______ Passed Away Today, RIP (2 Viewers)

RIP Dex from Flat Duo Jets. They were one of the first bands to strip things down to just a guitar and drums.

Nothing "natural" about dying at 57... Whatever the causes.

Yep. 57 is way too young and dying at that age for any reason is a tragedy.

Jack White talking about Dex Romweber and his influence on the White Stripes. I think this is from It Might Get Loud

Damo Suzuki was a Japanese vocalist best known as a member of the German experimental rock group Can. His singing often sounded like shamanic incantations in an invented language. Suzuki died at 74.
I have a few of their songs in my Spotify likes that I really like, but honestly never knew that much about them.

This was already posted and since deleted. Perhaps that was instructive.

I mean, if my RIP to Navalny is going to keep getting deleted, then I'd suppose this thread is heavy-handed in the moderation and that porn star deaths, while news, aren't really in keeping with the thread for reasons I'll not get into and will let you deduce on your own. You're an adult and this is a board that is apparently totally apolitical to the point of denying truthfulness. It is also PG. So I guess we figure it out.
I believe you and there's no need to repeat it, I should have known since it's been a couple days now in the news cycle. Happy to remove it of my doing
Thanks

Stacy Wakefield, widow of former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield

Tim passed just 4 months ago from brain cancer and Stacy now from pancreatic cancer.

I can't imagine the devastation for their children - utterly heartbreaking.
Jeez....... brutal, man
That is absolutely brutal...... At least the kids are late teens early 20s.

Not saying its easy on the kids or anything like that but I couldn't imagine if those kids were real young losing both parents...

Cancer sucks

ABC News played a clip from Robin Hood: Men In Tights. I was amused.

Dang, I just realized he died. I enjoyed his work for so long. First thing I thought of was the recently released Curb episode where he and Larry were arguing, each exaggerating just how much he'd outlive the other. RIP.

Maybe if you tell me the bad news in a good way.

Sad to hear about Mort. He was an industry benchmark.

Also - you didn't know him (or maybe you did?) but a classmate of mine from HS died late last week. He had some health problems and was on death's doorstep before after being in a bad motorcycle accident, but it sounded like his health was improving. Honestly don't think I saw him since graduating in '92 but through Facebook and whatnot, felt like we wouldn't miss a beat if we were to hang out again. A lot of people really, really bummed over this. He was larger than life and it's just a shock to the system when someone you felt a kindred spirit with, who was the same age, leaves this Earth. RIP Ryno, you'll be missed bro.

RIP to Karl Wallinger, who was the front man for a band called "World Party" and was also in a band called "The Waterboys". He was 66 and not in great shape following a brain aneurysm.

I consider World Party to be vastly underrated. "Ship of Fools" might be a top 10 1980s song for me. "Message in the Box" and "Way Down Now" rounded out a solid trio of hits for him. I really really liked 1993' album "Bang!" and was probably the only dork in attendance at the Starplex in Dallas who was more excited for his band than the headliner - 10,000 Maniacs.

Sorta sad that I just learned of this now and the news was from yesterday. I'm detuned from news but not completely detached. Wish I had paid my respects sooner.

Pop star Eric Carmen, who had four US top 5 hits, has died at age 74. He first became famous as the frontman for Power Pop band Raspberries. The group released four albums in the early 70s before Carmen went solo. "All By Myself", "Hungry Eyes" and "Make Me Lose Control" were all huge ballads but I'll always remember him for Power Pop masterpiece "Go All the Way".

I bought World Party's debut album because I liked Ship of Fools. Also like Way Down Now, though the rest never really grabbed me.

Ship of Fools is stuck in my head now, had to find it and Way Down Now on Spotify.

One of my favorite singers, ever.

Probably only diehard hockey fans will have heard of him, but former enforcer Chris Simon passed away yesterday at age 52. Very solid player in addition to one of the most feared fighters during his day.

While details of this death haven't been provided yet, most signs seem to point to him as being another victim of CTE-related causes. He would sadly be another in a long line of former 1980s/1990s enforcers that have suffered similar early demises from CTE effects (including, in many cases, suicide)

I remember him from this cheap shot

"In a statement provided to ESPN, Simon's family confirmed he died by suicide on Monday night." so sad :(

Also passing yesterday was Konstantin Koltsov, 42, another ex NHLer (and boyfriend of world No. 2 tennis star Aryna Sabalenka). Also reportedly by suicide. :(

Don't think he as an enforcer but who knows how many concussions he had during his playing career.

Yes, that was one of his many suspensions.

Thanks - I hadn't seen the update on Simon, but figured that was going to come out soon. Yes - also heard about Koltsov. Very sad.
