Orange is the New Black

I've struck gold. This Netflix original series about a woman's true life experience in prison is funny and well made.

Highly recommended.
Couldn't finish the first episode. Almost cut it off when American Pie called his old lady 'Pipes'...oof

I enjoyed the Fall. Very anxious for the 2nd season.
I don't typically like British shows for whatever reason, but the fall is really good so far. Just started episode 5
I'll check this out based on all the recommendation here. It appears its only a 5 episode season one though, correct?
Yep and they are making 5 more January 2014
Another thumbs up for The Fall.

I've only seen the 1st episode but it was pretty solid.

Check out Wallander

In a picturesque and once-peaceful province of southern Sweden, disillusioned police inspector Kurt Wallander probes a shocking spate of baffling murders whose victims include a cab driver, an elderly couple and a bird watcher.

Foodmatters - a documentary that gets behind the mantra you are what you eat in relation to the plethora of chronic diseases facing our society. Interviews many folks who espouse nutritional therapy as a way to cleanse toxins out of our systems and how the American health care system is purely profit driven and focuses on treating symptoms of disease, rather unsuccessfully.

Agreed, although it kinda sucks having to wait for the next season.

After two episodes and really enjoying it, I check for to see how many episodes left.... :hot:

Mentioned before, but Orange is the New Black. Just finished season 1, excellent show.

Taylor Schilling topless a few times is enough to watch it. She is too f'in cute.

Thing that worries me about this series is that the preview had a look of "lady prisoners who are tough on the outside but actually have hearts of gold".

Seconded. Based on a series of books by Swedish author Henning Mankell.

I wouldn't say that's true. Some people might call it that, but that's just what happens when you get to know each character more and more.

Not a lot of shows (any?) take these kinds of female and transgender characters and fully flesh them out in this way.

They don't all have a "heart of gold". They are people. They've made some mistakes and done some very bad things, but most aren't inherently bad (or good).

One is probably inherently dumb and evil, and I suspect you won't appreciate the way they developed her character (admittedly, it's a weak spot of the show).

It's worth checking out. I think they've got a great group of characters and explore them well.

Exactly what I was thinking when I watched the trailer the other day. Even with pollardsvision comments, I don't think it's something I'd enjoy.

The Fall is definitely on the list though, after I finish Sherlock.

Just watched the first episode...Loved it! Don't piss off Captain Janeway.

Can you guys explain why you like this series so much? Maybe I'm just having a hard time understanding the story cuz of the accents.

I've been watching the "Classic Album" documentaries lately. I like how the band and/or producer play with the mix and talk about how the pieces came together. Nirvana's Nevermind was the best one so far...some really good story about how the band's history, their song writing process, and the producer really breaks down the songs beautifully.
Where is the Nirvana one? Can't seem to find it when I search for Classic Album.

edit: lots of others come back.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I find it to be very well acted, and it just strikes kind of a creepy chord with me. Getting to see the actual serial killer all throughout the show and his sick little rituals, trophies, and how he goes about his life trying to keep it all a secret is fascinating. I actually don't care for the other storyline, with the coked up hookers and everything, at all. I think its forced and doesn't fit with the feel of the rest of the series, but I'm only on episode 4 or so.

Yeah, the Monroe (son) plot doesn't really fit in with anything other than the cops being in the same department.

The acting is fine and I kinda like its unusual ending, but other than that I find the series unremarkable.

Any comparison with Dexter?

A bit. Even a bit of a physical resemblance. But he's no anti-hero. Very clearly a villain.

The Intouchables is a nice movie. I'm not sure it's worthy of the 4 stars it's getting but it's light and funny in spots. I didn't mind the Frech at all.

Branded - Russian Movie from 2012. What a horrible piece of crap.

Bad Acting, horrible writing and editing and special effects that "Sharknado" would laugh at.

 Two hours of my life I will never get back

So, this show "Top of the Lake"....solid so far, but I wasn't aware that New Zealand was pretty much like Juarez.

12 year old girl is pregnant, almost certainly molested, then goes missing and nobody seems to give a ####?

Soldiers of Fortune

Despite a very good cast, stay away. Far away. Don't know how or why that collection of actors got tricked into a movie like that.

2/5.

Finished "Top of the Lake". Great show and certainly worth watching. The scenery was incredibly beautiful. Though, it did drag at times.

The twist at the end was fairly easy to see coming, but well done
I started watching "The Fall". A little slow at times, but interesting to watch. Wow, has Gillian Anderson aged well.

i really liked The Intouchables.

and i would have sworn that it starred Dustin Hoffman. So much so that when there was a different name in the credits, i wondered if he had adopted a pseudonym for this French film.

Looks a lot him. And the black guys is like a tall Taye Diggs.

Did anyone watch Red White & Blue? What did you think?
Watched this last night. I think this one will stick with me awhile. Interesting indie film that could never get made in Hollywood as-is.

Recommend to watch it without reading anything about it. We went in knowing nothing other than the Austin location and the high Rotten Tomatoes score.

Have watched so many good movies and tv series from recommendations here. Would like to get opinions on the tv show Jericho from those that have watched the entire series. Great, good, worth watching, poor, or awful?

I just finished watching the documentary Dear Zachary. Thanks for another good recommendation. It angered me, broke my heart, and then inspired me. 9/10

I watched it when it was actually on the teevee. I remember really liking the first season and bailing during the 2nd.

Good, worth watching, but not a top 10 show or anything.

I havent seen it, but it typically seems to get good reviews. Plus theres only 29 episodes (less time each episode too when you consider it was network TV) so its not like it would be a huge commitment.

Good premise, starts out very strong but then begins a slow decline (even in season 1), they decided to pull the plug early in season and it just becomes rushed and pretty forgettable.

First part(8 episodes) of season 5 of Breaking Bad is on instant now. Also the Bond movies are back on with 20 titles. Titanic, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and Zodiac among others just started up.

Also, the final season of Fringe in now streaming

Has anyone gotten the new profiles feature to work? It says you can create them on PS3 and PC right now, which I did, and then access them when you log in on PS3, X360, PC, iPad, IPhone and other devices. But when I turn on netflix. The prompt that should appear to choose profiles doesnt happen. I can adjust the different ques online but can't access them. I guess it's a new feature so their will be bugs.
