WW shenanigans? (1 Viewer)

If the first draft on the waiver wire takes the hot pick and then trades him the next week to another team a couple of slots

down on the WW, effectively jumping the second in line; does that sound fishy? Any expierience with this and how was it handled. Is this a square way to set up an even trade?

What the owner does with the player he had priority to claim after he claims him, quite frankly, is none of your business. It doesn't matter how the guy got on his team, once he's there the owner is free to do what he wants to with him.

Of course. Not sure why anyone would question it.

If I own AP, CJ, Gore and #1 ww if Turner gets injured and Snelling is available I'm still claiming him and looking to trade immediately. Now if you have a league where ww resets each week to the reverse order of the standings and an 0-5 team is trading guys to a hard luck 2-3 team for Todd Collins, a beer and some advice on next years draft class then maybe you have an issue.

The cynic in me is betting that you had the #2 waiver priority.

Wait so you think the team with a legitimate claim to the top waiver wire pick should leave him for #2 in line because? What happens after he is on a roster is subject to the same scrutiny as any other trade. I made a trade this week subject to the guy with a great waiver wire position picking up someone I wanted and trading him to me. Had I offered him cash and a bag of cheetos that would have been an issue. Since I traded him an upgrade at RB for an upgrade at Wr for me it was a fair trade.

If I have the opportunity to pick up a trade-able commodity, then I would do that then turn around and deal him. Good move by the owner in question.

No problem with it unless...Your waiver system always give the "worst" team #1 waiver priority. This would be a problem with your waiver system.

It was a case of collusion. I have experience a situation where a team used his "buddy" to circumvent the waiver order.

Yep, exactly what I would do. Smart also. I don't leave value on the table if I can put it on my team and then get even more value in return for my shrewdness.

Yeah, but guys, what if someone picks up a player that I really really wanted...and then they won't trade him to me. Instead they (gasp) trade him to someone else!

Isn't that fishy???

This situation never happened, I was wondering if it is poor sportmanship to ask the first on the WW to pick up the guy you want then trade for him; having the deal in place before he makes the WW pick.

Completely fine. You trade your assets. Your WW pick is one of your assets. Since most league setups don't actually allow you to trade it, you just do it in a roundabout way. There can definitely be issues of how that asset is distributed, but apart from that system there is nothing wrong with using it in a trade.

Not at all, IMO. It's a scenario I've envisioned being in, and would have no qualm making an offer to that guy one day.

Not even. You convert the pick to a different asset, and then you trade that. When you trade Chris Johnson in Week Six, you're not finding a roundabout way to trade your 1.01 in the 2010 draft. You're trading Chris Johnson.Same deal with a player you just got off the wire.In years past, I have picked a backup off the wire, and tried to trade him to the owner of the player he backs up. Never thought anything of it.

Just so I'm straight with this: if I go to the worst player in my league and ask him to pick player X off the WW and I will trade him a player from my team [a square value trade]; my commish (or others) shouldn't give me heat.

It is something I am considering doing; but it seemed underhanded, to me, to approach somebody in my league to pick up a player for me for someone in return - too much behind the scenes, quid pro quo stuff. If it seems kosher with everyone else I'll give it a shot.

Every trade is behind the scenes, quid pro quo.
