It is a handicap tourney so really good bowlers tend to not do very well because they have no room for error. You do have to be in a league and get an official handicap or you go in as a scratch bowler. Min average for women is 130 and for men is 140 (so if you have a 120 average in your league you will be bowling with that min average for this tourney).ZOMG, I looked it up and it looks the team can be made up of scrubs... I'm definitely looking at 2025 to put a team together for this. Me and another buddy are probably retiring in 2025 so we would be the active and we would bring on 2 more that just retired. Time to start training the liverIt's a huge tourney that goes basically for the month of August. It's in different flights and your team bowls for three days. Half of your team must be active, retired, reserved military (so 2 of 4 players) nad it's a handicap based tournament. It's a ton of fun and you can win decent money. My first year I ended up winning $2500 between, team, doubles, singles, and overall.Say what now? How did I not know of this potential boondogleThe Military Bowling tourney in August? I will be there for that. Been there the last few years. It's awesome. Southpoint is great for that and has enough you never have to leave the area. All the restaurants are good and enough variety that you don't get bored. We are a group that goes out for the national bowling tournament.

They do also look for sandbaggers and will adjust your handicap if you are listed as a 140 and are rolling 220's every single game. They do a pretty good job of monitoring it. My very first year in the tourney I went in with a 143 average based on bowling in my local league with a house ball. I got my own ball at the tournament and used that and I ended up bowling 160-180 most games. Amazing what your own ball does for you. That was the year I won $2500. My average is now up to 165 so I have to bowl really good (for me) to make that type of money again.
Regardless its a great time and most of the bowlers are fun and don't take it too seriously.........although there are a few groups that are overly serious.
