Zach Miller (1 Viewer)

So the #2 TE in the league is coming off of a one catch game, was on crutches on Monday and hasn't practiced through Thursday and yet there isn't one thread discussing it and the FBG projections still have him in the top of the TE projections list.

Is everyone just blind, or am I the only one that sees a problem here?

Dude has a painful foot injury in a position that requires at least some speed to produce. Tom Cable keeps saying he'll definitely play, but there is a difference between "playing" and actually putting up some stats (see last week). I currently have him sitting out in favor of Keller. I'll probably keep it that way unless he fully practices today, and even then I may keep him out. A partial or no practice today won't be enough, IMO. Maybe I'm wrong, but the Chiefs aren't exactly a slouch opponent either.

Basically I'm saying if you've got even a decent TE2 option, I'd take it even if Miller is active because I think we have a much better chance of a 0-1 catch game than a quality 5+ catch game.

Yeah not much is being said about this. I have Hernandez ready to start but i'm of course interested in how serious this is and why Cable on Monday was sure that he would play Sunday even though he was walking around on crutches?? Guess it's not too serious but i'm not taking a risk and getting another one catch game out of my TE position.

I traded for Keller this week, giving up Zach Miller because I'm fearful of Miller's injury. With Miller's foot injury and the chance of another dud like last week, then a bye in Week 10, then a matchup at Pittsburgh I don't like his prospects in the near future much at all. You're right, Jayrok, everyone is assuming all is fine which is a huge and unwarranted assumption.

Kinda similar to my own situation with Gates on my team. I have Hernandez as my backup as well, but until I hear for certain that Gates is out for the game, I have no choice but to start him.

But with Gates, even though he's only one slot above Miller, he's about 3 tiers above him in value. You can't sit Gates right now unless he's dead, IMO.But Miller has already proven last week that this injury can shut him down even if he's on the field.

If you have any other options I would sit him until he shows on the field that he can be effective. Obviously, that was not the case last week.

FBG’s are just going by the words that are coming out of Coach Cable’s mouth. But Cable is playing games. He is a known liar, recently admitting that the procedure to Chaz Schilens knee was kinda a big deal, when after the procedure was done in the preseason, he said it was a "minor scope". So don’t believe him. He has no credibility. He is hoping to get the Chiefs to gameplan for Miller, but I doubt he is fooling them.

The heel is very sore, and he hurt in the Denver game but tried to play through the pain. He had one catch and winced through it and came back later and dropped a very catchable pass and was done for the day. He was seen hopping on one foot in the second quarter of last Sunday’s game vs the Seahawks. He’s been seen on crutches, and Cable has deemed them “precautionary”. I could see a walking boot as “precautionary”, but crutches? There is no way he plays this Sunday, imo. Although expect Cable to roll with his GTD bluff till an hour before kickoff. The Raiders bye week is next week, and they need to rest him to be ready for the Steelers in week 11.

If you have a decent backup, insert him now in your lineup. I have Heap in for him.

Yea the injury is bad and campbell isn helping all that much. Im waiting until gradkowski comes back or full practice

Good info here. Put me in the Miller / Hernandez list ...

 Thanks for the info. This is what I thought was likely going on.

Thanks for the info, Raiderfan32904.

TE's are at a premium in my big $$$ league due to the inflated scoring they get, and the fact that we have 2 flex spots. I usually start 3 TEs. So I've been looking for more detail on Zach's injury.

Who's Millers backup and does he have any value for a one week p/u?
I know nothing about the guy but here's what I found:
Oakland Raiders TE Brandon Myers worked with the first team in practice Wednesday, Nov. 3, and would start in Week 9 if TE Zach Miller (foot) can't play, according to Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers.

Brandon Myers is a blocking TE that is a good special teams player. He hasn't been asked to catch many passes, and against the KC defense, expect the Raiders to continue to use him as an extra OL. The key to the Raiders gameplan is to buy Campbell time in the pocket and key the run. Myers is himself just recently cleared from a concussion he incurred 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't rush to add Myers to your fantasy lineups, as you will probably see him primariliy block. If anyone could see more work, it might be Marcel Reese, who had over 100 yards of total offense last game. The Raiders backup TE to Myers is an OL Khalid Barnes, who can actually catch the ball pretty well. But I hope he doesn't have to report for TE duty.

Can't wait for the 18 game regular season to happen. It'll be like scab player teams but without the labor strife.

I have Heap in for Miller as well. I just hope he can make it through weeks 9 & 10 and then ZM is good to go for the rest of the season ...

If he practiced today I would have felt slightly better about it but without practicing you have to start Heap. He could give it a go sunday but then you are risking the same stat line as last week. 1 catch (if that). He'll be back week 11. They would be smart to hold him out.

Agreed. I'm going to put Scheffler back in...

If you have a chance I would nab FB Marcel Reece if you have a flex spot. They utilized him a lot last week.

Reece played WR at Washington at 6-3/240 with a pro day 4.42/40 he's got TE size and is used to catching the ball. Would it make sense for OAK to throw him in at TE?

Good thread... I'm in the same shoes w/ Keller in over Miller. I even have a few offers out hoping other owners are looking at FBG rankings and underplaying the injury.

Reece is going to get some carries as well, right? And he's listed at TE? Interesting...

ETA - only listed @ rb in ESPN. So much for that one.

love it. really cute. after all week having miller high up on their lists in the lineup dominator, all of a sudden, on friday, miller is now suddenly TE19. for all the times FBG really helps, they can really screw you up too.

If you are a Zach Miller owner, you need to know that he may be out beyond the bye week. Here’s an interesting quite from Raider beatwriter Jerry Mac’s Tuesday Chat discussing the issue:

This is just a heads up for fellow Miller owners, I’d have a multi-week TE backup plan in place.

[Comment From Woody Allen]

I saw a report that Zach wasn't on the sideline for the game? Any idea why? Doesn't this usually mean surgery?

Haven't heard surgery, but I think it's a pretty significant injury.

Take a wild guess, Jerry. When do we next see Zach in a game?

It would strictly be a wild guess. I'll take Miami the week after the Pittsburgh game.

And here is a bonus follow up question of the Raider WR's going forward:

[Comment From Jude]

How do you see the WR rotation working out after the bye?

Murphy and DHB with Jacoby Ford getting a lot of reps.

LMAO...but but but Roger will make it all better and fix things that don't need fixing n make it safer...for point scoring positions.

I think the reason we are ignoring his injury (and Mathews too) is because he has a bye week and is riding everyone's bench this week anyways. Expect the news and interest to pick up next week.

Thread was started last week when FBG's had him ranked in the top 5 of TE's early in the week. Basically we were discussing the likelihood that he wouldn't play (which he didn't).

I know I just read that he was feeling better and should be back week 11. I don't have time to go look for it at the moment.

If you could find a link it would be great!

Going forward, would you guys rather have Miller or Shiancoe?

Alright is was from the player news on MFL. I googled the original article and the way Cable words it makes me feel a lot less confident...putting aside the fact that coaches lie.

Anyway, from reading the various bits of news, it sounds like they will be resting him this week and are expecting (hoping?) he returns to practice next week.

Miller if they're both healthy. Shank is a nice fill-in for this week and great insurance policy if you have them both.

As a Miller owner, the news that they are rolling with Campbell is much more distressing then the injury. In spite of the past few wins, Campbell sucks but big Al will want to trot out Campbell to throw the deep ball again after the Ford outing. Better off shelving Miller as his numbers have been down compared to the Gradkowski starts. I hope the Pit Def knocks Campbell out next week...

Exactly what I have done. Based on last week's game, with Moss gone, and the success MIN had in the 4th qtr with Favre-to-Shiancoe connection, Shiancoe may even uptick to last year's performance. However, if he is healthy I would think Miller's playoff schedule would be tough not to go with him vs. JAC / DEN / IND.

I agree that Gradkowski seemed to look to him more on the underneath stuff, but he was doing fine in the more recent games with Campbell until he got hurt. As a Miller owner I would prefer Gradkowski, but I would only shelve a healthy Miller for a handfull of other TEs, especially with the run on injuries at that position (let alone what is on the average WW). NOTE: I play in all TE mandatory leagues. This is a completely different discussion if it's a WR/TE league.
