian and Moose this week too.
Carolina @ AZ:
Smith/Colbert: With David Carr at the helm, the Panther passing game has taken a nose dive. Receiver Steve Smith continues to find the end zone, but his catches and yards are taking a huge hit. And did you guys here that there was a Keary Colbert sighting? Someone told me he caught four passes for a team-high 74 yards? Can anyone verify this?
Boldin/Fitz: Fitz and Boldin have nice match ups this week against a Panther secondary playing uninspired football right now. The Cardinal passing game should have no problems shredding this secondary. Check the injury report on Boldin, but he should be good to go after taking last week off. And we all know who Warner’s favorite receiver is right?
Oakland @ SD
Porter/Curry: The way to beat the Bolts is through the air folks, as they rank near the bottom of the league in pass defense (27th). Nobody knows what to expect from Daunte Culpepper after his five TD performance two weeks ago. I said this a few weeks ago, I think Culpepper will do a fine job fantasy wise until JaMarcus Russell is ready. Should be interesting to see which receiver CPepp throws the ball. Porter and Curry both make great starts this week and can be safely started as WR3/Flex plays.
Sleeper: Ronald Currey - 6 catches 80+ yards, TD
VJax/Gates/LT: Bolts TE Antonio Gates is an absolute monster. The Raiders have nobody to match up against him, and he should easily go over 100 yards and get into the end zone at least once. VJax is not getting a lot of targets, but he did make the most out of his four targets last week against the league’s top passing defense by catching three of them for 84 yards and a score. He should be a solid option this week against the Raiders along with LT.
NE @ Dallas:
It does not get any better than this folks. The two best offenses in the league squaring off and sporting 5-0 records. For some odd reason, I think defense may have more of an impact on this game than the offense. I don't see either one of these teams getting into the 30’s.
Moss/Welker/Watson: Moss had his first off game of the year last week against the Brownies, but they did not really need him because Ben Watson came up HUGE by hauling in two TDs. Wes Welker has now been quite the past couple of weeks only catching seven passes for 41 yards and not end zone action. He deserves a spot on the bench until he reasserts himself. Moss and Watson are must starts, and Welker takes a seat on the bench this week.
TO/Witten/Crayton: This business of TO and Moss not getting into the end zone is JUST NOT COOL. They each need to get into the end zone this week to see who has the more creative TD celebration. Would you like to know why TO has been so quite offensively? It's because of Witten and Crayton who have been absolutely on fire the last two weeks. I expect Witten and Crayton to step it up again this week against the Pats. You can't bench any of these guys despite how good the Pats passing defense is, because Romo and this offense are just that good.
N.O @ Seattle:
Colston/Henderson/Bush: It'ts getting harder and harder for me to recommend playing any Aint’s this year. Just when you think they should snap out of their funk against a bad Panther secondary, they put up 13 freaking points? Reggie Bush would be the only Saint at this point on a fantasy roster. Don't believe the Henderson hype. Yea, his numbers looked great but he dropped several balls that should have been caught as well. Colston their best receiver but he had the same problem last week as Henderson and dropped several catchable passes. I'd find better options than Colston and Henderson this week.
Branch/Engram/Burlson: If you don'tt have Bobby Enrgram on your team, you may want to see what you can get for him. With receiver Dion Branch out with an injury, Engram will become a major factor within the offense. He was already having a good season with Branch in the lineup and now his value gets even higher. Burlson will also now get some looks within the offense and needs to be on a fantasy roster. Both of these guys could make great sleeper plays this week.
Sleeper Alert: Bobby Engram - 6 catches 70+ yards, TD
NYG @ ATL:
Just when you though the G-men were going to be the laughing stock of the NFC this year, they have turned things around and look like a legitimate threat in the NFC East. And in Atlanta, they just need to tank the rest of the season and grab the best QB available in the draft next year.
Burress//Shockey: I'm kicking myself in the butt for not taking Burress this year. Dude has been a STUD this year. He gets a pathetic Falcons pass defense this week he should be able to absolutely just abuse. 100+ yards and two TDs are not out of the question for Plax. Shockey showed everyone last week that he has not lost the directions on how to get into the end zone by getting in for the first time last week. He could find his way yet again this week, but only if Burress stops hogging all of the TD love his getting.
White/Crumpler: Two stinking catches for four yards Alge? Jesus Christ dude, YOU SUCK! It's not like you have Joey Harrington passing the ball to you or something. Roddy White? Did I really recommend this guy last week? I apologize if I did. Please do not start any of the Falcon receivers the rest of the year.
STL @ Baltimore:
Now that's the Raven's defense everybody expect to see last week against the 9'ers. This is a bad match up for the Rams guys. They are playing hurt and on grass. Not a good combination for this team.
