Live PD: A&E Live Red Zone Version of "Cops" (1 Viewer)

Did a search this morning.. Must be the number 1 LivePD search as there are hundreds of posts.. Here was the last report I could find:

The owner was located. She had a post that her dog was missing and people watching the show that had seen the post contacted her as did the vet when they scanned her chip.

Also the dog, Maxine, is 17 yrs old, deaf and has a medical condition which is why she is so thin.
Dog is at home with the Owner now..
17 years old .. wow..  🐶
Found this as well:

Richland County Sheriff's Dept.
@RCSD
Dog Update: We are taking care of dog’s vet bill!

@Melissa61471633: Dude keep driving till you get out of West Baton Rouge... any other police department would be better #LivePD

I wouldn’t want the guy to get bitten badly, but I wish there was a K9 running down the one guy who fled in handcuffs, he finally got caught, but was pretty elusive/fast, considering he was in cuffs.

Tulsa canceled their contract with LivePD, and paramount pulled the season opener for Cops... :(

Well, after reading the story it’s apparent that investigators have the videos

And I’m not sure how the live pd  producers could keep the officers from interviewing with the investigators.

Seems weird
They lumped the sheriff and LivePD in the same sentence which made it seem both were blocking... At the same time, this happened back in March and seems LivePD has battled before on handing over videos... The minute he died LivePD should have given the videos over. Other then protecting those they follow I'm not sure why they aren't helping.

Cops has officially been cancelled by Paramount
Can't even remember the last time I watched it...  That show has bounced all over.. It might take a few months, but someone will pick it up... Hopefully LivePD just takes a break.. Wife and I have watched it every Friday and Saturday since it started. :oldunsure:

According to Dan Abrams they were never asked for the video until now.

@danabrams: @Alyssa_Milano @OfficialLivePD This simply isn’t true Alyssa. This is a horrible event but the DA never asked for anything from Live PD until now. . .over a year later. If we had the tape we would certainly provide to the family. They have had the body cam footage from day one. See below https://twitter.com/danabrams/status/1270517285762093056/photo/1

@danabrams: @DadoftheDecade @Alyssa_Milano @OfficialLivePD Maybe our overall policy of not retaining videos was problematic but we did not want to become a repository for prosecutors and police to demand our videos to use in prosecutions of citizens. . we did not want to be seen as arm of law enforcement

Not a good look for LivePD, but if the DA has had the body cam of the event and the DA never asked for the video, sounds like the attention hungry sheriff and DA are on the hot seat.

:goodposting:    .. based on the article, the Sheriff seems to be a glory hound.. Time for LivePD to take a high road and stop following him.

These guys cover for bad cops EVERY week.   Typically it's cutting to another dept as they're about to manufacture probable cause or consent to search.  I'm sure my other posts in this thread are complaining about how often a K9 will "alert" and no contraband is found.
Yea, there are definite times we've watched when a cop does something that leaves you :oldunsure:   The show either cuts away, or the hosts try to reason it out.

Maybe, whenever they come back, with all that happened they will stop trying to make excuses when they see something that seems wrong.

You look nervous and uncomfortable. Never mind this camera crew, my beefy tatted up biceps, or my gun. For safety reasons I’m  going to pull everything out of your car now....

The mental gymnastics to justify a search is incredible at times. And I think detaining you while you call in a creature who would rather be   licking its junk to circle the outside of your car twice magically gives you legal access to  a search, especially when the “alert” is all but indiscernible.

I think the things I've learned from watching LivePD are:

- different departments definitely have different rules regarding bodily force. West Baton Rouge guys are dbags. Pomona CA cops are extremely physical and antagonistic. Richland county, you're getting a citation at least, but you're not getting wrestled to the ground at the drop of a hat.

- People of all races do really dumb things in a traffic stop. It's a potentially dangerous situation for the cop as well.

- Always shocked at number of drivers with no valid license. You can be sure there's no valid insurance either. Also surprised at people who swap license plates around and wonder why they get pulled over.

- Nye County Nevada has to be one of the bleakest and depressing areas of the country.

eta - different PD definitely have different chase protocol. I've seen some hairy chases over minor traffic violations (like the case in question) but I've also seen chases called off over more serious issues when traffic is an issue.

i've got no skin in the game, but don't you think the areas on the show are high gang, high crime and high drug areas?  are we to stop policing drug usage and distribution?  personally, i am not a fan of the dog alerting allowing a search, but if that determines probable cause, then maybe the law regarding dogs should be altered, i assume there has to be one for probable cause.  remember, these dogs rarely make mistakes, if at all and they alert to the smell, not necessarily the presence.  i'd hate to be a cop in richland county, sc and think that danny brown guy does an admirable job in what appears to be an absolutely bleak surrounding.  every time they stop someone they are seemingly encircled by biligerent people, all video recording.  its ok that everyone is dealing in these areas seemingly.  you have to figure some residents dont want the drugs and the guns and are happy the police are there, trying.  also, i am not a fan of the potential stolen car stops.........multiple officers, guns drawn, yelling for people to exit vehicles, walk backwards, etc.  but i guess there are certain protocols and the belief that if you are committing a felony, you are likely to flee or be possibly armed.

I don’t think a traffic stop should be the primary avenue to policing drug use.

I increasingly find  myself thinking they deliberately manufacture probable cause when dealing with people they know are not able to get the level of legal representation that would get that case tossed.

I don’t think we see any cases where the dog didn’t alert either because:

a. That’s boring TV.

b. The dog always “alerts” and it is still boring tv to show a fruitless search.

I don’t know the answers or even all the right questions, but it seems obvious the current situation is not tenable.

i think if you get stopped and smell like weed, all bets are off.  same as smelling like alcohol.  impaired is impaired and may save a life.  as for mfg probable cause, i don’t subscribe to conspiracy theories and try to take things at face value.

Other part is that the officer doesn't call for the dog unless he has a suspicion- smells like weed, runs license and past history, guy coming from drug trafficking area, etc AND the driver doesn't agree to a search. Not all traffic stops ends in k9 check or searches.

And, yes they've shown the odd cases where dog doesn't alert.  They've shown a lot of cases where dog obviously alerts. They've shown cases where dog "alerts" and it is not obvious at all.

Problem is most of the stops the driver isn't under the influence of weed, the car just smells like it.

That's what seems to be about 75% of this show.  Good riddance.

@danabrams: Shocked & beyond disappointed about this. To the loyal #LivePDNation please know I, we, did everything we could to fight for you, and for our continuing effort at transparency in policing. I was convinced the show would go on. . More to come. .  .https://deadline.com/2020/06/live-pd-canceled-ae-protests-against-police-brutality-george-floyd-1202956175/

To be honest though it was a guilty late night pleasure I started seeing especially older episodes of Cops much differently. I know it’s a different lens with pot being legal in many places but still - way too much time spent on this.

A good friend of mine is a local officer. His explanation to me why drug use, especially the smell of weed, gives them the right to search the vehicle which allows them to find weapons/evidence that were either stolen and/or used in a much more severe crime. He says that minor drug crimes are rarely enforced as they really don't care. Of course any TV program will highlight even the smallest crime to gain ratings, look at the supposed "reality tv shows", and it makes for good ratings and dollars. In reality unless you come across the guy that will give his own Mother a speeding ticket, a drug suspicion stop rarely results in a anything more than a minor offense.

ETA: Dogs more often than not respond to handler signals than actually sniffing out something illegal.
