You got to give it up to Joe Bryant (1 Viewer)

I am more like Dodds personally but JB is consistent to an extent and that is uncommon in this world.  I can't put my morals on other people because I know I am flawed and if I was dissected personally I would be a fraud.  Joe not only welcomes that but takes it head on and answers questions.  That is not easy.  I would guess he lives life clean and has no skeletons.  That is a freedom I will never know, so I must admire it.  So whether I agree or disagree with him, you have to respect it.  I love PG but if we are G, so be it.  Let the G stand for growing up, which many of us haven't.  I have been happy to share sand in this sandbox with you all.  And I for one was willing to give up but I looked at it wrong.  I will follow this G path with open arms and who knows, it might be better.  Having said that I understand the critics but give it a shot.  Finally, the most unfair thing I saw was that JB didn't earn his spot on this community.  That is not fair.  "Heavy is the head that wears the crown".  This is very true of any business owner, you are held to higher standards.

Just my 2 cents.

According to BS you two are in cahoots, so this praise doesn't come as a surprise Cav.   :D

I suggested it. Got a very long timeout for it.
I spent a week with him in Vegas, solid guy.  I was the first one at the house after him.  It was all about In & Out burgers.  That was just the first 2 hours I ever spent in Vegas.  He brought gear for us and Alias bathed in the hot tub, good times.

No giving up anything. But I'll be in Detroit June 25-27. If you're up for a Detroit style Pizza, I'll buy.
Smart person to take out to dinner, Joe. One of the quality people on the board and someone I've enjoyed hanging with and even drafting with at times.

I will say that anyone that takes a tempestuous and heated person posting on his boards and takes the time to PM him is worthy of a ton of respect in my book. Joe did that with me, and I appreciate the time and just the kind gesture. I normally wouldn't discuss personal business, but people deserve to know he cares about people here and is willing to reach out. So thanks again, Joe. People ought to know you did that.

He did the same with me. The guy cares about the community/board and although he may look at things differently than some here, he is sincere about it which I respect

Hopefully things go back to normal. I spend way too much time here, somebody shoot me.

Thank you, that’s a very nice offer. I likely won’t be able to take you up on it but if you need any recommendations, let me know.

Detroit has its own "style" pizza?

Never knew that.
Yeah it’s delicious.  Buddy’s is my favorite (awesome salad too) but Shields is very good as well.

Jets (chain) square pizza is also good but not quite as good as those

If anyone else can make it to Detroit, offer is good for you too.
I might be available, will now better as the date gets closer

I refuse to take the bait
Reminds me when a friend asked me to go play basketball with him and some friends like 17 years ago. I said sure. Show up... see the court mess around and got a triple double...then he asks if i want some bagels....hell yea!...we start heading to the building the court was associated with and the pieces of the puzzle start to come together as im lathering cream cheese on my sesame seed bagel and im getting asked if ive accepted the lord jesus christ as my savior.

Joe is simply awesome people.

When my new effort takes off, gonna by me a boat from him to show my gratitude. And I no longer even live close to any water.

@IC FBGCav - thank you for the post. You nailed it. There's not only a consistency, but the ability for him to show caring and humanity and keep an even keel, yet not be Pollyanna.  It's no easy task to moderate a board like this... and it can be a thankless one.

So hotties or notties, thank you @Joe Bryant

Cool. I want to try Buddy's for sure. Thanks for the insight on Shields. I wasn't aware of that one.

It's bigger than Joe - Joe's just an ambassador.

It's about the virus that you let seep into your life - and it breeds there.

From personal experience, many moons ago I decided to stop swearing.  And that has had a profound change on my attitude towards things.  Swearing breeds anger and discord.

Ive started swearing more in life the last decade (all in joking manners) and it has allowed me to realize its ok to be loose. have fun, not be so uptight while still being a decent human being.

What pizza place do you go to when you are in Detroit? We don't get to the city very often, but when we do we go for Pizza Papalis which is Chicago style pizza, but they also make a very good regular pizza. Also I have had Buddy's pizza once and didn't enjoy it.

Um, Joe Bryant is a brilliant man with lots of well thought out, practical ideas.  He is ensuring the financial security of this company for years to come.  Oh yes, and his personal hygiene is above reproach.

So many great dining options in Detroit.  If you need any recommendations let me know

tons of great craft brews too
Sure Imax. Would love to hear your recommended spots. Please list them here as I'm sure others might be interested too. For me - I'm mostly interested this trip for pizza and craft beers. Than other dining options if I have time. Thanks.

You staying in downtown Detroit or one of the suburbs?  Would help me plan a little better.

but as far as Detroit itself Founders now has a Detroit taproom (have not been myself yet) but one of Michigan’s  best

Atwater Brewery and Batch Brewing are both pretty down and dirty, Batch has some limited food, Atwater I think may just be chips.

Jolly Pumpkin is known for their sours and has a Detroit taproom / pizza.

Hopcat is a cool craft beer bar, probably has 100+ rotating taps, lots of Michigan options plus some national ones.  Food is mostly burgers / sandwiches and Crack Fries

motor city brewing also an option, limited food

if you want to venture to Ferndale (couple miles north of the city) I highly reccomend Public House.  Great rotating taps (maybe 20 or so) and some great slider varieties (the Nashville chicken is great as well as the lamb BLT)

Awesome. Thanks. I haven't booked a place yet. Would you recommend downtown or suburbs? I'm mainly interested in what's most convenient for pizza and craft beers.

I’d go for downtown, it’ll cost more, but gives you the ability to walk around and gives you a lot more options

cab service is pretty non existent but you can get Uber everywhere.  There’s also a monorail and new light rail.  For example if you stay in the city center you can catch the rail to midtown (hopcat, jolly pumpkin, motor city all in that area)

not sure if you’d want to stay in a casino but Greektown is a good central location

also Aloft hotel is good too

theres also some chain hotels but off the top of my head im not sure which would be best

The original Buddy’s is in Detroit but more on the outskirts, they may have added a downtown one but you could easily get an Uber or drive to the Dearborn or Farmington one.  There’s a few more too
