Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (9 Viewers)

Pats waived D.J. Foster (for now).
Traded Brissett to the Colts for WR Phillip Dorsett.
Moved a 2019 6th round pick for DB Johnson Bademosi (special teams specialist).
LB Trevor Bates, WR K.J. Maye, CB Kenny Moore cut.
OL Andrew Jelks will be placed on the NFI list.

I'm just curious before they got Dorsett who were going to be the punt & kick returners?
They were trying to have Jones be their kick returner. Earlier in the off season, word was that Dion Lewis was going to return kickoffs, but I am not sure if that is still the plan. NE was leery of rolling out Edelman or Amendola to return punts as they have been fragile and are needed at receiver.

BB said in his radio interview yesterday that they hadn't decided and it could be someone not on the roster.

Cassius Marsh - DL - Patriots

Patriots acquired DE Cassius Marsh from the Seahawks.

No word on what the Seahawks will be receiving. Marsh recorded 22 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 387 snaps last season. He'll earn $690,000 in the final year of his rookie deal.

Michael Bennett raves about this guy.  That probably sold BB.

Even with season-ending injury to Edelman, Amendola expected to be on a snap count and have his playing time limited / managed.

BB must sleep better knowing his guy has won more games than half the QB's in the league have . . . COMBINED. (To be fair, there are a lot of good quarterbacks on that list, they are just very young.)

In the end there really weren't too many surprises...I would say the biggest one is Croston making it over Karras...Karras is a guy that a lot of the beat media were speaking highly of and Croson is a name that seemed to be overlooked...he is from Iowa so I gotta believe the Ferentz connection helped somehow...

That's cool that Hollister made it...

The Patriots had the following four players claimed by other teams on waivers: WR Austin Carr (Saints), TE James O'Shaughnessy (Jaguars), CB Kenny Moore (Colts) and OT Connor McDermott (Bills).

I'm disappointed to see Carr cut.

Really thought that he proved himself as a gamer.

Maybe BB feels no other team will find Carr roster worthy and they can just stash him him on the practice squad.

I think that I would have preferred Carr over Dorsett as a WR.

I feel bad for the Hollister twin that was cut. Would have been cool for them to both make it.

Here we go! Ready for some football? As far as fantasy, it's anyones guess. Will Gillislee be featured? Burkhead? How will Cooks do? Malcolm Mitchell hurt? Dorsett inactive for now?  Let's take a look at Dwayne Allen.... Man, this will be good!

I am damn near 100% in on Lewis and Rex in my leagues and FBG contest.  Kept taking a stab at that combo on the cheap and at the end of drafts.

Ok, thanks. Time to ramp up Dorsett... and makes you wonder if they knew this was coming and made the Brissett/Dorsett deal.

I liked Mitchells' size and he showed great hands.... it's a tough loss. But hopefully he'll be back for the playoff run.

If they saw this was coming I'm a little miffed they didn't do this sooner and keep Carr.

From what I have seen, they were not as keen on Carr as the rest of us. Mostly practiced and played with the 3's . . . rarely got to play with the 2's, let alone the 1's. Apparently how much the Pats think of you is determined by what grouping they have you practice with.

Is the Mitchell move a prelude to signing a certain recently retired veteran WR? I think Boldin would fit in well with this group. Playing the first game does give NE the jump on the rest of the league, able to sign a vet to a non-guaranteed deal for the rest of the season.

(Buffalo would probably want some small form of compensation, but I'm sure they could work something out.)

Hard to be all in on Lewis with as good as White has been. White was flawless in the Super Bowl and he's obviously earned the confidence of Brady and the coaches.

If not in the backfield, I could see White in the slot a lot tonight and having as many touches as Lewis.

So is there any talk of Belichick being out-coached? Looks like at half Reid made all the right adjustments and the Pats had nothing new, plus they looked gassed, especially Brady.

Injuries are catching up. Say whatever you want but you cannot just put in any receiver and dominate.

And I took Brady in the 3rd round. Ugh

Looked like a team that didn't put much time in during the pre-season and wasn't real hungry.  Too much talent on this team not to right the ship quickly.

They looked like a team that hadn't played much together. A lot of guys missed chunks of time in camp and it showed. Lots of blame to go around. Poor coaching, play calling, and execution. Could have scored 30 in the first half. Stuffed twice on 4th down. Gave up 90 yard drive to end half. Could easily have been up 3 TDs at the half. Then came out flat the second half. Not the way to start the season.

Also - and this is just a feeling after watching - I think Gronk looked like his back was hurting him. Did anyone else feel like gronk didn't look like his old self?

It shows up again. I said in last year's playoffs that I hoped the Chiefs played the Patriots instead of the Steelers because Belichick, for whatever reason, struggles against teams with running QBs.  And once again, the Patriots look terrible against one.  And its not even like the running QB piles up a lot of yardage by running with it.  Its more like the prescence of a running QB causes Belichick's entire defense to collapse.  The Patriots points per game allowed average is much higher vs teams with a running QB than against teams that don't have one.
