How come most managers are fat slobs? (1 Viewer)

And why do we have to see them wearing uniforms???

Joe Maddon is getting fat. Joe Torre has gotten really fat.

Lou Piniella ... Ron Gardenhire ... Bobby Cox ... Charlie Manuel = blimps.

Don't even get me started on Mike Scioscia. He's about four times the size he was during his playing days!

Is Joe Girardi the only manager still in fighting shape?

because most of them are over 60 and their bodies were run down by playing. exercise probably isn't as easy for them anymore.

True. Not to mention they spend half of their time eating out in restaurants or snacking on massive pre- and post-game spreads in the clubhouse.

They eat at weird times because of their schedule. They probably don't work out regularly. And in their playing days their body probably burned calories like crazy. Not to mention, being fat in baseball isn't quite the same taboo as it is in some other sports.
Exactly. Unless you are pitching or catching or playing 2nd/SS during a perfect game, I doubt any of these guys are even winded after 9 innings.

noone is winded after a baseball game unless they ran a long way on the game-ending play.

Spoken by a couple of guys that have obviously never thrown 100+ pitches in 95 degree heat. Get a clue.

you are right i have never done that. you are not winded - you are not short of breath. you may be tired, exhausted, etc., but i seriously doubt you are out of breath.

After the fact, yes: you are exhausted, sore, swollen, and can't lift your arm above your shoulder for the next 24 hrs. If you think you don't get "winded" during the act, you're mistaken. It's like taking a nice, long run in a wool suit.
