What is the best mattress? (1 Viewer)

Bought the BIB (13" Bamboo Queen) about a month ago. I can't remember for sure. It was posted in this thread somewhere but I'm too lazy at the moment to go find it to be exact.

Wife was very skeptical at first. First week was iffy and she was talking about a possible return, but that tune has changed dramatically. Now she raves about it. Best sleep she has ever had during this past week. She didn't notice the "sleeps hot" property at all and when I've commented on it she has no clue what I'm talking about.

Initial impressions were that the bed was very firm. I still think its much more on the firm side that I thought it would be, but that's what I was hoping for. I've had a lot of back issues over the past few years and wanted a firm mattress. Smell was really noticeable for the first few days, but that's completely gone now.

My opinions don't mean much at the moment. I cracked a rib (lower left in the front) just after we bought the bed so I'm not the best person to ask. If you've had this pain before you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. It hurts all the time. Doesn't matter how you try to relax its just a constant ache. FML. That said, my lower back has been dramatically better, but my rib has kept me from being able to sleep much. I'm a roller. I go from my side to my back to my other side a lot. Every toss is a shot of pain in my side. Again, FML. I really noticed the "sleeps hot" during the first two weeks. I had several times I awoke with my back uncomfortably warm. Again, my wife doesn't get it. That said, I've got a lot more surface area than she does. I'll try to remember to chime in here after a few months to report on the temperature issue. It hasn't been an issue of the past two weeks. Not sure if this is a change in the bed or due to a change in temperate in the house. Our fall weather is starting to kick in and temperatures are dropping dramatically at night.

My wife and I purchased a king-size 12" Sleep Innovation mattress from Costco for $50 more than on Amazon; the added price seemed worth it because of an easy in-store return policy. The mattress is great; the first week I must of thought about climbing back into it about 10 times a day. I previously slept on the floor, on a Thermo-Rest camping pad, for 2 plus years because of my back; since we've gotten this about a month ago, my back still feels great. I do not get awakened with my wife or kids getting into or out of the bed. It did not sleep hot but it can be stiff if the mattress is cold, until your body heat "softens" it. I also did not have the "off-gassing" problem but I did go through Costco's stock and picked out recently manufactured mattress (less than a couple of weeks old). The bed is great. I do not know if the 10" would still be as comfortable but it does have more memory foam than the 12". I will probably get more of these but maybe from Amazon now that I am satisfied with the product. I recommend them highly and it is one of our better purchases for our new house. The box is fairly large and probably won't fit in a car but should fit in a SUV with the seats down. The box has wheels, so moving it around is not to difficult. The 12" mattress makes for some nuisance with finding sheets for it but not too bad. I know that the comparison of a camping pad to a mattress isn't a ringing endorsement but I do travel and sleep in many hotel beds, always feeling stiff after a few days of that; no such issue here.

I'm looking at those memory foam mattresses mentioned in this thread. Anyone have any updates about theirs? Also, any recommendations on a bed and boxspring?
We went out intending to buy a memory foam mattress but bought a natural latex mattress because we thought it was more comfortable. We have had it about 3 months and love it.

My BIB did sleep "hot" the first month or so but I guess I'm used to it now. I really, really, like it.
I've had my BIB for several months now and still love it. Never want to get out of bed in the morning. I don't remember it ever sleeping hot.

I bought the Sleep Innovations Novaform Gel 12" mattress from Costco two weeks ago, on the final day of a $399 sale. My back is slightly improved so far, hoping for further improvement.

I just ordered this latex mattress last week. Really looking forward to it.

This thread is confusing. I have scoloisis. I have no pain, but have to side sleep.

Have a standard spring matress pillow top deal we got about 10 years ago.

Want to change, but the sleep number bed gets bad reviews for sexy time. Any first hand comments on this? Considering all options here.

I side sleep and love the latex. I have never slept in a memory foam mattress but I have seen some complaints with sexy time in that it may be kind of hard to move to different positions due to the nature of the memory foam. Obviously they are popular so it must not be an issue. Go out to the bed stores and try them out (not the sexy time part). Almost everyone will let you exchange them - the better return policies are 90 days with no restocking fee - sometimes cash or just credit for another bed they carry (so good if the store has lots of of choices).

There's a link recently in this thread about sexy time on various types of mattresses. Memory foam was reported to be bad for changing positions, but good for getting traction.

Got the BIB 13" Bamboo King a few weeks ago after reading this thread. It's incredible. It does sleep a little hot but not too bad.

Paid around $1500 including some sheets, bed cover, frame and foundation. That's probably half what my wife would have had me spend at a mattress store

You guys are doing it wrong.

I ended up getting the BIB PacBamboo 13" Queen and a solid metal platform bed from Amazon that I've had my eye on. Haven't had a good night sleep in awhile, definitely time to get rid of my 6-year-old bottom-of-the-barrel $300-for-both-mattress-and-boxspring slab of awful I've been stuck on since grad school. Thanks y'all for the reviews.

I just assembled this today - google Modloft King:

http://www.esleepmasters.com/v/vspfiles/photos/MDL-HB39A-K-WAL-WHT-2T.jpg

to use with the Sleep Innovations 12-inch Sure Temp Memory Foam Mattress

Tonight is the first night I will sleep in it, been waiting for this night for about 6 weeks.
haha you and I aren't in the same ballpark when it comes to budget on this one. i'm getting this: metal frame . i don't like squeaky wood, and this is the only metal platform i can afford that isn't just a flimsy frame.

Yeah it was pricey, and I had to wait a helluva long time for delivery. I think if you buy stuff off of Amazon (Amazon redirected me to a 3rd party website to place my order) you end up rolling the dice with how long it will take to get delivered. Also not an easy job for 1 person to put together the pieces weighed quite a bit.

You bed in a box guys are overpaying.

Amazon is trying to build the category and is actually selling my company's product at a loss.

Look at the reviews; they speak for themselves.

Amazon 12" Memory Foam Mattress

Just comes with the mattress though. My wife and I just threw ours on our old boxspring and do not notice any lack of support. Binky bought one of our memory gel foam offerings at Costco upon my recommendation. Bink, are you happy with it?
So, I am close to pulling the trigger on one of these. I have a couple questions:1. What is the big difference between the 10" and 12"?

2. Anybody have any experience with the bed sheets on amazon.com? Recommendations?

3. For those that bought this previously, still happy?

Thanks.

Same question here. Was looking to order either the 10 or 12 today and just throw on the box spring/bed fram I already have. Which is better?

I was wondering the same thing about a month ago. I pm'd Dawgpound but never got a response. I emailed Sleep Innovations directly and the response I got is that the 10" is a bit softer due to having the thicker top foam layer. So the way it was presented to me via email is that if you want a slightly softer feel, get the 10", if you want the firmness, get the 12".

Sorry guys, coyote in particular, for the lack of response. I've been out of control busy with work and Six Sigma coursework.

May I ask who you emailed with? First name only. She's right to a degree, it depends on the foam build. The base foam provides your firmness, it depends on the thickness of the memory foam.

Amazon and Overstock have some awesome prices right now for our stuff. We have a Serta mattress and a Bodipedic brand at Overstock.

BTW, my wife and I have been sleeping on the gel one we sell at Costco for a year. It's holding up wonderfully and still feels like new. Would never go back to a spring!

lots of reviews say it is too firm. I hate firm mattresses and would not try this one if I thought there was even a small chance of firmness in any model.will try out a pacbamboo cali king first. If that sucks for some reason I'll consider other options.

The gelfoam model from Costco is a firm mother, indeed. I like that.

My back still hurts, but it's not the bed.

Just pulled the trigger on the Sleep Innovations 12" memory foam mattress. Will place on existing queen box spring for now, but our existing 15+yr old mattress had to go! What size sheets is everyone using on these....or for those who got the 12" model. Does a normal queen fitten cover and sheet set work good on these?

Holy Crap! I love Amazon Prime! I did not pay for the next day shipping, and the 2-day put it here on Monday.

we did the bed-in-a-box a couple of weeks ago...not all that excited about it. I'm fine with it, my wife is being picky. I think she never really trusted an internet order mattress to start with so it's an uphill battle from the start. We got the silk version, thinking it would be the softest and coolest. If it didn't work out, I wanted to be sure we had tried the best that bed-in-a-box had to offer.it is much firmer than I had expected. Not plush at all. My wife has back issues, and she doesn't think that the bed is as great as we were hoping for. She doesn't feel that the memory foam is cushioning enough to give her back support like the tempur-pedics in the show room did.If we aren't both enthralled with the mattress after the 60 days, I think we will be testing out the return policy.
Called BIAB today to begin the refund process...relatively painless, no questions asked. All I need to do is donate the mattress to a non-profit and send them the receipt. We are about a week shy of 120 day trial period.Bed feels fine to me, but my wife continues to have back pain. having difficulty getting past the firmness issue - bed simply does not seem to provide the cushiony support she thinks she needs, so the search continues. I think we will be going with the more expensive tempurpedic.

You might want to check out a latex bed also.

Not a problem. Her name was Takiya. So are you saying that if I'm looking for a more semi-firm instead of firm feel that the 10" is the way to go? Is there any other down side to the 10" vs the 12" to consider?

Ok. She is new to the company. Basically whatever site you go to should give you the foam breakdown. The majority of the foam is going to be base foam, and there will either be another layer or two. Some mattresses have a convolute layer, like an egg crate, that promotes breathing in the mattress for coolness. But the top layer is going to be memory foam, so if you have a 10" with 7" of base foam and 3" of memory foam, it will be softer than a 12" mattress with 10" of base foam and 2" memory foam. It's all about the memory foam thickness. Good luck man. If you have any other questions, I promise I'll answer your PM. :bag:

Guys keep in mind too that if you buy the Sleep Innovations or Bed in a Box mattress, you can always soften a firm mattress with a down or memory foam topper, but you can't really firm up a too soft mattress.

I know it's a crapshoot spending all this money on a mattress you can't try out, just pick a site like Costco or Amazon that has a hassle free return policy.

I love my company though and have full confidence in our products.

I got my mattress set up on Friday, and I dont know why I didn't buy one sooner. VERY comfortable. Not firm as concrete, but you wont feel like you are in quicksand either. Did not want to get out of bed the past few morning!

LOL, good stuff. For what it's worth, the non-sleeping activities on the memory foam are awesome.

Hey guys, hate to see this thread get buried so deep. Just wondering if everyone could post a comment about how well their bed is holding up? Even if you have had it for 2 years, still report the condition it is in.

I am bouncing between the Sleep Innovations, the Lucid by LinenSpa, and the Bed In a Box. Granted the first two are a heck of a lot cheaper by almost half for King size.

Thanks guys
