New Macbooks look awesome (1 Viewer)

Has anyone checked these out? Didn't even realize new ones were out, but was in the Apple store and toyed around with one of these. So awesome. So light, so thin, I love the new "clicky" short movement keyboard mechanism. Very tempted to pick one of these up. Anybody have one yet? Thoughts on it?

Also, has anyone used the Apple "receycling" program? I was just reading online and apparently I can bring my current Macbook Air in and get trade value for it (based on the online calculator, almost $500). That's what has me leaning over the edge and thinking about pulling the trigger.

It's an amazing machine. You should get one. The only thing is the single port takes some getting used to.

At this point you may as well wait until the holidays when they come out with the new Skylake chips. Faster and uses far less power.

Single port is a big turnoff for me, as is the reduced CPU horsepower (versus the Haswell 13" MacBook Pro I'm typing this on). But even with those two tradeoffs, it's pretty tempting. Barely bigger/heavier than an iPad.

Interesting. Thanks.

More crap to purchase and keep track of.
In one sense I actually don't mind it. At home I dock my Macbook Air by placing it on a stand and plugging in power and a monitor so I have dual screen. Keyboard and mouse are bluetooth. That requires two plugs right now (power and display), would be nice to have just a single plug for all peripherals for docking purposes.

But you're right, I'd have to bring that adapter with me everywhere, and I'd have to make certain I have one everywhere I go. Would suck to be in a pinch for something work related and need to get a file onto it from a USB and not be able. (Although, on the flip side of that, I can't remember the last time I used a USB port -- all file exchanges I do are by e-mail, and most of my work stuff is via citrix so I'm not using the local storage much anyway).

Really tempted here...

I use my USB ports to charge my watch and mp3 player. Also stuck with a Windows computer at one office so I use an external hard drive to use some of the files on both units. Sometime my wireless printer is a PIA so I directly plug to the Pro.

Is the card slot in the adapter too?

The good thing is that these will push down the prices on the earlier versions so I should be able to pick one up for my son cheaper.

So the macbook weighs less than the macbook air?
Yup. 2.38lbs in the Air vs. 2.03lbs in the new Macbook. It's a noticeable difference in your hands too. I have an Air that is my only computer at home, and when I picked up the new MB at the store, it was significantly lighter. It's an awesome little machine. My only concern really is battery life -- it's not as great as I would like.

One port is a drag.... But less of an issue than most folks realize. If you still use old CDs or USB sticks then this isn't the machine for you. Personally I sync my phone wirelessly, I don't have many peripherals I need to connect that don't support Bluetooth, and even IF you needed to plug something in, the port isn't likely to need to be used for the power adapter given the all day battery life. So, while I WISH they had gone with two ports... It's not a total deal breaker for MY usage. YMMV.

Now, that processor? That's kinda a non starter for me right now (at this price point).

Brilliant little machine, but it's not QUITE there yet, for me.

If icon can't fully endorse it, that's enough for me to hear. Wait it out, I'm an impulse buyer like Otis and was debating but I'll hang back until they get the processor that will rule.

I use a MacBook Air everyday for work. Between Dropbox and iCloud, I can't remember the last time I used USB.

I'm not happy with the battery life. I'm a 100% brightness guy and you can just watch the battery level tick down. Bought almost 2 months ago, and really the only time I've used it is when my Acer C720's battery is dead.

Really good to know.

Guess I'll be sticking with my air for the foreseeable future

I'm probably going to do the same. It's such an awesome, slick machine in person, but if the battery life isn't there yet, that's a hard one for me. Though I'm still tempted, especially since I can just trade in my air to defer almost half the cost.

Which model do you have? Apple only offered $150 bucks for mine.

Seriously? I have a Macbook Air, one of the earlyish ones, but not the very first. The website that the Apple stored linked to showed me something like $450.
