Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (11 Viewers)

Amazon just announced Luna not long ago, their response to Gamepass. They see what’s going on and want to get in on it too.
Yeah, I think Luna could be interesting. They can afford to bait the hook since Prime members are already subscribers. I thought they might have a free introductory period for people to try but maybe they are afraid it will get overwhelmed.

Steam is also trying something similar with "Cloud Play". Steam has treated me so well for so long if I was rooting for a dog in this fight I'd probably support them with a subscription service before the others if the prices were anywhere near close. Not sure if it is still in beta or not.

I've also heard of "Shadow" but don't know much about it. Unfortunately my internet isn't all that great at the moment but that could be changing in the next few months so I may try one of these types of services soon.

Yeah, I got a thing from Amazon for an early invite to Luna but it was still like $6 a month even at early invite prices. If I didn't already have Gamepass I would probably try it, but that's not enough to entice me. It is interesting they have partnered with Ubisoft but supposedly it is a "channel" so sounds like extra $ to get it.

I think Google has a cloud gaming service called Stadia that's been out for a little while too.

I just got an e-mail today saying that Sony is revamping the PS store and will be discontinuing the Wishlist feature, that seems like a pretty standard feature for any type of online store.  Am I the only one that really uses it?  Granted Sony's implementation of it SUCKS compared to steam when I get e-mails anytime something on my Wishlist goes on sale, but it's still really useful when I want to log in and just glance across some games I've been looking at getting.  So many damn games out there I often forget stuff I've was looking at and wanting to consider.

Super Giant, creators of Bastion and other great games, has done it again with Hades. Very engrossing roguelike action dungeon crawler. Anyone else playing?

Dropping in to see what game people are talking about these days.  Looks like I haven't been here in close to 6 months.  Hope everyone is doing ok.

Believe it or not, I've been busy playing Fallout 76 since the launch of Wastelanders.  It's better than it was, but it's far from the perfect Fallout game.  I'm to the point that I'm getting burned out and I'm starting to look for something new to play.  I miss playing Rocket League, but no one I used to play with is available when I have time to play.  Drop your new game suggestions below.  I have both PC and Xbox.

I went back to Elder Scrolls Online, and it's all I've been playing for the last 7 months. I had scratched the surface a few years back, but took a deep dive in once the lockdowns started, and have really enjoyed it. Played a magicka sorcerer for 6 months, and now recently made a nightblade thief/assassin. Very different play styles, but both really fun.

I play it like a single player game - don't really interact with anyone unless it's to help out in a big fight. I also paid for "ESO-Plus" for a year - if you're going to get into this game, it's almost a must. It's like $15 a month (cheaper for a year), but considering it's all I've played, and I'm usually a "new $40-$60 game every other month" guy, it works out fine.

Just DL'd Star Wars Squadrons. A little clunky, looks beautiful, and the soundtrack is good.

Grammy & Grampy are bringing my kids (Me) an Xbox X for Xmas.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of launch games. Cod. I thought Halo 6, Lego Skywalker saga. Nope.

Gonna get them Avengers, CoD (for me) and something else. Oh, Mortal Kombat 11.

We have 3 X1's so everything should transfer. Just bummed the library is short.

You can say that again.
I dunno, how many folks that buy a game system already have an Alexa and/or phone and/or tablet listening to them? I am all for security/privacy but it all hinges on the weakest link in the chain and most modern houses already have some weak links. Not defending Sony here but the privacy war might already be all but over.

The thing with the Alexa is that you didn't have a clause saying you consent to someone else recording your voice for whatever reason. And it wouldn't be admissable in a court. Sony is putting it out there that just by using online play, you are agreeing to having your voice recorder and anything you say can be used against you.

It was my understanding that if apple was presented with a legal warrant they absolutely would turn over user data to the authorities that presumably could be used against the user. They wouldn't give authorities a backdoor to encryption or direct access to their servers, but they would share data of a specific user if compelled by a warrant.

I think most other tech companies deal with "private" data in much the same way be it Amazon, Google, or Sony.

If Sony wants to listen to me screaming at my TV after Lara Croft falls off yet another ledge, that's their own time they are wasting.

What Sony is saying is that if start being abusive to other players during online play, those players can record that abuse and send it to Sony’s moderators to punish you for it.

They aren’t going to record everything you say whenever you play, and certainly not when you’re not playing online with others. And they are saying that they’re only going to listen to it if someone sends it to them to listen to.

I can’t think of another company that lies more than Sony.

And not to be foil hat guy or the slippery slope guy but.....

You guys know we can have all these things without all the lack of privacy right? Like, we don’t have to agree to let everyone record everything just because you don’t think it’s a big deal.

Stop helping this #### happen man.

I would actually be more worried about Sony leaking my information out of pure incompetence than I would they will use it in some nefarious way. That goes for too many big tech companies as well.

Until we can hold the big credit check agencies accountable for leaking our information the idea Sony is recording me seems pretty low on the things I am worried about. It just seems to me this is like worrying about a stack of old newspapers in the garage being a potential fire hazard while the rest of the house is already on fire. If you want to hate Sony that's fine with me but do it because of the data security breach they are already guilty of rather than the plot of a future episode of "CSI: Gamer".

All this stuff pretty much is opt out, right? Isn't this how you stop helping this #### happen? I can play games offline if I choose. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to buy a house or even rent an apartment without trusting your information with the credit check agencies.

Howdy Howdy!

What did the Wastelanders add to the game? I love me some fallout but didn't enjoy Fallout 76 originally. I saw it went to gamepass so....

Most liekly people haven't noticed the game, but Drake Hollow (really ####ty name imo) is a really solid small game to burn time on from Gamepass. Great 4 person multiplayer as well. After the tutorial everyone can move to one person's island and literally do all quests, buildings, just about everything that the host person can do including moving along the main quest line, which my best friends girlfriend did 5 seconds after joining our mid stage game as we were all trying to clear the 2nd map (total of four seasons)...

Her: What's this Shiny thought bubble!

Everyone in the game: Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Her: Click, why is everyone screaming....

Us:  :lmao: Mainly due to manual save system with auto saves as well.

What Sony wants to do is not much different than what happens when you post on this board, and you have no problem doing that. Everything you post here is saved to a server. And if someone reports it as violating standards, the mods can review it and punish you for it. You can’t even delete your posts, only hide them from public view. The mods can still access them.

Sony only wants you to know that anything you say while playing in an online channel can be recorded and other users can report you if you violate standards.  There are certain states where it is illegal to record someone’s conversation without their consent, so that’s why they are making it part of your agreement to play online.

They are only recording what you put out where others can hear you and only if someone reports your behavior as a violation of the standards.

They want to stop online abuse. To do that, they need to be able to enforce their rules. This is how they are going to do that.

Damn quiet in here.

Here's a pretty frightening article.

Sony can now record voice chat for "Moderation Purposes"
Not frightening at all, and long over due.  I don't really see this as much of a privacy issue.  Sony isn't recording anything, they're giving the players the ability to record other players and submit that to Sony for review.   I'm pretty sure the guy in here complaining the most wouldn't even be effected with the games he plays.

Hopefully there's some actual consequences for the toxic lil turds that deservingly get reported.

Uh huh. If they're not recording you why do you have to consent to being recorded just to play? Just talking to your friends, you have to consent that the chat is being recorded. Why can't you opt out? At least other platforms record you illegally without your consent (as I'm sure Sony has done till now) without forcing you to legally give up your right to privacy.  They just made it so you gave consent and absolved them of using your voice for whatever they want in the name of "safety."

There are much better ways to do that than blanketly recording ALL of your users voice chats. And yes, they will be recording them. This is Sony. The company who since moving to California has been inexplicably censoring games that even Nintendo doesn't find offensive. This is a very unprecedented move to actually try to legalize recording private voice chat.

Because certain states have laws where all parties have to be notified if they're being recorded.  That's why you can't opt out.

If you assume Sony has always been recording you and they're just telling you now, why even care?

And yes, a few updates ago there was one where you could text in a voice chat party, and it kept a whole voice to text chat log that you could check if you just popped into a room.

"Frightening" 🙄

Clearly can't have a reasonable conversation about this with you.  Enjoy your fear.

He did nothing wrong. Looks like it’s you who is incapable.

How about we don’t record everything. Why is that such an insane idea?

You're in the same irrational boat as Insein.

We're talking about a feature that allows other users to record clips of other players and report it for moderation, and you two keep hollaring, "DON'T RECORD EVERYTHING WE SAY, SONY!!!!"

How do you have a rational discussion w that?

Hell, according to you two Sony is already recording everything you say now.  You're just mad you have to consent to it now?

What did the Wastelanders add to the game? I love me some fallout but didn't enjoy Fallout 76 originally. I saw it went to gamepass so....
It added NPCs, factions and a ton of new content.  They have a new season pass type system to unlock things by just completing simple tasks.   The story is starting to feel like a Fallout game.  By end of year, the BoS are arriving in Appalachia to add even more, so I'm looking forward to that.  It's definitely worth checking out with Game Pass.  Worst case, you still don't like it and that's ok too.

Could you fill me in on this one?  I feel like I have a pretty handle on the video game industry but I'm not sure what you're referring to here.

On the topic of voice recording and moderation, this doesn't pertain to me because I'm a solo gamer who rarely plays competitive multiplayer games and never uses a mic.  Philosophically I have no objection at all to a company choosing to moderate public chat, but I agree with you that it seems weird and kind of creepy to extend that moderation to private chat.  I understand that in principle PMs are subject to moderation here too, but I would hope people are not being banned for circumventing the language filter in PMs between friends.

Sony has been attacking Japanese anime games and some main titles from Capcom forcing the characters to be covered up (with a white fog or lense flare) despite wearing bikinis where as the same titles on PC, Nintendo and Xbox are shown uncensored. Then you get sony exclusive titles like Last of Us 2 shipping with full on sex scenes.

The industry is in a weird state right now where Sony is trying to become the puritanical right of the 80's for some reason (except for their own titles).

Would it be HILARIOUS if I could get every single 13 year old that calls me a gay or racial slur when I kill them in Warzone (which I'd say happens about once a week) banned because its recorded? Yup.

Do I like the idea of someone legally recording EVERYTHING (and that is what will happen) I say just to make that happen? Nah, not really.

So Insein and I simply don’t think it’s necessary to record everything we say and  we don’t like it.

So without calling us irrational or saying something smarmy, please tell me how recording everything people say is a rational viewpoint and suggesting that we don’t allow companies to record our private conversation is “irrational”?

Sony isn't recording you, let alone EVERYTHING you say.  That's why I'm calling you irrational.    This has nothing to do with "private" conversations.  That's irrational.  If you care so much about this but still carry a mobile phone with you wherever you go (or have Alexa in your home), that's irrational.

Again, this is a tool for players to report other players to Sony for moderation.  So, until you respond without using the word "EVERYTHING"  you're being an irrational fear monger.

Thanks for posting. I was one of those that did the pre-release beta by preordering the game and was really disappointed in the final released copy. Maybe only sunk a few hours into it after it went live due to the issues vs 100’s of hours in the other Fallouts. If I can ever find some free time to play I’ll try it out again.

Guys I guarantee we all own multiple things that record or track us and the chances of it negatively affecting you are so slim it is not worth the outrage.

Just enjoy your video games.

Man this thread got weird. If I'm on a mic and say something bannable, ban me. I never thought my nintendo switch might be recording me while playing Mario kart naked in bed

Looks like devil may cry meets Diablo. What am I missing?
Hades is a roguelite (Binding of Isaac) isometric dungeon crawler (Diablo) with Greek mythology trimmings, if boiling it down to its very core. But it's also a Super Giant game - creators of Bastion, Transistor, Pyre - so the production quality is crazy high. The look is slick, the controls feel good, and there are over 20,000 voice acted lines in the game.

If you're a fan of Super Giant (or a fan of any of the three qualifiers I listed in the first sentence) I would find it hard not to be high on this. Game is very difficult too, so it feels great when you get a clear.
