when you enter the house, you press a plastic pusher to close the door..........its got the time and temperature too that flash and rotate.

just checked the reading.  94 degrees in there.  Camels!  I thought Marlboros were cool until mine dropped dead at 41.  Marlboro Man indeed.

:banned:   mine dropped dead at 51   :banned:   here's to em!

Better than a tiny kennel that most people use.  Unless you can prove it's hot as hell I'd mind your own business.

Fans, water, concrete is cooler than the air temp.  Dog is probably living like a king.

I have built hundreds of homes.  Insulated every one of them.
I'll settle this debate.  Most newer homes are.  Depending how old the home is it might only be insulated in the shared walls of the house.

Everyone who passed on ringing the doorbell and having a discussion and went right to calling animal control are the worst type of neighbors to have.

Agree with this, unless you have had problems with that neighbor before. No one should just assume that talking to the person would go badly.

There is a possibility that there is a doggy door.  I live in Florida my garage is not insulated there is no way that it gets too hot for any of my dogs even the ones with long hair.  It is more humane having them in there than tied in their backyard or in some cases in the backyard fenced with no shade.  It is possible they keep the dog in there during the day while at work so the dog does not destroy their house some breeds are known for this.  Also better than crating the dog for 8 hours at a time.  I could see concern if the dog was kept in a metal shed that would amplify the heat but I doubt seriously it gets hot enough in a garage to do the dogs harm.  I am all about protecting dogs though so if there is any doubt then you did the right thing.  I have never met a dog I didn't like I can't say that about people so whatever it takes to look out for them I am all for.

Why bother cracking the door? Probably letting all the hot air into this doggy paradise the guy has set up.

Not everyone treats Dogs like housepets.  If they have shelter, food, water, and access to do their business I don't think you can ask for much more. Temp in the garage might be a concern but its really an unknown.

Also, please add this to the 20-30 years ago thread.  Seems like a lot more people back then kept dogs outside or on a run (run, not tethered to a tree although that happened a lot too).  These days if Fido doesn't share the luxuries of the air-conditioned house its animal cruelty.

And yes, my dog lives in the house.
We had an outside dog. Had a fancy house and everything

update.....garage is now closed and i have not heard barking nor seen dog since original post.  perhaps his awesome garage set up wasn’t so awesome.

No, Illinois, surprisingly roughly the same average temperature in the summer months.  Humidity is of course different, but if we need to get into humidity %'s to decide if something is animal abuse I doubt we'll ever agree.
I haven't had my air conditioning on in almost 2 weeks.

There is no way it is 100 degrees in the garage.
Wow.  Really?  It can easily get to 100+ here in Houston.  Shade in a garage without any air circulation isn't going to make it any cooler, especially if it isn't insulated.  Many garages here are not.

No. They don’t realize that.

A dog in a garage with a fan is fine. Jesus people.
Again, a fan makes no difference for a dog.  They don't sweat through their skin.  No sweat, no cooling.

Of course I know that dogs didn't exist before 1915.

this is what i did.  i am pretty level headed, but i don’t need a potential confrontation.  nobody wants anyone all up in their business and people tend to get hyper defensive.  it sucks to be anonymous, but, without this dog being able speak like mine can, i can’t take a chance he’s in some type of distress.  way too many “i should’ve done something” stories out there.
"Look at me and my talking dog"

This is wrong and the 2nd time you posted it. Dogs do sweat. Mostly through panting, a little through their paws.

A fan does help, just not as much as it does with a human because a dog's fur acts as an insulator. Would it be enough? It would depend on a lot of factors, if the fan was in a window pulling cooler air from outside, the power of the fan, the size of the dog, if the dog was actually in front of the fan. All things only the home owner knows.

And that's what i said.  They sweat on their nose and paw pads.  A fan just isn't very effective for a dog.  That small an amount of sweat makes for ineffective evaporative cooling.

Update;  still no sign of dog.  But, garage remains closed.  Will check Chinese take-outs and new Korean BBQ that will be opening.
