QB Geno Smith, SEA (1 Viewer)

Per the article:

"In the last four games, Smith completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,001 yards, six touchdowns, and two picks. He averaged 9.2 yards-per-attempt over that stretch, tied for best in the league."

Prorating a quarter season sample could be tenuous, but IF the light came on during the latter part of his soph season (wouldn't be the first time), over a full schedule that would project to 4,000 yards and 24/8. He lost Harvin, but added Brandon Marshall and rookie second rounder Devin Smith, easily a net gain.

Small samples are not reliable because one outlier ruins the batch

wk 14 18/29 254 yd 1/1

wk 15 16/28 179 yd 1/0

wk 16 17/27 210 yd 1/1

wk 17 20/25 358 yd 3/0

So basically he had one AMAZING game when both teams were already out of it, and 3 ho hum replacement level games.

That said I believe in Chan Gailey (and Todd Bowles) enough to buy Geno cheap. Better bet than the Buffalo QBs, at least.

He completed at least 62% of his passes in all of those games except week 15 against the Titans, which the Jets won.

Week 16 against the Patriots he had a better games than Brady and the Jets only lost by one point.

One game with more than 1 TD. One game over 300 yards. Ironically, both happened in a who cares week-17 game. Geno is awful. He was all season. No surrounding cast, coach, system will change that.

Is that you Alanis?

Rotoworld:

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora expects Geno Smith to get a "solid half season" to show he can maintain the Jets' quarterback job.
It's been widely speculated Smith might enter the season on a short leash after the Jets traded for Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason. Beat writers in New York have suggested Geno's rope might only last four games, before the Jets' Week 5 bye. Still, most indications continue to point to the Jets having some level of commitment to Geno, who is a sleeper in two-QB leagues after the acquisitions of Brandon Marshall and rookie deep threat Devin Smith.

Geno Smith - QB - Jets

Geno Smith has thrown zero interceptions through the the first four days of training camp.

Considering Geno has been picked off 34 times in 30 NFL games, this qualifies as news. He's taken the vast majority of first-team reps and been "solid." Armed with a Chan Gailey scheme that suits his skill set and legit NFL-caliber weapons for the first time, we're expecting Geno to take a significant step forward toward two-QB league relevance.

:shrug:

He's one of those guys who's shown flashes often enough that he can't be completely written off. I'm certainly not a believer, but I'm a curious onlooker. Worth a bench stash in deeper leagues. Even in a 12-teamer, I think you could do worse than his upside as a backup to a top-flight guy. Easy to dump if things don't start out on the right foot.

brohans lets not say things about geno smith that we can not take back blaine poopy pants fetal position gabbert was one of the worst qbs ever in the history of the universe and ruined one of the proudest and most storied franchises in the history of the nfl singelhandedly basically what he did to the jags is consdered a war crime under the genevive convention so puhlease bromigos lets try to keep our heads on straight here take that to the bank brohans

Geno Smith - QB - Jets

Geno Smith hasn't thrown an interception through eight training camp practices.

Marcus Mariota's interception-free streak has been getting more attention, but the turnover-happy Smith's has to be creating confidence in Jets camp. According to coach Todd Bowles, Smith's command of the offense is "night and day from the spring and OTAs." Smith has thrown 34 picks through 30 NFL games, a trend that will quickly get him benched if it continues this season.

Geno is obviously saving them up for the regular season.

@CLoprestiWFAN

Geno Smith out at least 6-10 weeks. Cold-cocked by IK in the locker room this morning. IK has been released. Unbelievable. #NYJ

Bryce Petty or Fitzmagic? Some of us are in start 2 leagues
Petty is not close to being an NFL QB.
@JeffDarlington 1h1 hour ago

Before you go down this road, Jets source says Bryce Petty is not ready -- "not even close" -- to assume starting role. Not the answer here.
