Looks pretty good. They just did a split screen with him throwing and Clemens throwing and they are spitting images of each other except I haven't seen Hughes hit 98 on the gun yet. He's been around 92-93
Although he only has 1 BB he seems to be struggling a bit with his location. Not necessarily wild but just missing spots. He's doing a very nice job mixing pitches....93 mph fastball, 71 mph 12 to 6 curve and an 80 mph changeup. Being a Yankee fan having been watching the likes of Chase Wright, Darrell Rasner and Jeff Karstens, it's obvious Hughes' stuff is head and shoulders above them. I could see him sticking with the Yanks all season.
BTW, he'll be out soon regardless of results. around 70-75 pitches now in the 4th and there's no way he'll throw many more than 90.
Rough 1st inning but settled down nicely until the 5th. His fastball has very good life to it and his curve is pretty nasty. His downfall tonight was leaving pitches up in the zone to Rios & Wells. The Jays were also trying to steal any chance they got.
Not bad for the 20yo rook.
He'll have his ups and down, and the Yankee offense will score a lot for him, but you still have to throw him out there vs the AL East.
