Tom Brady looking like a 6th Rd Draft Pick (3 Viewers)

It's obvious that Brady needs quality receivers to be effective. For so many years his receivers were said to be weak. When in fact, they were very good and lifted his game. Moss is a prime example!

Brady got nothing more last night that what was given to him much like Vick Ballard of the RBs.

 
Cementing his status as the greatest quarterback in nfl history with an undefeated start under adversity that his contemporaries have never faced. Give him welker and moss for one year - one offseason to get to know both of them, after they looked like scrubs the year before - and he sets an nfl record for tds and an nfl record for offensive production. Give him just one guy starter caliber wideout - a guy who would be the second or third receiver on his contemporaries' teams - and he surpasses marinos yardage mark. Give him one borderline starter, troy brown, and he gets the guy 100 receptions and take them to the superbowl. Give him nothing - his best receiver was on the roster bubble and made the roster as a punt returner - and he still leads them to a 2 and 0 start. The greatest to ever play the game, period.

You do understand that a QB is only as good as the people he throws to? There are very few positions in the NFL where you can be great without a good supporting cast. Maybe as Punter.

The patriots have the best record in the nfl right now. Teams like san francisco and the broncos need to win this weekend to keep pace. Why? Is it because the defense has allowed the most rushing yards in the nfl? Certainly not. Is it ridley, who was benched for fumbling twice and responded with an anemic 40 yard performance and a bobbled pass that was nearly turned over again? I doubt it. Is it his kicker, who missed a crucial field goal last night in a game decided by 3 points? Nope. Is it the receivers, who have dropped passes, run the wrong routes, failed to get both feet in bounds, bobbled touchdown catches, and gotten hurt? Not hardly.

Its a guy named Tom motherloving brady - the guy who took totally different teams to five different superbowls - the guy with the nfl touchdwon and interception records - the guy who has helped three different targets set nfl records of their own - the guy who has 50 straight games with a touchdown pass, just four behind drew brees' record of 54 - you know, that tom brady? The greatest to ever play the game, bar none?

This year is just another seemingly insurmountable mountain for him to climb. Remember that you were shovelling dirt on his grave yet again at the start of the season when, once again, he defies every so called expert's prognostications and once again takes this team further than anyone expected. I'm sure its exciting to root for guys who are given every opportunity to succeed, who leave a rebuilding team for a team with demaryius and decker and then add another stud receiver in the offense, or who can dump greg jennings and still have jordy, cobb, finley, and leave a guy who caught 14 tds last year on the bench while their new stud running back scores a td instead, and so on. What brady does each year is so much more indicative of his individual greatness, his ability to lead a team to victory, than any of his contemporaries. What he showed last night - and not for the first time in his career - was that he literally does not need a starting caliber receiver to win a game. Amazing.

His first 2 opponents QBs have faced the same or worse adversity! The Bills and Jets WRs are no better than what the Patriots are currently trotting out. Good think Belichick shipped out Welker! #genius

Geno Smith is the reason the Patriots won last night. Not Brady and his less than 50% completion ratio.

Omg Tom Brady! To bad he can only win rings by cheating. Hasn't done anything since the cheating has been brought to light but break regular season records while not getting it done in the only game that counts. So yeah, he is the best bar none... when his team is cheating.

When manning throws an interception at the end of the superbowl, it wasn't his fault. The defense let him down. When manning throws an interception in overtime against the ravens, it wasn't his fault. They shouldn't even have been in overtime to begin with. When manning throws four interceptions in one game in new england, it wasn't his fault, it was the patriots defense being so much better than his. When manning throws three interceptions against the chiefs, and seven total against just three tds, he "led" the colts to a superbowl.

You mean the only 19-1 season in NFL history. The 1972 Dolphins went 17-0. And I'm sure that Patriots loss had nothing to do with Brady's fumble at the end of the first half, or his inability to get the ball to an uncoverable first-ballot HOF receiver for the first 52 game minutes, or his inability to complete a pass when given the ball down by 3 points with the game on the line. Greatest choke of all time.

NE likely has had their overall W-L record inflated by a horrible division. The Jets, Dolphins, and Bills have been really, really bad. The Jets have been the best of the bunch trotting out Sanchez at QB...oof. However, to say that Brady has looked anything less than stellar in recent memory, including last night, is nothing short of fishing. He missed some throws last night, but he also made a lot of really good throws. If his receivers ran the right routes and caught the football, he likely hangs 300+ and 3+ on the Jets last night.

I'm surprised you haven't made the same comments about Peyton Manning, who enjoyed the best stats of his career against the Texans, who were 55-89 during his tenure as Colts' QB. The Titans and Jaguars have had some winning seasons here or there, but they haven't been much better. And in 2011, with the Texans poised to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, Manning said, oh my neck! and turned tail for the even worse AFC west.

this thread is ridiculous but let's not kid ourselves and credit Brady for the 2-0 start. He has looked very mediocre and the real reason that the Pats are 2-0 is because they have played two teams that won't win 10 games combined this year and are starting rookie QBs.

The Pats are not elite this year (although I'll reserve judgment until Gronk and Danny get back out there for any sustained period of time).

Brady is one of the best QBs of all time.

Brady is undoubtedly one of the best of all-time, but let's be realistic here, he gets a lot less criticism than Manning does when they do the same thing.

Vanderjagt misses a 46 yard field goal in the playoffs against the Steelers and everyone blamed Peyton for not getting him closer. Meanwhile Vinatieri nails a 48 yarder to beat the Rams and Brady is a hero for getting him within 48 yards.

Brady throws an errant pass in last year's Super Bowl and everyone blames Welker for not making a circus catch. Meanwhile, no one even mentions Brady the Clutch's withering performance in the 4th quarter of his last few playoff games (all close games).

You've answered your own point by simultaneously bringing it up and conceding that he has earned a pass in many respects. It was certainly brought up, in New England and in the national media. People were talking about whether 3 wins in 5 Superbowls is as impressive as 3 wins in 4 Superbowls, there was speculation that Welker was shipped out of town because he couldn't catch a first down pass when they needed him most - the fallout has been substantial. As it should be. It's also ameliorated by his Superbowl success. As it should be. Just like you said, in fact.If you want to talk about something getting swept under the rug by the national media, though, Manning's horrendous performance in his one championship season, when he threw 7 INTs against 3 TDs, and was bailed out again and again by his defense - that was swept under the rug. Because it doesn't fit the storyline that people want for Manning. I can understand that - and he's certainly earned a pass in many respects, as you say. But let's not act like Brady's been the media darling and Manning has never made a mistake that the media didn't exaggerate.

Because the guy who started this thread is a Colts fan and a Manning fan who has quieted down in the face of my factual arguments that indisputably prove that Brady is the best QB to ever live.
