SSL3 Post Draft commentary (1 Viewer)

Here it goes.

QB: Grade: C

Carson Palmer, CIN - 5

Chris Simms, TB - 4

Palmer is risky, but if healthy this will pay off huge. If you only have Simms early this could hurt  Grade: C

I like Palmer even with the injury. If he is able to play at any time before the bye I'll be more than happy and my QBs will get an instant upgrade. If not, this may be a short season for this team. Simms should be marginally better than he was last year with a healthy M Clayton and a stud running back with a full year under his belt.

RB: Grade B-

Lamont Jordan, OAK - 3

Deuce McAllister, NO - 7

Kevan Barlow, SF - 7

Greg Jones, JAX - 6

I like Lamont, but Deuce's role is very murky plus the ACL injury, I like Gore over Barlow but G.Jones is interesting, Freddy T usually plays until Halloween, but we'll see, Grade: B-

Just couldn't pass up L Jordan with the #12 pick. His catches may drop off, but he should be a bit more confortable in OAK this year with a healthy Moss and Porter. I dont see R Bush coming in a taking all the carries in the NO offense. He may not even get signed until mid-late August. Duece should still get 15+ carries a game if healthy and most if not all of the goal line duty. Barlow in the 7th? I'll take it. Greg Jones ran hard when given chanes and should see action to pick up some slack. Week 7 may kill me at this position.

WR: Grade B+

Chad Johnson, CIN - 5

Reggie Wayne, IND - 6

Kevin Curtis, STL - 7

Chad Jackson, NE - 6

Jabbar Gaffney, PHI - 9

Keary Colbert, CAR - 9

The meat and potatos of this squad, solid 1 thru 3, and I like the upside of your bottom 3,  grade A-

Solid core with C Johnson and R Wayne. Gaffney (55/492 in Houston) may or may not shine in a group of unproven receivers in Philly. That's if he can stay on the field. Curtis should produce with an aging I Bruce. C Jackson is a reach, but you never know who is going to get the ball in NE.

TE: Grade C

Vernon Davis, SF - 7

Coutrney Anderson, OAK - 3

I hope Vdavis is up to the hype cause C.anderson wont get it done.  Grade: C

I dont think they'd waste a #7 pick on a TE if they didn't plan on using him sooner rather than later. SF is probably going to suck and E Johnson, if healthy, may eat into his playing time. C Anderson was a disappointment last year, but did start all but 3 games for the Raiders. Again, I'm going to need some luck at this position.

K: Grade C

Jason Elam, Den - 4

Rob Bironas,Tenn - 7

2 average kickers with different byes.

DEF:Grade C-

Dallas DEF  3

Minnesota DEF 6

K's and D are solid, I really like Dallas this year. Grade A

If I could do it again, I would have waited a little longer to take my first defense and grabbed a 3rd QB instead.

Overall Grade: C+.

Lots of unanswered questions, but I'm hoping to do better than my last place finish in 2005.

Overall, This tema is good to contend for awhile, WR's are strong but Palmer's health will decide alot.  Grade: B
Sorry but when you say:
The meat and potatos of this squad
and then say:
I like the upside of your bottom
I can't help but do this :lmao:

Finally got around to looking at my team:

QB: Warner (9) Brees(7) B-

I waited until late to take my QB1 (round 6) and ended up with Warner. He is in a QB friendly offense, but has not been able to stay healthy the past few years. Needing a decent QB2 I decided to take Brees with my next pick. Brees is coming off of surgury and should be ready at the start of the season.

RB: C. Williams (4), K. Jones (8), D. Rhodes (6), C. Houston (9). B+

Went RB,RB,RB with my first 3 picks and, while giving me a good RB group, weakend my WR corps. Caddy seems to be a safe bet to make the move into the top 10 and Jones presented to good of a value to pass up in the 2nd round. I am taking the chance that Rhodes will be the starter in Indy, at least for the first part of the season. Martin is another year older and Houston should be next in line to receive carries should anything happen to CMar.

WR: Branch (6), Bryant (7), McCardell (3), Northcutt (6), D. Carter (9) Gabriel (3) C

Not a really outstanding group, due to the RB selections. Branch, Bryant, and McCardell are the No. 1s on their respective teams. But I do not expect much out of Bryant and McCardell due to the QB situations on their teams (and the fact that SD is a run first team). Northcutt will start in Cleveland until Edwards comes back from injury. Carter is a sleeper and will start the season ahead of Colbert, but he has not healthy his 2 years in Carolina. Gabriel is next in line should anything happen to Moss/Porter.

TE: Crumpler (5), Hilton (7) B

Crumpler is Vick's top target, but he should see his stats go down this year. Still, he should be considered a borderline top tier TE. Hilton makes for a nice sleeper at TE2. If he improves on the 2nd half of last year he will make a good compliment to Crumpler, if not then Alge will do as my only TE.

K: Feely (4), Kaeding (3) B-

Two kickers with early byes.

DEF: Det (8), NO (7) C

No bye week conflict. That is the best I can say about this group.

Overall B-.

My squad:

QB: Eli Manning (4), Rex Grossman (7)

My thoughts: I'm in the "Eli will continue to progress" camp. Yes, I know about the high numbers of passes thrown by NY last year, but I simply think that is a product of Coughlin utilizing what he has -- a nice set of WR along with a great TE. I don't see much drop off in pass attempts, and any drop off will be offset by Eli's increased efficiency and effectiveness. Grossman is purely backup material; he's obviously an injury risk, so I wish I'd done a little better there.

Grade: B

RB: Shaun Alexander (5), Jamal Lewis (7), TJ Duckett (5), Ladell Betts (8)

My thoughts: Alexander is a total monster, and single-handedly makes this group at least a B in my book. Obviously, the jury is out big-time on Mr. Lewis, but even his downside makes him a reasonable RB2 in a 16 team league like this. Duckett should contribute the occasional touchdown or two. Betts touches the ball regularly and will do in an emergency. I do wish I had some guys who were pass catchers, but that simply isn't how the draft unfolded.

Grade: B+

WR: Randy Moss (3), Derrick Mason (7), Michael Clayton (4), Amani Toomer (4), Troy Williamson (6), Mark Bradley (7)

My thoughts: I really like this group. Moss has injury concerns, but I still see him as an elite WR if healthy. Mason should continue to be solid and grab another 65-75 balls this year. Clayton was hobbled all year long last year and remains a big time talent. Even if he doesn't come back to 2004 form, he should be a viable WR3 this season. Toomer quietly had a decent year last season and is nice depth. Williamsson and Bradley are two guys with lots of upside to round out the mix.

Grade: A-

TE: Heath Miller (4), Daniel Graham (6)

My thoughts: With Randle-El and the Bus out of the picture, I like Miller's chances for improving on 2005. I think he can grab 7-8 TD and put up 550-600 yards receiving, which would make a him a strong starter. Graham is purely a reserve. He shows flashes from time to time, and perhaps he can do so on Miller's off weeks.

Grade: B-

K: Joe Nedney (7), Steven Gostkowski (6)

My thoughts: Not so hot. Nedney is a pretty good kicker stuck on an awful offense, and Gostkowski is a rookie who isn't a lock to get the job, though I think he eventually will. Still, no bye week overlaps.

Grade: D

D: Pittsburgh (4), Kansas City (3)

My thoughts: Love Pittsburgh. KC is a decent bye week fill in.

My grade: B+

OVERALL GRADE: B -- I like my team quite a bit. Fairly good balance, with a superstud in Alexander to guide the way. If Moss returns to previous form, look out.

Fire away

Updated my new bye weeks. Looks like the Branch holdout is going to kill this team before it can get off the ground.
