We haven't had a good modern-era draft in a while, have we? Something like post-McGwire/Sosa season (1999) to current (2009) wouldn't be a bad idea here.

I vote we do these years (1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, and 2000) and then, for XIV we add 1.

And so forth.

This idea is intriguing but I'd suggest using the nines instead of zeros. That would bring the 2009 season and one more decade into the mix

I don't mind this idea, but I thought we were going for simplicity this time around.

We went with simplicity last time and Koya's team still sucked. How about rolling a 25 sided die to determine the first letter of the pick's last name (Q & X combined)? I still like the idea of blacklisting all Hall of Famers maybe combined with a two or three sided dice roll to eliminate the one year freak seasons.

Even though I won WIS XII thanks to some real timely dice rolls, I'd rather have a draft without dice this time around.99-09. Straight up. Make it happen.

That might be a good format for a league but it's a bad idea for page one of a signup thread.

I was burnt out and lost interest in the last one. The SimLive adjusted schedule wasn't the good idea I thought it would be - just made everything drag out too long.

But we're now entering a great time of year for one of these.

1 player per MLB team draft
This idea's been mentioned a lot. Maybe time to give it a try.The one weakness is that over all of baseball history the strategic challenge of it is reduced by the depth of the player pool. Would probably want to tighten the era, maybe from 1977 (expansion to 26 teams) until now.

How about a greatest rookie seasons draft? All-time pool but only each player's rookie year is eligible.
Great idea.
tough to do cheatsheets
In the WIS search there is an option for "first/last season" --- set that to "first" instead of "none" and you get every player's first WIS season. You'd have to exclude 1885 (since that is everyone's first WIS season)Excluding 1885 there would be 7 hitters in the whole draft over 7mil. We could do "First OR Last" and exclude 1885/2009. But I kinda like the idea of getting some 2009 players in the mix.

Or you could not restrict it to the current 30 teams. You can have Buffalo Bisons for 1 of your 25 teams used. Finally almost a legit reason to exclude the Federal Leaguers though

Options:

Rookies only

1999-2009

The nines 1899, 1909, etc.

The naughts 1900, 1910, etc.

One player per MLB team (modern era TBD)

More dice rolls

:goodposting:
I haven't made a cheatsheet for a single one of these things. No shtick.
I do some handwritten ones, that's about it. But it makes stuff a bear to search, it would be extremely time consuming and I just don't look forward to that.

Yeah, I can see your point. I just think it would be fun to dig through 120 years worth of rookie seasons and get some historical perspective on them. I know,

Here is a theme that I have played a few times. It doesnt have a draft, but it is fun...

Tired of joining High Cap Leagues and having no chance once the first 8 teams are in? Tired of getting your first high level Franchise and never seeing the league fill? Hopefully this league will solve those problems.

Imagine adding Walter Johnson to the Astros or Larry Walker and Big Unit to the Cubs. Get your favorite Franchise that help they need to compete at this level.

We will work on the points system. Your Franchises can add up to 4 points. See values below.

You have Access to all players in the historical lineage of the team according to baseball-reference.com

***** The updated multi-team draft tool makes building a team simple

RULES:

•No to WW

•No AAA

•You must have minimum 3 players from your chosen franchises on your draft roster.

•No Twisting. Player must be in chosen Uni for year used.

•Stadium in use by franchises

Tier 1: 3 points may be used twice each

Cardinals

Any extinct franchise prior to 1920 ie:

Boston Reds (From Players League 1891-92)

Cleveland Blues/Spiders(1887-1899)

Detroit Wolverines

Philadelphia Athletics (1885-1890)

Baltimore Orioles (1885-1899)

Indiana Hoosier-Feds (1914)

Louisville Colonels:(1885-1892)

Basically, everyone gets to pick the franchises they use, within reason, and build teams that way. There will be some clones, but it gives alot of variety.

I like the one player per MLB team....but how do you handle teams that arent around anymore like the Federal League teams?

I always interpreted that as your 25 players have to come from 25 different teams, and you pick which teams. So you wouldn't necessarily need a Chicago Whale in there, but you could have one if you wanted. That said I agree with Eephus that the format works best over a modern era.

Shakespeare is in if this goes pre-2010. Otherwise, my good friend Greco will step in for him after the new year.
