Ought - "More Than Any Other Day"

Like the music, really trying to accept the "vocals". It's an album that will probably grow on me the more I listen to it. If you like Parquet Courts then you should at least give it a spin or two.

Damon Albarn - "Everyday Robots"

Yep, the same guy from Blur/Gorillaz ilk. It surrounds you in loneliness and melancholy but still allows you to bob your head. It's not bad but If I was going to listen to music like this I'd just throw on The National instead.

Love the quasi title track. I hear Talking Heads at times.

Buffalo Killers- heavy Reverie just released. Just started listening to it, but I already know this will be one of my favorites this year.

Lots of solid rap albums: Monch, Smoke DZA, Future, Mob Deep, Stepbrothers.

New Lykke Li is very interesting. It's much less polished and the electronic stuff (i.e. like Little Bit) is gone, replaced by wall of sound Spector sound. There are still a couple poppier moments but for the most part its mid-tempo and awesome. It's also a breakup album, so you probably have to be in the right mood for it... but it's also so good I kind of want to go back in time a few years, breakup with someone and play the #### out of it.

Love Me Like I'm Not Made of Stone

New Elbow seems super mellow and less anthemic than their past few after a couple listens.
First half of the album is amazing but the second half seemed more swoony and lost my interest. Need more spins coulda been my attenention span.
NV what are your thoughts on this album a few months later? I love it and am not listening to much else besides these guys lately.
For the record, I'm not NV, but I like the Take Off and Landing of Everything. First half is stronger (love Charge) but 2nd half still good. Title track I like.http://open.spotify.com/user/kupcho1/playlist/5IA91MhBcFB95p05nSnGeD

Yeah, it's probably my favourite album so far this year.

Parquet Courts reminds me so much of Hockey Night. Remember them? Before the crappy Free Energy stuff. When they were on Lookout!?

Yes I totally came around on the second half. Love sad captains and colour fields. Charge is amazing and the song that hooked me when I first heard the album.

A few months in and The War on Drugs is still my favorite of the year.

I don't know if I just noticed it or it just released, but there is a massive rarities collection from rEm in spotify. Man, those guys were really good.

Tycho - Awake is really cool.

Loving Cloud Nothings, but I might be a biased fanboy. There isn't hard hooky rock that's good anymore, or that has that kinda 90s angst to it. I think Cloud Nothings has done it well twice in a row now.
Love this album; only problem is it's too short.

8 That I keep coming back to so far:

Cloud Nothings

Elbow

Future Islands

Hold Steady

Hospitality

Lykke Li

War on Drugs

Wild Beasts

Parquet Courts reminds me so much of Hockey Night. Remember them? Before the crappy Free Energy stuff. When they were on Lookout!?

I've heard one album. Thought they sounded like Pavement. I have a soft spot for Free Energy. My kids love them. Parquet Courts leaked btw.

Savages and Parquet Courts are my two favorite albums from last year. I think a little more garagey/less-clever than Pavement.

Yeah, Hockey Night sounds a lot like Pavement.

Back in 2005 (?) fusing Pavement and garage-punk hit a sweet spot for me.

I do really like Parquet Courts. No doubt. Did not like the first track off of their new album, though.

Funny your kids like Free Energy. I can't judge it, I just heard them and went...argh. I really liked Hockey Night's sound.

Free Energy is dumb roller rink rock, but they know their way around a hook IMO.

I feel the same way about Manchester Orchestra.

I swoon over that song. You know the one.

I just love it. Saw a guy wearing their shirt at a concert the other day and couldn't stop singing it to myself.

Searching Hockey Night on Spotify is pretty grim (for a non-NHL fan)
Yeah, sorry about that. It was a weird reference, but they were one of the first to do garage/Pavement. I'm not an obscurantist, I just knew of them because of the label and fell in love with that album, especially the closer "Angel Hair." It'll probably take a physical CD copy to get them. I can barely find them anywhere.

Their 2 albums and EP are on the internet if you know where to look.
