Live PD: A&E Live Red Zone Version of "Cops" (1 Viewer)

So I watched a little of the other show last night.  One big difference that stands out is that Live PD doesn't feel the need to commentate through the scenes like I'm watching a newscast.  It takes me out of the moment.  The car chase last night to start the show was more like watching it on the news.  Where as Live PD is more like being on a ride along.  Just you and the cop.

Haven't watched the Fox one but agree with what you stated above.

Last week there was a very long car chase and the only "commentary" you heard was from other cops radioing back to HQ the status.
Meanwhile the cop we are riding along with is solely concentrating on chasing down the subject, not saying a word.

Finally, he gives the pit maneuver to disable the car and THEN we get the commentary..

Good piece on NPR recently about how much of COPS and, to a lesser degree, Live PD is either not real or staged for the camera.  Stuff like fake drug tests -- that come back positive on the show, but aren't when the results come back from the lab.  Taping stuff in advance for the show.  Waiting until cameras are rolling to serve routine papers to someone they think will be good TV.  Etc.

Several departments have removed themselves from the program.
Not saying it's staged or not but false positives come back all the time on the road side tests. Just saw a story where a lady was in jail for three months for a positive for meth road side test which turned out to be old cotton candy.

To be fair, old cotton candy will probably mess you up more than meth.

Does anybody really watch this show live?  I know people complain a lot about the commercials and they had that hour long commercial free spot on Friday, but I DVR it and watch it in the morning the next day while I'm still waking up.  The only time I really even notice the commercials is when they have a long chase going on and they have to take a break in the middle of it.

On a side note, I like this show a lot, but lately they do something that bothers me slightly.  Nothing major but more annoying.  We'll be watching one department and they'll get a guy out of the car who's being belligerent and acting crazy, put him in cuffs, and as they start to talk to the guy to explain why he's being put in cuffs, Dan will cut in and say, "OK, let's go out to Salinas where Officer John Doe is talking with a meth head about a domestic violence report..."

Why?  I wanted to see what was being said between the guy who's trying to lie his way out of all the drugs found in his car and the officer who's detaining him.

We spend the weekends relaxing at home so we have it on Both Friday and Saturday nights.
Wife is NOT happy when they take a vacation and run repeats.

I also watch this on DVR.  Have watched live a few times.  The amount and length of commercials near the end of the 3-hr show is crazy.  The last 30 minutes must be 3 commercial breaks of 5 mins each.

Yeah, I've noticed that when watching.  It's like they are squeezing in all the commercials they couldn't fit in the rest of the show.

I mean, I've been known to give the wife 5 good minutes on Friday or Saturday...  but yeah.

Watching repeat from last year.. This video from Greene county should be shown to rookies on how NOT to be a cop... Guy is pissed as he says someone shot his house and the cop has the balls to say "what do you want me to do".. Then wonders why the guy gets upset and "hostile"...

The cop escalated the situation by asking really stupid questions and then pulls his taser..

Hopefully that means less "earlier tonight" parts.. If I want to watch recorded stuff, I'll watch cops, this is "Live PD"!
I don't mind the recorded stuff.  But I hope it means less watching domestic violence calls for 20 minutes.  Where they are just talking to two depressing people yelling at the other person.

Hopefully they return to Pasco County.  We need more Florida Man!!!
They said one of the new ones will be an old one.  I'm rooting for Greene County.  They were the best.  Seemed like there was a chase every night with them.  Their first night, the motorcycle ran and he crashed his head against a pole sticking off the back of a pickup.  I mean, they knew how to start strong.

I haven’t watched in a while or very many episodes. I do remember the one in Franklin County (Columbus, OH) because I was living in Cbus at the time.

The sheriff’s are looking for a girl in her basement because she has a warrant or something. Family is upstairs not saying much but the sheriff’s know that she’s in there. They are going back and forth in the basement all the while an “adult” movie/show is playing on the big screen tv. It’s blurred but you can hear suspect things happening. They finally catch the girl as she was hiding under some stairs. They bring her out to cuff her and the tv show is getting really obvious of what is happening - woman on the show is getting LOUD! Finally the one deputy looks at the camera with a bewildered face and they finally turn the tv down or off.

My wife was in the other room while I was watching it and came in the room and asked what I was watching. Not sure she bought my explanation?

Yes.  I remember that.  They were so worked up in what they were actually doing, they couldn't hear the blaring porno.  But once it settled down, it was like they all heard it at the same time and started cracking up.

I remember that one too!  I wonder if the family wasn't saying much to protect the woman or because they knew a porno was on downstairs.

I 2nd Pasco county.  Also, I want extra domestic calls.  Watching this show makes me really understand why democracy in this country just doesn't work.  All these people have votes that count.

Felt like I was in a Live PD episode yesterday. May in fact be at some point.

Heading up the Interstate between OKC and Tulsa. Saw an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper deploy a stop strip on the opposite side of the Interstate. (I wasn't sure what was happening at the time.)  Car tops the hill with three more troopers in pursuit.  The car was moving fast and soon I am even with the pursuit as I see the trooper release the strip right after the car being chased passes me. As I watch in my rearview mirror the car hits the strip or is trying to avoid it and loses control. In my mirror I watch as the car goes airborne and rolls numerous times. Like something out of an action movie.

Turns out the car was stolen. Driver was ejected and died. Craziest thing I have ever seen.

Article about the crash and pursuit.

On that note, I'm really glad the folks in Williamson County shut down Live PD.  While I did enjoy the content,  I'm often in Austin and have friends that live in the Williamson area.  Those cops have a rep for being ##### but since the show started airing, they started looking at themselves as celebs of sorts and being a little extra on and off the clock.  F those guys.

I know nothing about the areas but at first look my thoughts about Terre Haute would not strike me as a crime ridden place.
Yeah I spent 4 years there for college (Rose-Hulman) and lived a block away from ISU’s football field for 2 years, so I wasn’t totally out in the bubble on the outskirts and I thought it was fairly typical.

However, when we went to a bar after a reunion weekend a few years ago,  we had to go through an airport style metal detector, so maybe I was more in the “bubble” than I thought.

The four new departments are out:

Terre Haute_IN

Bradford County_FL

Berkeley County_SC
Bradford County? Holy crap that is like Redneck central. Just North of Alachua county (Gainesville). Home to the booming metropolis of Starke (looks like it's stuck in 1974) and Raiford (location of FL Death Row prison).

There are multiple state/county prisons in Bradford and might be the largest industry aside from farming and meth.

Holy #### did that guy just die after hitting his head on the car?
He went down HARD! Cop knew it was bad also...  "Let me get these handcuffs on you then we'll get you some help"..

Guessing he won't be stealing again anytime soon

That was the greatest open field tackle in the last couple of decades.  I thought the cop may have gotten a 15 yard penalty for a hit to the head, but after a review, it was clearly shoulder to shoulder.  Then the guy's head to blacktop.

I literally could watch bad guys get hurt committing crimes on a loop for week's on end.  There is nothing funnier than seeing a guy go stiff and falling face first after being tazed.

I'm always amused by all the Constitutional scholars out there that got their degrees at the University of Budweiser.
