This is being discussed in about 3 different threads but I think it deserves its own as Federal prosecutors are already looking into this and who knows where it may lead.

NEWS: Federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether Trump's 2017 inaugural committee misspent some of the record $107 million it raised, and whether some of its top donors gave money in exchange for access. w/

Good idea to open a stand alone thread.  Butina should probably have her own thread as well...although opening a thread for each Trump investigating  can make the site unwieldy..😀

You have a point - we might have all of Page 1 devoted to Trump investigations the way things are going. :hophead:

However, there is probably going to be a lot of breaking stories and links on this, particularly after the Democrats take control of Congress in January, so I think it is nice a go-to thread where one can post and or find the latest news on it if one hasn't looked at it in awhile.

According to WaPo, the subpoena for Trump's inaugural committee indicates that prosecutors are investigating crimes related to conspiracy to defraud the United States, mail fraud, false statements, wire fraud, and money laundering.

Question for our attorney friends....I know a specific answer won't be possible without hearing testimony, but generally speaking, if the average Joe in this country were to commit that bevy of crimes, what kind of sentence would he be looking at?

technically she's correct, the WH (the building) is not even mentioned...although it impacts many of the people employed IN the WH as well as other cabinet members, family members...
I agree. The actual structure will not be implicated at all.

The investment firm founded by the chairman of Trump's inaugural committee, Tom Barrack, developed a plan to profit off its connections to the incoming admin and foreign dignitaries, according to a confidential memo obtained by WNYC and ProPublica.

MAKING THE SWAMP GREAT AGAIN!!

With Gates involved in the company they have everything...so how long until Barrack flips?  or do they even care?

Adam Schiff‏ @RepAdamSchiff 22h22 hours ago

Apparently Trump's Inauguration had nothing to do with Trump.

Nor did his campaign chairman.

Nor his lawyer.

Nor his national security adviser.

Nor his foreign policy adviser.

And given the amount of Executive Time, the presidency doesn't have much to do with him either.

I love the new emboldened Adam Schiff. He remained classy while Nunes ran the show and when juvenile Trump called him Adam Schi**.  Now he holds the cards. He's going to basically waterboard Trump for two years.

Schiff is my Congressman and had been so low key for years that I never would have expected him to achieve this level of national prominence.  It wouldn't surprise me when Pelosi finally retires that he is selected by the Democrats to replace her.

Where did $107 Million dollars go?

Pro Publica's Trump Inc latest podcast.

Honestly, no one is quite sure. It was smaller than either of the Obama Inaugurations, with no A list entertainers, and they spent more than twice as much. On what??

$175,000 per day (x 4 days) for event space at Trump International Hotel. Price does not include catering.

Another $1.5M at Fairmont Hotel, whose owners include Tom Barrack - the head of the Inaugural Committee.

The Committee had a goal of raising $60M to cover expenses. They raised $107M. There were 47 donations of $1M.

This is being investigated by the Southern District of New York FBI office, but it seems like there is still very little conclusive information to date. Certainly seems likely the possible crimes include money laundering, illegal contributions, cash-for-access schemes. and tax law violations by the committee.

Grifters gonna grift.

It's not a bug, it's a feature. This is just what he does.

I bet that money went to The Don and was specifically to grease the wheels. Smarter Republican candidates would have known how to bury this out of sight a lot better.

Who was behind the plan to give Saudi Arabia nuclear technology?

Well isn't that strange. Tom Barrack, founder of Colony Capital, and head of the Inaugural Committee.

Crazy coincidence.

House Oversight Committee is investigating.

I know, it's hard to keep track.

Yes, it is quite silly of the left not to follow the age-old rule where if a politician is found not to have committed a criminal act with respect to one story they are immune from all scandal and corruption charges. Especially after the right just exemplified this approach with their hands-off treatment of Hillary Clinton after the FBI declined to bring charges related to her email mismanagement.  We should stick to the important stories, like what color Trump's suits are, what condiments he uses on hamburgers, and which musicians he invites to the White House.

Christ, man. Do you people even hear yourselves?  I know you all hate being called trolls, but you mostly get called that because it's hard to believe you could be this lacking in self-awareness.  It's honestly kind of a compliment- people think enough of you to guess that this nonsense can't possibly be for real, so they assume you're doing it to get a reaction.

I'm surprised America survived THIS epic embarrassment.

"You know what else they say about my people? The polls, they say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s like incredible," Trump said.

I for one will be shocked if there is anything to do with the inauguration that isn’t totally transparent and above board.

I mean, Trump wouldn’t try to illegally profit off of that.  Wouldn’t be in keeping with his character at all.  We’re talking about a guy who gave up his presidential salary.   A true man of the people!

I just made a similar point in the Russia thread but I'll make it here too. Your point is super rational and it answers itself.

I took some poli sci and economics  and marketing classes in college. I'm sure this will seem familiar to people. But one principle out of those classes was the perfect or model voter, or market, or consumer. And they acted rationally. And I've noticed on this forum and FFA befroe it that there is no model or perfect Trump supporter outside what we are seeing here. This *is the Trump supporter.+++

+++ I'll hedge on that just to the extent that I realize that perhaps there are Trump supporters not posting who may have some other rationale.

But it certainly seems reflective of what is going on with the administration and its leadership allies in Congress and on Fox and RW media.

Seems like they found some criminals that worked for Trump. We also learned that our Christian Patriot President was sleeping with porn stars while married and paying them off. That all actually seems both relevant and damning of Trump’s campaign message.

Yeah, I mean why would you want criminals to remain hidden?  Heck these same guys don't even want ex-cons to vote, but they are perfectly fine with them having dinner and handies at Mar-A-Lago with the POTUS.

Does John Gotti ring a bell?

given the nickname "The Teflon Don" after three high-profile trials in the 1980s resulted in his acquittal
Guess he was innocent too and the feds should have just given up after 3 failures......

I would just like, after all the failures of the left  .... for maybe just for the next 12 months, WORK WITH THE GOP AND TRUMP TO HELP THE UNITED STATES

this 100% constant anti-Trump .... its so so old
As soon as the GOP and Trump get to that part, I'm sure they will.
