Life is so weird. One minute you're just living your life, having your wife film a youtube video of you trying to stop a .50-caliber round fired from a Desert Eagle handgun held only a foot away from you, and using only a book held to your chest as protection.....and the next minute you are gone. life is so random.

The safest way to have handled it would be to have had a tertiary shooter to safely shoot and incapacitate the bullet that shot the dangerous bullet out of the air.

She'll go to jail, he probably coerced her into it.  They should allow her out to have a conjugal visit with his best friend and then piss on his grave.  Idiots

She'd be lucky to only be charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Whoever does either of the following is guilty of unintentional murder in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 40 years:

She might not. She lost the father of her children and will have to look them in the eye one day and tell them what happened to their daddy. A decent lawyer could convince a judge that she has and will suffer enough without a jail term.

This could be a thread all alone:  Is stupid a good enough defense to get away with being part of a crime?  Common sense will tell you that if you shoot someone they may die.  However, in the case of the youtube idoits, she shot her own husband.  Is this punishment enough for killing someone?  It was not an accident but he did ask her to do it so it obviously was not murder.  I am going to go with lethal injection so she cannot taint the gene pool even farther.  

 
I'm guessing it would take more than a half of foot of paper sheets to stop a large caliber pistol round.  Obviously there would be variance depending on whether the round was jacketed or hollow point and the metal composition of the round.  Me, I would not want to take a chance, I would want a foot of paper between me and a hot handgun load, and two between me and most common rifle rounds.  I think I would want about 5 to eight feet for a 50 cal rifle round.

All valid points, except the last one. She still has two children to care for. Some will argue that they would be better off without her, but those children will never see it that way. 

and I'm not saying she will get off. Just that an argument can be made that he coerced her into doing it and she might not have any idea how powerful the gun was and relied on his expertise on the matter.

The last point was supposed to be sarcastic.  I actually hope she can learn from what happened.  At the end of the day this is a very sad story.  

 
For those who don't know what kind of gun is being discussed, this is video of one shooting watermelons.

Here's one of it going through a motorcycle helmet, watermelon, and other side of the motorcycle helmet, as well as through both sides of a refrigerator and three melons.

I don't know why people apparently really like shooting melons.

Yeah. Other than a Taurus Judge or a Magnum .500, I'm not sure there's a better handgun for pure stopping power.  I hope this woman and her kids can somehow move on, but this is a terrible, terrible, avoidable mistake by all involved.

Story goes he did test it on a similar book first. Evidently, the book stopped the bullet and that was all he needed to see to try it on himself. What seems to be missing from the story is (if that part is even true) what was behind the book when he tested it. Safe to say it wasn't a human chest :oldunsure:
