Zimmer new Bengals DC (1 Viewer)

Doesn't Cincy run a 3-4?
Not as a base defense. Tinkered with it for a very few snaps late last season. Been rumored that Marvin has wanted to change for three offseasons now. We'll see what happens here. Zimmer wasn't the impetus for the switch in Dallas, obviously, but he now has some experience with the 3-4. Pretty sure I don't want a read-and-react, 2-gap 3-4 as a Bengal fan though.

 and a Who Dey. I like this hire :)

Might be getting Hue Jackson back in the mix somewhere (they'd have to add a position for him - assistant HC or something?) since he also is free to flee Falconland.

I'm very stoked about this hire. This guy has experience and credibility, which is something neither of the last two coordinators had when taking the job. I've seen some Bengal fans actually bummed because it isn't Rex Ryan, but I'm not convinced that Ryan would've been a better hire. I think this will turn out to be a good fit. We need to use this year's selection wisely. He has some work to do, but he should have some things to work with. He's taking over a defense that can't get much worse, and who was really hit with injury and misfortune last season. I do like the two first rounders at the corners (Joseph/Hall).

Marvin will finally get a D now
I was never happy with him in Dallas, was glad when he left.
He was never comfortable with the 3-4 Parcells made him run. He's much better with the 4-3. Hopefully for Cincy, that's what they'll run.
 Parcells force fed the 3-4.Zim was also shown the door the following year.
IIRC Zim was there two years under Bill. First he was allowed to do his 4-3. That year or possibly the year before they were the #1 D and Dallas fans loved the guy. As often happens in sport(see above) loved with success, not so fond of you when you're not successful.Edit to clarify-first was 4-3, made playoffs with Quincy but D struggled then and Bill had enough, switched to 3-4 following year.

This is how I remember it, being too lazy to look it up. Zimmer was there for several years before Parcells arrived, running the 4-3 and had high ranked defenses. Parcell's came along, retained Zimmer but forced the 3-4 issue. THe Defensive stats suffered for it, Zimmer was blamed and let go. He went to the Falcons, ran the 4-3 and had good *success with it.*Yes he was successful. At season half, the Falcon D was ranked in the top half of the NFL in every significant category except rushing yards. Then the injuries came.

The dallas defense was successful despite Zimmerman who didnt seem very "aggressive" when calling the defense. They always looked like they were in some sort of a prevent to me.
