The effect of 1.5 PPR for TEs (1 Viewer)

MrSoup

Footballguy
I've never been in a league with 1.5 for TEs.

Just wondering how much earlier they go off the board than in a standard 1 PPR for TEs.

I have not either... I expect the top two get taken second half of round 2; next 3-4 will go rd 3. The top scoring TEs FPs are about the same as a WR4-5 and RB6.

Some people like to let others take the top TEs and scoop up the "value" guys (Carlson, Z.Miller, F.Davis) a few rounds later. Still, every TE goes a little bit earlier in this format.

In FFPC/FPC scoring... the top TE's FP's are equal to WR1's and RB1/2's. From Last year:1. Rodgers, Aaron GBP QB 380.35

2. Johnson, Chris TEN RB 368.50

3. Brees, Drew NOS QB 360.

I don't think I like the fact that Dallas Clark outscored every WR last year.

In 2008 TEs were #9, 44, 45, 61, 62, 65 overall scorers. Gonzo was #9

That difference in TE scoring from one year to the next is ASTOUNDING! Does the trend continue in 2010, revert back to 2008 stats or settle somewhere down the middle?

wow that is quite a big difference. So do you feel as if the top 6 or so TE's will most likely be drafted by the end of the 4th round?

Today 1pm draft was held; round #1 two TE taken and round #3 four more were taken. The top 6 TE were taken by pick #30. Not sure if this is normal for a 1.5 PPR for TE but I imagine will be more the norm then the exception.

I went 11th and took Gates, Clark went before me in round 1. I had to reach some for a top TE as 5 RB, 1 QB, 1 TE and 3 WR were already gone so not much value in those positions so went with Gates. Those toward front of round 3 got better TE value but you never know as each draft is different.

curious on which rounds you drafted some of those players in i mean i think i can pretty much figure it out tho?

So Rusty, YOU'RE the one that went 12th going SUPER fast!!! That threw me off the entire draft. I walked away to piss and when I returned I missed my pick. Glad the commish was on top of things and let me get the player I wanted.

Yea that was me sorry about that just so long between picks usually had picks already to go.Guess I should have slowed down a little not real excited about my team.Over at the FFPC boards I have already gotten some flack for my team.Oh well never claimed to be an expert anyway gives me an excuse to draft another team.

I dont get the TE hype. Plugging the 1.5 ppr into DD shows Gates as the first TE at around the 50th ranked player.

well you are probably not using the correct baselines - BUT just go to FBG PC - Draft Dissected (free articles - link below) - you NEED to look at the scoring on this system from last yearhttp://footballguys.com/10pvh_fpcdraft.php
It depends on how you project the stats for the top TEs. If you use last year's stats, Dallas Clark shows up at #15 for me. If using Dodds' projections (which I feel is more likely at least for someone like Clark), then he is more like #40.

a te who goes for 6-80 = 17 pts, a wr needs 6-110 to match.

i think one benefit of drafting tes early is that you don't require dominant games from a te to get consistently good numbers.

most tes have low ceilings but their baselines seem factored into projections and their downside seems easier to predict...at least to my eye since i'm not doing historical research. thus i think drafting tes early is a conservative approach and probably the best way to go if you feel fairly confident that you can correctly grab sleepers at either wr or rb.

having a TE in your flex, one that pans out would be so huge,I think this league with the dual flex spots could very easily be won and lost at the two flex positions.Any opinions?

i like that thinking. on the other hand it's hard enough to grab a solid te. i've noticed winslow carlson keller schiancoe h miller tier at round 6-7. i love that a 60-70 catch surprise te has relatively the same value as a 90 catch wr. then again, how often do tes come out of nowhere to post those numbers?

i don't really know what the correct answer is, but jeff pasquino's article about the perception of tightend value is a really good read. basically the entire league sees the 1.5 and implicitly agrees to draft tightends v. early. really helped me in my last draft.

Bumping this.

In a league that has 1.5 PPR for TE's, where you have to start one and can start one in the flex, how early are the elite guys going in start-ups?

Just drafted my first start up dynasty with the graded PPR (TE gets 1.5/ppr).

I could not believe that a TE was not drafted by the middle of the second round so I traded up to nab the 1st TE Finley at 2.11.

Then traded up again in the 6th with Miller was still available and can flex a TE.

I don't think this draft is typical, but it is a reference point none the less (separate rookie draft starts in round 27):

The last post may interest dynasty owners but has no relevance to a 12 team redraft league with limited roster spots

AGAIN if you want to know where the Top TE went in drafts last year there are links much earlier in this thread.

Look at the scoring from last year with the 1.5 PPR in place to see where top TE are in relation to top RB/WR

That said the TE position appears to be much deeper this year so I can see waiting on one and then maybe grabbing two or three so that one will emerge as your TE1 and if lucky the other one (or one of two) could be used as a Flex if they really are scoring well.

doing a couple of mock drafts in a league that has 1.5 ppr for TE and with flex you could actually start 3 of them....12 teams head to head mentality...

if you can pull 3 TE's with 70 catch potential it like having 3 Wes Welkers at 105 a piece....yards might not be the same etc....but still....
