Interesting that the first three rounds produced 25 WR picks and only 5 RB picks.

I really like this thread and the idea of doing this approximately monthly is a great idea for helping measure player values.

Due to the scoring system (4pts/TD pass) I think QB who can run the ball are worth more. Although I do not like taking QB early, I was happy to get Russell Wilson at pick 24. I had Cam Newton ahead of him and he was taken one pick before I took Wilson.

In the previous mock Rodgers, Luck and Cam are all gone by pick 26 yet Wilson falls to pick 58. This seems like tremendous value for the scoring format that late.

Whoever is taking Josh Gordon this high is something I think anyone should take with a heap of salt. Drafting him over solid players is not a risk that was at all necessary this high.

This thread is referencing dynasty drafts. You posted a redraft from 2015 which is fairly irrelevant when talking dynasty

I did two January drafts, one started Jan 13 and one started Jan 17. The latter just finished today. Here's the results. Some interesting movement in SF receivers, Tannehill, and of course Megatron (this would place it well after the original rumor posted in the SP).

Since I only did 2 drafts, I also am posting an average that includes 11 other drafts, but those started earlier and might not show the same coach-related movement.

I think I prefer Lockett over Edelman.whos ADP has been consistently higher, Lockett fell to pick 78 in one of the previous mocks although he has been around pick 50 in others. Unlikely he will make it back around again.

DeVante Parker was gone before my second pick and Freeman the best value RB available although I have some mixed feelings about him talent wise.

I think Cam Newton is a slightly better pick than Wilson and I would have taken Cam ahead of Wilson if he were available in the earlier mock where I pick Wilson.

I don't have a lot of experience drafting from the top spot but quite a bit from drafting towards the end. So similar strategy of being able to pair up picks which is nice, but being a bit further ahead of a lot of teams due to the 1st overall pick.

The starting requirements are 2 RB 3 WR 1 Flex so I feel better about 3 good young WR than I do only two WR with one of them being a short term investment.

Overall I think I like the 1st draft better than this second attempt so far.

eta - Lockett went with pick 5.10 58th overall.

Here is the draft I am participating in. I picked 1st overall again so this gives me the opportunity to see if I can improve on the lineup from this spot or not.

After my picks in the fourth/fifth round there was a pretty heavy run on RB. Yet this group of drafters is very focused on youth and Jamal Charles fell as well as Jeremy Langford who I scooped up as well giving me 3. Then coming back at the 8th and 9th round turn Fitzgerald and Baldwin (who I was considering along with Edelman in the 5th round) are still there so I take them both giving me 4 total WR now.

I did not expect quality WR such as Fitzgerald to last this long. Since they did my draft is looking a bit better now. I went with Denver and Arizona defenses at the 9/10 turn and I am one pick away from the next turn where I will take backup QB/TE so this will be two of Kirk Cousins, Clive Walford or Andy Dalton.

While I think it looks good on paper to have two of the top scorers at their position from 2015 that does not mean Cam and Freeman will do as well in 2016. I have some reservations about Freeman or any RB long term and for a start up draft I would have preferred to draft a WR. In the previous mock I did both Freeman and Cam were drafted before my 1st turn picks. I took WIlson and DeVante Parker. In the second mock Parker was already gone but Benjamin and Landry were still available. I could have taken either of them over Freeman to go with Cam instead.

At the 4-5 turn I got Kelce and Edelman. As already mentioned, to go younger perhaps Lockett or a rookie like Coleman or Doctson would be a better option to start with a younger player. Drafting a TE a QB and a RB in the first five rounds prevents me from building a stronger WR group while essentially all of the good WR are being drafted. While this may help me to win more in 2016 it has the trade off in that I am not as deep at the WR position as I would like to be in a start up draft. In the previous mock I drafted Lockett and Rawls. I value Rawls similarly to Freeman and feel better about the value of him at the 4-5 turn than I do about Freeman at the 2-3 turn.

I am normally against chasing positional runs. However the main reason a run on RB occurs in the 6th and 7th round is because most of the quality WR have been drafted by then. 

Although I already have Freeman I get Charles and Langford at the 6-7 turn. I was pretty excited about Charles falling this far and if he recovers should be a strong RB to pair with Freeman in the short term. Langford looked good enough to contribute as a 3 down RB for the Bears. I still do not have a 3rd WR which is a required starting position, so I was regretting the Freeman and Kelce picks somewhat because of that. In the previous mock I drafted Bernard and Dorsett. Landford and Charles were gone before these picks at 5.11 and 6.02

Fitgerald and Baldwin at the 8-9 seems like really nice value based off of how they performed last season. In the previous mock Baldwin went at pick 6.04 Fitz went at 8.07

Some of the rookie RB I like and Tevin Coleman who would have been nice insurance for Freeman were drafted before my next turn and I ended up taking two defenses. which was earlier than I drafted defenses previously. Booker was still there so perhaps him instead of the second defense. WR is very depleted by this point. I was able to get West to handcuff Charles with at least.

Overall I think I did better in the January draft than this one although this team may look more competitive on paper for 2016.

For the first three rounds 75% of the picks are WR. This slows down a bit in round four with only 40% of the picks being WR. Round five is 67% WR

While I am always for zigging when the value is there. Do it too many times (as I think I may have done) and you will find yourself drafting starters from outside the top 50 WR.

Man, is Lockett really going that high?

I took him in the 3rd of my rookie draft last year... I think I'm selling at these prices.

That is the thing I have been debating is if Lockett has WR 1 upside or not. I think he can be a WR 2 and going in round 5 as your 3rd WR gives you a pretty solid return on that value with the upside of WR 2 numbers. He performed well as a rookie and will likely improve with more experience. Wilson is playing at a very high level despite being sacked the most times in his career. Improve on that and more pass attempts are possible.

Baldwin came into his own as well with one more peak year remaining at 27 years old currently. So if Lockett gets less opportunity than Baldwin for the next couple seasons, that limits Locketts upside.

The Seahawks total offensive plays have been rising the past two seasons after two seasons of below 1000. Wilsons passing attempts also have been increasing each season to 483 last season. If that continues the pie becomes a bit larger and Lockett could see 100 targets which may be enough opportunity for him to be a WR 2. 

Lockett would need 115 targets @ 70% catch rate to get 80 catches. His ypr is decent at 13.

I think Lockett would need to surpass Baldwin to get more than 100 targets.

Graham if healthy will have an influence on that. Wilson did spread the ball around pretty well which likely continues.

I think he belongs with these guys. I can talk myself into taking him over most of these WR. 

I'm the one that took Lockett there.  I love going with upside picks at this point of the draft.  I see SEA turning more and more of the O over to Wilson.  As his contract balloons they aren't going to be able to surround him with the supporting cast they have so it's sink or swim time.  Bia hit my thinking - in the late 5/6 swing at WR38 taken it's my WR3 with high WR2 potential.  There aren't a lot of guys at this point of the draft like that.  Lockett is a dynamic skill player, they are going to feed him and see what he can be.

I would not hesitate to take David Johnson at 2.05 over DaVante Parker.

ETA: Donte Moncrief goes at 3.06 and Andrew Luck is drafted with the 4.02 ?? ... I don't want to know what the scoring rules are for this imaginary league.

I could definitely see David Johnson being more valuable than Parker in the short term. I prefer Parker obviously, that is why I took him.

The guy who drafted Johnson has Gurley, Johnson, Miller, Yeldon and Hyde so far.

I think Moncrief over Luck is pretty much what happens in all these mocks. It is 4 pt passing TD and full PPR, but no one seems to want to take QB early. I think the 3rd is tough this year, a lot of risk. Why not take Cam/Luck.

I took Cam at 3.4 in the draft linked. Couldn't see taking a risk on WR/RB over that type of guarantee. My team is Cam, Lacy/Hill/AA, Julio/Cobb/Diggs/Baldwin, Reed. I usually draft younger and less RB. Got sniped for L Green at 9.4 by 1 pick and ended up with Abdullah instead.

I don't understand kelvin Benjamin and Jordan Matthews at 25 and 26.  One tore his acl because he was overweight all off season and probably will be this season too, the other had a miserable season dropping balls.

Don't find that shocking at all.  By next offseason if DJ stumbles his value will tumble due to low draft pedigree.  Also as a runner he wasn't really that good outside of his one huge game on national TV.  Great receiver though.  Elliott can stumble his rookie season and still retain a ton of value due to his high NFL draft position.  Even after T.Richardson's average rookie season he was going top 5 overall in startup dynasty drafts.

Elliott has a much larger cushion if things don't go great, DJ doesn't.  Also Elliott is 3.5 years younger.

No brainer for Elliott to be ranked higher in dynasties.

But he hasn't stumbled.  They didn't sign Lamar Miller, they haven't drafted anyone yet, he's not hurt.  There's nothing that's lowered Johnson's value.  Late last year people were talking about him as a top-5 overall dynasty asset (and were only slightly out of their minds doing so) based on his usage and how impressive he looked.   And a rookie that we don't even know the landing spot of has surpassed him.  That's shocking.

I agree they are shaky but so are the young WRs that follow them - Moncrief, Treadwell, DGB, Doctson, Floyd, Maclin, Coleman. Who are you hanging your hat on?

I can see Benjamin putting up a 14 season or better just due to Newton's progression and the lack of competition. I can see Matthews not dropping as many passes and counting 15 as a temporary Knoblauch. And he had 1000/8 with the mind lapses. I think their floor for 16 is higher than Moncrief, DGB, and Floyd, assuming health. Their upside is probably lower. If Luck is healthy and Moncrief is steady (develops just a little bit). If DGB decides to go Gordon (in the good way). If Floyd plays like he did the 2nd half and Fitz demands less RZ. I think those are all better than Philly WR1 and Car WR1. 

If your goal in a startup is team building not necessarily Y1 title, I think the logical thing in the 3rd is to get Cam or Luck. But if you are gunning WR early because "that's what people do" they seem acceptable.

I think they are clearly in the tier with the guys behind them and not in the tier with the names right ahead of them (Hilton, Cobb, Landry). I would pay a few to upgrade to Cobb.

I agree with what thrifty just said above for the most part.

When you think about what Cam did with the WR he had last year, Benjamin should do very well.

As far as Moncrief (and to a lesser extent Hilton) goes I think he is being over drafted. Dorsett is the best value if you want a piece of the Colts passing game. Strange that he was the highest draft investment of any WR on their roster and people overlook that he may be their best WR soon. 

I would buy Dorsett all day and fade the other two.
