Yes.  He is anxious.  I think he is really unsure until he has the book in his hands.

He was anxious about even being put in this class in the first place.  Wife and I sold it to him, about a great opportunity of being more challenged, etc.
I tell my kids I want them to fail, because when we fail we learn from our mistakes and realize hey it's not so bad, I'm still here, let's try again.

Not sure if that will help your kids anxiety but helped mine. I also told them grades don't mean #### to me, but the process of continual learning and curiosity is the most important trait I'd like them to develop for their whole life, not just school.

I am checking on it with the appropriate folks and expect they'll try to correct it to make me happy, though I don't know for sure yet.  It's amazing that no one mentioned this was coming since it is a compensation matter.  I don't check that email because, until now, nothing has ever come there other than notification of the system being down and such.  Anything important or compensation-related has always been sent to my work email (which is different from the employer-provided one) and/or my personal gmail and there was always a phone call, too.  Nevertheless, I shouldn't have gone without checking for so long and now know to look at it at least once a month. :(
Can't you set a rule to auto forward everything?

This is one of the weirdest double secret compensation stories gone bad I have ever heard.

Based on my past HR experiences, this will be difficult to correct.  Executive management will need to re-issue something to you as a one off - that's tough going.

Sorry Krista - hoping for the best.

I used to run the MSIP programs for other companies, on the legal side, so I'm well aware of how it goes. :(   I think they'll do something to accommodate, though, as they're always scared of losing me.  Either up my grant next year (which will still put me behind a year in vesting), or they might do interim grants - I know in my last job we did them quarterly to cover new hires.  We'll see.  It's my fault, so I can't be upset with whatever they might do.

As for email, it's sort of as Floppo said.  I'm paid by Company X, which is the "employer" I mentioned and the email I don't check (though will now), but I am full-time seconded into another company for which I do my work, which is the "work" email that I use.  Plus I have my personal gmail.  Plus Floppo's porn email.

Apparently in October I was awarded some equity in my employer, but I only found this out when I checked my employer-issued email this week for the first time in over a year.  As a result, the equity award agreement didn't get signed and the whole thing went away.

I don't know what the lesson is here.  I guess that I should check that email more often, which is not a life lesson for any of the rest of you.  Sorry.  Just venting.
Sorry to hear that your next home purchase will have to be postponed a month.

Hey Flob,

It’s been too long!  We are selling the Antone Ranch.  I thought you would enjoy the video link below and the attachment.  I’d like to see you buy it, but if you choose not to, please feel free to forward as appropriate.  As we have gone through the listing process and showing the ranch, I have been told numerous time that it’s one of the best recreational properties in the West!  I think it is….

Call me with any questions.  Hope to catch up in person this fall.

My Best,

Flim

The Antone Ranch, located 100 miles east of Bend, Oregon is a legacy recreational ranch consisting of approximately 36,663+/- deeded acres in a large private block with exceptional water resources, including live water creeks, numerous fishing lakes and irrigated lands. With the Spanish Peak as its backdrop, the topography ranges from timber covered slopes, grassy hillsides, steep canyons and large irrigated meadows. The ranch has an elevation range of 6000 feet down to 2600 feet with over 10 miles bordering the Ochoco National Forest allowing for diverse wildlife habit. The pristine mountain 85+/- acre Rock Creek Lake provides unique recreational opportunities ranging from water-skiing to trophy trout fishing. The 14 miles of Rock Creek ribboning through the ranch and multiple lakes boast excellent fishing opportunities. Improvements include multiple homes, shop facilities, paved runway designed for business class jets and multiple building sites. The ranch supports a year round Angus based cow herd of over 665 mature animals, working recreational horse herd, alfalfa grass hay operation, and an extensive pine forest of 10,846+/- acres.

Antone Ranch has it all and provides a rich resource for economic and recreational activities together with conservation potential and historical significance seldom found, thereby making it the greatest legacy ranch opportunity in the West.

I'm going to use NYC real estate logic for this....

500sf studio apartments start at 1.2mil @ $2,400 per sf.

there are 36,663 sf per acre.

I think I'm going to be pretty close here...

the property is listed at $1,597,040,280 +/-

I guessed $36 million based on $100 an acre. Turns out my mental math was only off by a factor of 10. :bag:

$2,000 an acre for mostly undeveloped wilderness in the absolute middle of nowhere is INSANITY. Even if it is gorgeous, which it surely is.
"insanity" which means crazy eddie type discount prices?

couldn't find a price. also says it sold.

I have no idea what that is worth, but I'd assume it's $30MM+.

EDIT: yeah, $75MM seems reasonable I guess
Sold in 2005, in the halcyon days of his Fund of Funds.  When I started as the 5th employee, it as a $250 Million dollar fund.  After I left, it ballooned to over $4 Billion and he got the firm a private jet.  That's when the ranch followed.  Shoulda  maybe stayed with him, though now I'd be out of a job....all because he didn't have a 'guy' to tell him NOT to use backpages for hooker love.

Oh, I was a bit blown away by not only the price but the fact that he thought my boss would be remotely interested.  Need cobalt to go up to $1,000/LB to even consider a down payment on that thing.

Is this former boss the weirdo short-seller guy who you worked for when we first met. Or another odd-ball in between?

and he is the guy on that youtube video who chose the place because it had a lake for water skiing?

(eta: is that crazy christian meth-head sitting next to him, one of those back-pages finds- or did his wife stick with him through thick and yuck)

that place is pretty unbelievable though- huge, beautiful, varied... if I had an extra $74,999,900 laying around, I'd definitely buy it.

Hey guys, can you forward a copy of that listing to my personal. Note, that is NOT the same as my home email or my family email. Thanks!

Also, sorry you missed that krista. That sucks. I would definitely just set it up to forward to my other email address.

Hey you guys.  It's been real cool knowing everyone.  I just wanted to make sure I said that now that I found out that late last week Facebook's AI had to be shut down because they were losing control of it and it invented its own language.
