Computer Illiterates - Possible Solution (1 Viewer)

My parents are pushing 80 and struggle with using the computer. I'm wondering if there is a skin for Windows that acts like Samsung's Easy Mode. Basically it reduces the clutter and makes it easier for the user to do what they want. Is there a windows app that acts like a skin where you can activate only certain apps? Those apps would be available on the desktop. I update their computer every few years. This recent update they had to make the change to windows 10. Things are just different enough that my dad had to call to ask how to turn the computer off. If the skin could stay the same with each update, it would make it easier for the computer illiterates of the world.

Aren't they strictly using a browser?   I can't think of any other software the typical 80 year old would need to use.    If they're just doing everything through a browser, just get them a chromebook.   If using the browser is the challenging part that has nothing to do with Windows.

Most of it's browser. He also copies his digital camera pictures to the computer. Today, he couldn't find the power button.

For most of us it's intuitive. But the aesthetic differences between windows 7 and windows 10 can be confusing for some.

i'm functionally an 80 year old when it comes to computers and have a Chromebook. got one for my almost 70 year old mom a few years ago, too. she loves it. perfect for what she does.. email, facetime and a little web browsing.

Have you tried Gentoo Linux?

I was thinking Ubuntu. But only because I have a little experience with it. I will look Gentoo.

I also noticed the browser history on his old computer had one instance of Pornhub.  :lmao:
I feel bad.  I was joking.  DO NOT look at Gentoo.  It's complicated, to put it mildly.

Seriously, don't overthink this: Chromebook.
