Lehigh98 is the home side in this matchup.  The game will be played at Camp Nou in Barcelona.  Lehigh98's side is managed by the legendary Dutch manager, Rinus Michels, the supposed inventor of "Total Football" and architect of the Ajax teams that won three straight European Cups in the early 70s and the Dutch National Side that captivated the world in the 1974 World Cup before falling to West Germany in the final.  Michels would go on to coach with some success at Barcelona and later in the United States in the NASL with the Los Angeles Aztecs.

The "Total Football" style relies upon a free-roaming CF (here, Kenny Dailglish in the Johan Cruyff role) and hard charging wingers with license to themselves occupy the space vacated by the center forward.  Lehigh98 employs Brazilians Garrincha and Rivaldo in these wing roles.  Garrincha, who some place above even Pele as Brazil's greatest ever player is widely considered the greatest right winger of all time.  Rivaldo both in European club football and as part the "R,R,R" trio with Ronaldo and Ronaldinho was one of the most dynamic attackers in the period around the turn of the Millenium.

Lehigh98's 4-3-3 formation will employ two attacking midfielders who will probe the spaces left vacant by the dynamic runs of his front three.  Gheorge Hagi, "the Maradona of the Carpathians" is famous as one of the signature player in the 1994 World Cup in the United States and for a long, prolific club career in Europe, and particularly in Turkey where he almost as revered as he is in his native Romania.  Enzo Francescoli, "El Principe" is a Uruguayan attacking-midfielder most renowned as the anchor of his national team through the 80s and 90s and for two highly productive stints with River Plate in Argentina.

In the holding midfield role, Lehigh 98 will employ Gunther Netzer, a German central midfielder who is widely regarded as one of the greatest passers in the history of the game.  Netzer's impeccable distribution skills will serve the team well.

On the back line, Lehigh98 boasts Carlos Alberto, the captain of the legendary 1970 World Cup Champion Brazilian side.  On the left, Lehigh98 employs Paul Breitner, who scored a memorable goal in the 1974 World Cup Final.  Breitner was renowned as left back for ranging far from his normal position, often popping up in central midfield (where he played for much of the latter part of his career).  Breitner offers unpredictability to an attack that already relies on fluid interchange of positions.   At centerback, Lehigh starts Bobby Moore, captain of England's 1966 World Cup winning team and widely considered one of the finest defenders of all time.  Partnering Moore is one of the most highly regarded centerbacks in the world today, Germany and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

Finally, in goal, Lehigh starts the legendary Dino Zoff, who capped a long, brilliant career in Serie A by being named the best GK in the 1982 World Cup that he won with Italy at the age of 40.

Hey wait a second, I have Rivaldo

sorry just caught up.

Lehigh's entire starting midfield is going to look at each other, saying in multiple languages "would some one please win me the damn ball, so I can dazzle".

I think Native lacks width, which hurts his cause slightly.

but tbh, #### rivaldo.
Not sure that people appreciate how special Leo Junior was. He is best known as Brazil's Left Back for the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, and was named as part of the Tournament's FIFA XI. After winning four chamlpionships with Flamengo in Brazil, he moved to Torino in 1984 at the age of 30, and was promptly named Serie A Player of the year, ahead of the likes of Maradona, Platini, Scirea, Rummenigge, Baresi  and numerous others. He was deadly from long range and a weapon passing from the flank. He was part of Pele's top 100 of all time for a reason!

Now my RB - Bergomi - is much more of a defensive wide-man and less of an attacker. And thats ok IMO. Its fairly common (even among the most attack minded squads) to balance your fullbacks offensive and defensive tendencies. That said, If I need more width from the right flank, I can always replace Begomi with Jose Leandro Andrade. He was speed personified.

Native gets the chance creation, and finishing bonus.

Native also barely gets the defensive bonus, but does incur the counter-attack penalty.

No player gets the offensive substitution bonus, Native gets the defensive substitution bonus.

Voting Closed. 23 Votes Counted.
Thats not a terrible number of votes. Gator and WCDROB only got 26, and they are the equivalent of Brazil-Holland opening the World Cup at the Macarena. Lehigh and I are more like South Korea-Saudi Arabia in that desolate stadium in the Amazon.

To reiterate:  the game is divided into 6 phases (think of it as 0-15mins, 15-30 mins, 30 mins-HT, HT-60 min, 60 mins-75 mins, and 75 mins-FT).  For each phase, each team rolls against the following chart:

Rivelino (aka Rivaldo)

This may be the most bizarre start to a game in history.  The referee has sent Rivaldo off for impersonating Rivelino.  The fake mustache fooled nobody!

Does Rivaldo/Rivelino miss the next match?

Also, do I get an advantage in the rolls playing with ten men?

Platini lines up 27 yards away.  He sends his delivery into the box, but the ball skips off of Augenthaler's head for a harmless goal kick.

PK earned!

Amazing scenes at the Nou Camp, Garrincha picks up the ball on the right side of the area.  He dribbles past Junior, but turns back to seemingly dribble by him again!  Junior, still sorting his feet out, has to foul!

Has Garrincha stole Christmas for Native?

This is amazing.  No clue how the sausage is being made and I don't care.  If Russell Crowe asks, yes, I am entertained.

Francescoli plays it to Garrincha who again twists and turns in the box.  Junior is afraid to get close to him.  Garrincha plays a wicked cross to a late arriving Breitner at the far post, but Breitner can only head directly at Gilmar.

The home crowd is in dreamland!  Lehigh98, down a man and unfancied are up 2-0!  It's Gunter Netzer with an absolute stunning free kick from 25 yards away.  Hit with pace mere millimeters from the upper left corner.  There is nothing Gilmar could have done!

Lehigh98 2-0 Native
