Ryan Fitzpatrick

Recommended Posts

He's now had the job in BUF for 4 games, and what has he done with the opportunity? Only scored 15, 20, 21, and now 29 against some very solid defenses (NYJ and BAL).

What do we do with this guy? Is the BUF passing offense for real? We know the BUF defense is awful, so they will be playing from behind likely every game...and that means close to 30 pass attempts per game at least. Is he now a must-start every week no matter the matchup? I have him in a 2 QB league and may have no choice but to start him every week over the likes of Jay Cutler and maybe Josh Freeman.

So, any thoughts on how to evaluate Fitzpatrick going forward?

Picked him up off the waiver wire 2 weeks ago as I was looking ahead as they play the Lions week 10, Rivers bye. I thought he's been looking good but I didn't see this week coming.

Buffalo's D is bad so they will give up points. He'll have some serviceable games and a couple big ones. It's just hard to know when the big ones are coming.

He's performed well pretty much every time he's been given the opportunity.

Dude, looked very poised today in some crucial situations. You can tell the team rallies around him.

He's a perfect QB2 for FF purposes.

Just traded him away before this week. I was worried about the Bills being out of contention and bringing in Brohm for the rest of the year. After this week, I'm not so sure.

I convinced myself this morning that if he has another productive day against Ravens' D I had to snag him. My QBs are Cutler and Palmer. By the 3rd qrt of the Buffalo game I picked him up. Buffalo's D is going to keep Fitzpatrick passing and I love his next three match-ups (@Kan, Chi, Det).

He is averaging the same amount of points per game as Rivers which is a tad below manning at #1. Yep, those stats are amazing. This is why I traded for him in two leagues these past two weeks and picked him up in another weeks ago. There is no reason for his stats to take a dip. Buffalo's Defense is horrible. Lee Evens and the coming out party of Stevey Johnson. Rosco Parish is okay. Stevey and him are "on the same page" stevey said. He went to Harvard. Jackson and Spiller are a nice combo. This week he was making nice audibles at the line and firing strikes down field a la Gradkoski but with accuracy. They like this gun slinger. I was impressed by his arm. This guy should be the starter next year, but they should also draft a franchise quarterback if they get the chance. Which they will.

:X
Cutler is awful. Sure, he has some OK weeks but he very often will mix in 3-5 INT weeks. I agree with this move.

I think the question Fitzpatrick owners need to ask themselves (because I would assume he was a wire pickup in nearly every league this year), is if they're sitting on a Top 8 QB1, is it a smart move to move that guy for a piece of top talent elsewhere in light of Fitzpatrick's emergence.

I wish I would have believed in him today. Played him a couple weeks back but sat him for Cutler this week. My game would be over right now had I gone with Fitz. He's legit. Buff defense is awful and they will be slinging it all over to play catchup.

Exactly my thought. This may be the time to trade someone like Eli Manning, Matt Schaub, or even Tom Brady perhaps IF you can get a top 10 RB or WR in return and IF you think Fitzpatrick will really keep this up. And really, I don't see why he won't keep it up. He's performed quite well against very good defenses. But, maybe going forward other teams will start to game plan against him specifically? Another option is to try to sell high on Fitzpatrick. But, I doubt many owners out there will pay for his current performance, so that begs the question then: Do you settle for some mid-tier talent in a trade or ride his hot streak and shop a top 10 QB instead?

Considering dropping Mcnabb for him in a short bench league. People keep saying this is a bad offense but they keep putting up fantasy points. While I wouldn't trust him as a full time starter, I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to put up top 10 numbers each week and is a good QB to use in a committee going forward. Next three matchups, @KC, CHI, DET don't look all that bad and his chemistry with his receivers is improving.

I'm amazed by the love in here. I feel a few of you should take a look at the Danario thread to be reminded of what can happen with reality.

That said, perhaps I'm missing the boat on this one. I'm intrigued.

2, 2, 3, and 4 TD passes. I don't care if his name is Putzpatrick, those are legit numbers. He slings it like Trent Edwards on viagra and the coaches have all confidence in him. I think I've made my mind up on starting him next week over Stafford as I have Flacco/Vick on byes.

Yeah, I really didn't like this matchup this week and dropped him ... I doubt I will get him back now. Limited roster spots, but I really hated the matchup against Baltimore. I feel like a fool.

i am like the biggest fitz fanboi you could possibly imagine at this point. he just throws it in there. dude dont give a fck. he went to harvard for a reason. its quite clear he understands that to win you gotta be the opposite of trent edwards. its kinda funny bc he was uber trent with the bungles where im not sure he threw a ball over 10 yards that whole season. housh should ship him a couple mill at least.

anyway, i think he understands the risk reware (harvard ldo) inherent in his situation and he has been on the positive side of variance.

The thing is.....they still haven't won a game and they do want to see what they have in Brohm at some point before the end of the season. Fitzpatrick has been a journeyman QB for a reason.

My dilemma is having him and Brady in two different leagues. Almost time to consider a change. Brady has taken a dive since the Moss trade and his ceiling appears drastically diminished. He's hardly throwing the ball down field at all. Fitzpatrick is outscoring him weekly at this point.

He is starting to look legit. I think the wins will come. The Bills have a very tough schedule but I would not be surprised to see them finish with a better record than the Bears. I am not saying , just saying.

Evans is looking like he may be back also, but we have been fooled before...many times.

If Fitzpatrick keeps playing like this, why would they even feel the need to go to Brohm? Fitzpatrick isn't just putting up big numbers, he's doing it pretty efficiently. He currently has the #2 QB rating behind only Peyton at 102. That's a ridiculous QB rating. If he keeps up a similar pace, the Bills won't care what Brohm can do and may decide Fitzpatrick is their franchise QB.

They should sign Matt Birk so that they can have a complete Crimson attack in the middle. Having two Harvard men in control of the ball would be basically an unstoppable combination based on brain power alone, and you'd probably see some of the best gadget plays ever run in the history of football take place as a result.

Bills much maligned offensive line also played huge. First ever NFL start for undrafted Cordaro Howard at right tackle and he played well along with Bell at left tackle. Interior line was opening up huge holes for the run game.

Fitzpatrick is smart and he has presence in the pocket. If he keeps playing like this he could make it a tough choice for the Bills to draft a QB.

Same exact situation for me. Fitz will be in from now on, Cutler to the bench.

Fitzpatrick has made huge strides since his last season in Cincinnati. He is now an agressive, decisive (if at times inaccurate) quarterback. Keep in mind, he is still only 27.

He makes the right reads, calls effective audibles and is tremendously respected in the locker room.

There is a growing sense among the Bills fanbase that he can be the answer at quarterback.

Lets not get too carried away. Better decision would be draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd to groom for a season or 2 while Fitzpatrick runs the ship. He's proven he can handle that at least.

Fitzpatrick is the only reason they've been competitive in games. I can't possibly imagine the Bills are dumb enough to sit a guy that's performing as well as any QB in the league right now.

If he isn't the long term answer, then I don't mind it. Who cares if the Bills are 3-13 or 0-16. I'm sick og going 7-9 or 6-10 and blowing the first round pick on some position we don't need. I like Fitz, but is it a coincidence he hasn't held down a starting spot in the league until 3 weeks ago? If he was really that super special, would Trent Edwards have beat him out. Of course, that was the coaches decision, or so we've been told.Anyways, I still would like to see Brohm, because of the accuracy and arm issue.

Well, plenty of guys take a multiple years before the light goes on. Playing QB in the NFL is maybe the hardest thing in sports and it can take a lot of game experience before a QB feels comfortable to the point where the game slows down. I can certainly understand the skepticism, this is a relatively small sample size, but defenses know the Bills have to pass and he's still getting it done. I confess I haven't watched a lot his performances, but he's looking to me like a legit NFL starter right now. If I was a Bills fan, I'd be happy to take my chances with Fitz over Brohm. I'm no scout, but I've never been terribly impressed by Brohm. Edited by Hank Mardukas

Romo owner in both my leagues. Luckily I had Orton in one, but no back up in another. I already got him in one, and will try to get him in my 2nd to backup Orton.

As a Kolb owner, I picked up Fitz a few weeks ago out of necessity. Too bad I did not play him this past weekend. Fitz has become my starting QB by default now that Kolb is headed back to the bench.

Fitz should put up average to better-than-average numbers the rest of the season. I do not think he finishes the season as a top 5 QB. He was a journeyman QB for a reason.

Im getting him hopefully to take over for Romo. If I miss I'll go for Kitna. Fitzpatrick has done better than Romo and against stronger defenses and with fewer weapons. I just hope he can keep it going.

Tyler Thigpen over again?

Exactly - ....rode Thigpen in 2008 and Chan Gailey is doing the same thing again here with his system....I just pray the rest of my league are non-believers and I can scoop him up his week - probably a few weeks too late though...if I don't get him I'll be going after Kitna - either is a better option than Cutler (with that Bears O-line)

After losing Romo, he's certainly on my list of targets....right near the top. He's leading the league in PPG since he was made starter.

I'm sure this is pretty relevant for tons of us Romo owners.

He (Romo) was my only QB.

I picked Fitzpatrick up, but haven't seen him play once this year. Would love to get some insight here. I can trade for a solid QB (who has been well below Fitz in PPG) for some depth that I can probably afford to deal away, but I'm not sure whether I should do it or stick with Fitz. I won't give the details so as to not make this an Assistant Coach question... but wouldn't mind hearing what the other Romo owners are thinking here. I trust the potential trade QB more, but can't ignore Fitzpatrick's productivity. I've got a good, deep, 2nd place team, but this will probably be the key to my season.

Is he a long term option from here forward? Would you rather him or a top 15 QB that you "trust" more? Or - should we just go ahead and trust Fitzpatrick.

Tyler Thigpen over again?

I won my FF championship with Thigpen so hopefully so.
the similarities are kinda shocking. he will run for some yardage, he will throw for a lot of yardage because they will almost always be down, he will probably throw a couple picks and make a few boneheaded plays but as long as you don't get to heavily penalized ... those can be absorbed.

Tyler Thigpen over again?

In terms of coming out of nowhere and lighting it up in fantasy yes, but that's where the similarity ends. Thigpen put up numbers exclusively out of the spread in games the chiefs were getting run over. Fitz is keeping the bills in every game. This past weekend he came back from a ten point hole in the 4th to take the game into OT, and had they not fumbled they may have won. His completion percentage has only been below 66% once since he took over, he has 11 TDs and only 4 interceptions, and his QB rating is second only to manning. He can be had relatively cheap in most leagues, I say why not go get him
