Young sustains hamstring injury while running untouched (1 Viewer)

Is this something specific to football? Has anyone ever had this happen?

Just seems really strange to me. I will admit I've never played organized football.

ETA: In case you didn't see it, Vince just rolls out of the pocket and is running in the flat with nobody around him and suddenly pulls up hard, throws the ball away, and hobbles off the field.

Actually, most hamstring injuries don't involve any contact at all. It is a pretty common injury among professional sprinters - and they are just running in a lane.

Aren't most hamstring injuries sustained while running?
I thought there was usually some contact involved? Maybe I am totally clueless here. Never seen a guy just pull up lame like that. Changing thread title to clarify.
come on :lmao:

Yeah, as has been said, it seems that most hamstring injuries actually do occur when simply running--no contact, just a normal run and then *OW* you pull up short and its a hammy.

Happens all the time at the combine, as well. Guys just pull up and slow down mid-sprint.

I pulled my hammy after not doing any serious sprinting for months I subbed in for someone in a softball game, I hit a slow grounder, beat it out but as I made my last lunge for first, I pulled my hammy for the first time in my life. It sucks. I was really liking Vince's situation. Rest is the key and hopefully Vick can last a while and VY can heal for when it's his time.

OP doesn't get a lot of exercise much, does he?
Actually that's why I was so confused. I did some track & field in HS (hurldes and pole vault). Played lots of touch football and ultimate frisbee in college. I run 15-20 miles a week, even do some occasional sprints. Never had anything like this happen or seen someone do this in person.Apparently I am totally off the map here. I really was surprised when I saw it, apparently I have somehow completely missed this phenomenon. You learn something new every day, I guess.

Wait to you get a little bit older...I'm sure you'll experience it first hand.

You see it happen to baseball players frequently as well when they are running the bases.

Young seems to get several of these injuries every year. Sometimes hammy, sometimes quad. His upper legs are constantly strained and it's never due to contact.

I don't watch baseball, maybe that is my problem.

Its a problem that has plagued McNabb his entire career as well. You can SEE it in his play. Not a limp, mind you. But less than half-way through the season, pretty consistently, he'll pull a hammy, or sustain other non-contact leg injuries from suddenly taking off once in a while. And the reason you can see it is because his accuracy noticeably worsens. Once his legs are messed up, his footwork goes and he just looks terrible. He's much less effective on bootlegs and is no longer a threat to run. Its the only way you can really tell, but if you pay attention to injury news/interviews/etc. he's always got leg injuries that effect his passing.

I realize it was very early last year that Reavis pulled up lame trying to catch up to Moss, but I thought the SP had at least a 365 day memory. I guess that's now down to 351 days...

It was my concern that when he did it, he grabbed at the back of the knee. Once it was narrowed to the hamstring, I became concerned of an avulsion injury since it was so low in the hamstring. Not sure if the Eagles would be inclined to be more specific on the type of hamstring injury at this point.
