Direct Headline: How Liz Cheney and Her Dad Paved the Way for the Big Lie

She says Donald Trump crossed a line. But the Bush-Cheney administration didn’t?...In recent days, Liz Cheney has ...provoked outrage from the Trump cultists within her party who are now demanding she be stripped of her post as the conference chair, the No. 3 spot in the Republican House caucus. And the betting odds are not in favor of the daughter of former Vice President **** Cheney. ....But for accepting reality and stating the obvious—Biden won, and it’s bad for a president to encourage a violent assault on Congress—Cheney (outside of Republican congressional circles) has won hoorays. Writing on CNN’s website, GOP consultant Scott Jennings observed that Cheney is “now positioned as a principled martyr.”... In a recent Washington Post column, she wrapped herself in such noble garb, slamming Trump for “seeking to unravel critical elements of our constitutional structure that make democracy work—confidence in the result of elections and the rule of law. No other American president has ever done this....The Republican Party is at a turning point, and Republicans must decide whether we are going to choose truth and fidelity to the Constitution....”

....In the 21st century, American presidents have at least twice tried to shape the world with a lie of enormous impact.... And two decades ago, another Big Lie was concocted and pushed by a Republican president that resulted in profound (and lethal) consequences. Her dad was its main architect....That was the untrue allegation that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass of destruction and was prepared to use them against the United States. The Bush-Cheney administration used these charges to garner public support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. **** Cheney was the chief pitchman for this flimflam. In an August 2002 speech, he proclaimed, “There is no doubt [Saddam] is amassing [WMDs] to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us.” Soon after that, he publicly asserted that Saddam was trying to obtain aluminum tubes that could only be used for enriching uranium for weapons. And he also publicly cited a report that one of the 9/11 ringleaders had met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague.....

None of this was true. And **** Cheney’s lies were not the result of intelligence failures. US intelligence over the previous year had assessed that Saddam did not have a worrisome WMD program. Government scientists had concluded that the aluminum tubes in question were not usable for weapon-grade enrichment. And the CIA had discredited that Prague report. Yet none of this inhibited Cheney and President George W. Bush.....The invasion of Iraq toppled Saddam’s dictatorship but it yielded a geo-strategic and deadly mess in the region. About 200,000 Iraqi civilians died in the ensuing years due to the war. More than 4,000 American soldiers lost their lives in the war....

One lesson of the Iraq war is that a big lie can work. Liz Cheney, who was deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs during this stretch, supported the war—and has defended it ever since. (She co-wrote a 2015 book with her dad on US foreign policy.) She even insisted that one of the main lies of the Bush-Cheney fraudulent case for war—that there had been a significant connection between al-Qaeda and Iraq—was true. (She also hawkishly defended a sordid chapter of that sordid war: torture, saying it was “libelous” to call waterboarding “torture.”)....

....There was another odious lie that Liz Cheney also defended—or played footsie with: the racist conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama was born in Kenya. Asked about birtherism in 2009, she replied, “I think the Democrats have got more crazies than the Republicans do. But setting that aside, one of the reasons you see people so concerned about this, I think this issue is, people are uncomfortable with having for the first time ever, I think, a president who seems so reluctant to defend the nation overseas.” Without endorsing the conspiratorial and disproven details of this nutty notion, Cheney was providing moral support to its adherents. (Trump’s championship of this lie helped turn him into a right-wing hero and set up the foundation for his 2016 presidential bid.)....

....Still, Liz Cheney deserves hardly a cheer, for it ought to be remembered that Trump is pushing his Big Lie in the wake of other big lies—and that Cheney, her father, and so many other Republicans not so long ago did much to blaze the path for the dangerous political villainy she now decries.....

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney’s Stand Had Nothing to Do With Principle. Ask Her Sister.

“Liz Cheney is a leader of great courage, patriotism, and integrity,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said with a straight face on Wednesday after Republicans dismissed Cheney from her post by a voice vote...In the run-up to Cheney’s ouster, MSNBC pundit Nicolle Wallace slammed the GOP for coming after Cheney “for her refusal to go along with the Big Lie and the assault on democracy it has ushered in.” Wallace, of course, a dedicated salesperson of the Iraq War, having served as the Bush administration’s communications director, knows as much about the Big Lie as Cheney....

...This is a person who launched a campaign to represent Wyoming in Congress with a Facebook post geotagged McLean, Virginia, her real home. On the trail, a reporter noticed that her hands had turned blue, stained from rubbing them against the brand new blue jeans she’d bought to play the part of cowboy....Cheney knows lies both big and small. She, with Wallace, was a leading booster of her father’s war. She has shown no remorse or reflection over the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Quite the contrary, it was Trump’s attack on the decision to go to war in Iraq, and later his insistence on exiting Afghanistan, that triggered her most deeply and drove her to work publicly with Democrats to keep the occupation going.....

....The Cheney wing of the Republican Party has betrayed nothing but contempt for democracy around the globe in the period since World War II, reveling in the overthrow of democratically elected leaders, only approving of elections if they are won by the candidate preferred in Washington — or if the promise of them can be used to justify an invasion. Liz Cheney’s father, **** Cheney, served as deputy chief of staff and chief of staff to President Gerald Ford as his administration welcomed the rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Spare us the paeons to democracy....

....For years, the Cheney family stood apart from the Republican Party’s culture war.... even as the Bush-Cheney administration cynically deployed opposition to marriage equality as a tool to drive out the evangelical vote for the party.....Running for Senate in 2013, Liz Cheney threw her sister overboard. “I love Mary very much, I love her family very much. This is just an issue on which we disagree,” she told viewers of Fox News.....“Liz — this isn’t just an issue on which we disagree, you’re just wrong — and on the wrong side of history,” Mary, a Republican operative herself, shot back on Facebook. “Liz has been a guest in our home, has spent time and shared holidays with our children,” Mary’s wife Heather Poe wrote. “To have her now say she doesn’t support our right to marry is offensive to say the least....”

.....Liz Cheney’s own political predicament is a function of her own political miscalculations. Cheney, like many in both parties, sensed that Trump would lose in 2020, House Republicans would lose seats, and a reckoning would give an opportunity for her wing of the party to rise again. She spent 2020 positioning herself against Trump. ....Her calculation that Trump would lose panned out, but Trump managed to draw out millions of new voters, and House Republicans picked up seats instead of losing them. Trump’s hold on the party was secure....Cheney wasn’t wrong to condemn the incitement and the assault on the Capitol, but doing so was the only option left to her. None of this is about principle....

This is about power. The Trump wing of the party has it, and Cheney wants it. ... If Democrats think she would be any less dangerous with it in her hands, that the world would be any safer, they’re wrong....

Direct Headline: Congresswoman Cheney Votes to Fund Border Wall

“Tonight, Republicans in the House voted to provide the funding necessary to secure our border, including by building a border wall. It is time for the Democrats in the House and Senate to stop playing political games and do their duty by voting to provide resources to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, drugs and human trafficking across our southern border. House Republicans take seriously our constitutional obligation to provide resources to defend and protect this nation, and we hope our colleagues on the other side of the aisle will work with us to do what’s right for our nation.”

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney sells out gay sister for shot at U.S. Senate seat

What kind of woman sells out her sister for a shot at a U.S. Senate seat?...How do you tell your sister how happy you are she is marrying her longtime girlfriend, embrace her wife as a member of the family, their children as your niece and nephew, then turn around and tell the nation you oppose gay marriage?

For this alone, Liz Cheney, who is running for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in Wyoming against a longtime conservative incumbent, deserves to lose.... Liz appeared on “Fox News Sunday” and noted, again, that despite what her opponent claims, she opposes gay marriage....

“Liz has been a guest in our home, has spent time and shared holidays with our children, and when Mary and I got married in 2012 - she didn’t hesitate to tell us how happy she was for us.....To have her now say she doesn’t support our right to marry is offensive to say the least.....I can’t help but wonder how Liz would feel if as she moved from state to state, she discovered that her family was protected in one but not the other......I always thought freedom meant freedom for EVERYONE.....Liz--this isn’t just an issue on which we disagree--you’re just wrong--and on the wrong side of history.”....

.....Supporters of her opponent, Sen. John Enzi, say her opposition to gay marriage represents a flip-flop, part of her strategy to run to his right and appeal to Tea Party Republicans in the overwhelmingly conservative state. They’ve declared her “wrong for Wyoming.”....

But opposing gay marriage is the very definition of discriminating against people because of their sexual orientation.....

"Ayo, lesson here, Bey.... You come at the king, you best not miss."   - Omar Little, The Wire & @krista4

The major problem I see with Liz Cheney is that most of the radical leftists who extol her virtues would  never vote for her in a general election. - I love you so much because you hate Donald Trump! ( But I won't ever vote for you! )

Would the establishment Democrats and the radical left and some of you here love her based on her actual public policy positions if she secured the RNC ticket for the nomination in a general cycle? How many radical leftists here actually know any of Cheney's policy positions?

The deeper you dive inside Liz Cheney's political career and failures, ironically the more she looks and sounds like Donald Trump.

She attacked Trump because she knew her political career ceiling was capped ( stuck in 3rd place) and her opportunities to move ahead were shrinking. Her goal is to be POTUS and the practical Republican/Democrat on and off changeover in power means by the time Trump is out again for good, and there is a Team Blue transition period, she'll be too old to still be a viable candidate.

What makes Liz Cheney like Trump?

- She didn't earn anything herself, she soaked in privilege and entitlement, and rode the coat tails of her father and his wealth and was supported by the legacy her father created and protected by his loyalists.

- She's a flip flopper. For Trump, it was becoming a Republican.  For Cheney, it was torching her own blood sister over LGBT rights and Same Sex Marriage.

- She wants a Border Wall and aggressive enforcement against illegal immigration.

- She hobnobs and is encircled with Big Donor special interests and is beholden to Big Corporate Overlords.

- She has public policy that lines up with Trump. She voted for The Big Cheeto's policies 93 percent of the time, voted to backed his Border Wall, voted twice to table his 2016 era first impeachment, has anti-LGBT accusations on her political jacket,  voted to wipe out the ACA, voted towards anti-abortion policy, voted to show classically anti-immigration and pro 2A leanings.

- She pushed Obama's birther conspiracy for political advantage.

- She is accused of being racist and bigoted against minorities, immigrants and Muslims.

- She is known for her caustic abrasive attacking style of speech - calling the Democrats the Party of "infanticide"

- She is Pro Torture

- She is seen as a shameless grifter that snorted up campaign dollars by running a counter narrative media campaign about being wrongfully "expelled". It was actually to her advantage in raising her public profile to be seen as the GOP's scapegoat as the majority of the MSM leans hard left.

- She opposes progressive abortion rights

But the big problem was that Trump was in her way and clearly not a warhawk. When Trump denounced her father's blood thirsty ineptitude as VPOTUS during the W. Bush regime, that was just too much for her pride and against her profit margin with the Military Industrial Complex.

The only saving grace for Liz Cheney is she's slightly better off than her J6 Committee mate, Adam Kinzinger. As for Kinzinger, he voted along the lines of Trump, just like Cheney, when it suited his best then current political position. Then he realized by 2020, the establishment Democrats were going to gerrymander the living crap out of Illinois. And he knew there was no chance to stop it given Pritzker's endless dark money warchest. So he turned about face and kept hammering Trump hoping it would end up being rewarded by leaving him his seat. Instead Team Blue thanked him by making sure his seat was eliminated off the map. Kinzinger bet wrong just like Liz Cheney bet wrong. (She thought J6 would tank Trump much further and clear a path for her to be the new dominant power player in the GOP) Their Anti Trump narrative was a last ditch attempt for both to not get wiped out from sitting elected office. The former 16th for Kinzinger operated geographically like a ring, that shrouded near the Wisconsin and Indiana border.  In a mostly blue stronghold, Kinzinger knew his district was a ripe fat target for being shredded apart and his failures become a preview for Liz Cheney soon about to be roasted by new Wyoming contender and Trump backed Harriet Hageman.

Liz Cheney badly miscalculated a power move against Trump, much in same narcissist vein that The Big Cheeto miscalculated how badly J6 would hurt what was left of his slim political future.

I see radical leftists here extol the virtues of Liz Cheney all the time. But why? She's so much more like Trump than people are willing to investigate and realize.

I'll leave this here for others to discuss.

CONTEXTUAL (Liz Cheney The Bloodthirsty Pro Torture Warhawk):

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney Is Not Your Friend

Just because she’s not getting along with Trump and Kevin McCarthy doesn’t make the current Cheney any less of a vitriol-spewing extremist....The most dangerous game in Washington is the one that starts with an assumption that “the enemy of my enemy in my friend.”...That’s the rationale a lot of otherwise reasonable people are employing as they discuss their newfound affection for Liz Cheney....But Cheney is no friend of Democrats, no friend of fairness and decency in American politics, and no friend of the truth...She’s a rigidly right-wing Republican who got on the wrong side of a power struggle with her fellow rigidly right-wing Republicans....

.... The explanation for her perilous circumstance is simple enough: What was once a party where the name “Cheney” had a lot of sway is now a party where the only name that has any sway is “Trump.”...Liz Cheney is not some moderate maverick Republican who is breaking with her party on policy. She is a right-wing warmonger whose crude attacks on people of color, immigrants, Muslims, and progressives carry the same venom as those of the most extreme members of her caucus—and of the 45th president, whose election in 2016 and reelection in 2020 she enthusiastically supported....But don’t think for a second that she’s standing above the political fray on the high ground of morality. She’s a hyper-partisan, hyper-ideological political strategist who is playing the long game, just as her father did over the course of a political career that began in the Nixon White House during the Vietnam War (in which he avoided serving by collecting multiple draft deferments), extended through the George H.W. Bush White House during the Persian Gulf War (which he mismanaged as a bumbling secretary of defense whose service to the military-industrial complex was so subservient that he ended up as the bumbling CEO of Halliburton), and that ended in the George W. Bush White House during the Iraq War (into which he steered the United States with outrageous lies and a promise that American troops would be “greeted as liberators”)...

....The notion that Liz Cheney is the voice of reason and responsibility is not supported by her record. She’s a fierce militarist, busily proposing new sanctions on Iran, and condemning President Biden’s plans to end the forever war in Afghanistan as “reckless.” She’s sold out to the defense contractors; in March, she ripped House Democrats for making the “grave mistake” of proposing even modest cuts in the bloated Pentagon budget. And she’s every bit as prone to cast jaw-droppingly extreme votes as her colleagues: vigorously opposing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, attacking even the mildest responses to gun violence as “an assault…on the freedom of the people in Wyoming,” and dismissing the popular American Rescue Plan as a “dangerous” package of “far-left priorities” that “will allow taxpayer money to fund abortion” and “provide stimulus checks for illegal immigrants, criminals, and even terrorists....”

....Two days before the 2020 presidential election, Cheney said Vice President Kamala Harris “sounds like Karl Marx.” Why? The Democrat had dared to suggest that equitable treatment of disadvantaged Americans might involve “giving people the resources and the support they need” to compete on an equal footing with wealthier Americans....Cheney also accused Harris of supporting infanticide—announcing on national television after Biden had selected the California senator as his running mate that Harris backed “abortion up until the ninth month and beyond.” Cheney then proceeded to dismiss Harris’s qualifications—as a former elected prosecutor, state attorney general, and US senator—by claiming that “Joe Biden clearly decided that he was going to make a choice based on somebody’s gender, based on their race and based on his need to placate the very-far socialist left of his party....”

Cheney has reserved her most venomous language for the first two Muslim women to serve in the US House of Representatives. Her targeting of Representatives Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) borders on “obsession....she goes to such extremes that her rhetoric "smacks either of a deep-seated anti-Arab/Muslim bigotry or crass politics designed to prey on the bigotry of your ‘base.’ In either case it’s disgraceful. Your party’s been playing this game for a decade. Shame....”

Direct Headline: Liz and **** Cheney Are No American Heroes

If they’re the conscience of the Republican Party, then the post-Trump era will be just as destructive as the past four years were.... Leading the charge, according to some dewy-eyed commentators, are former Vice President **** Cheney and his scion, Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming....There are indeed signs of fracture in the GOP, and it may well expand into a real fissure—perhaps, a militant Trumpist faction versus a pro-corporate, neocon wing. But a resurgence of the latter is hardly cause for celebration....

...But it’s Cheney’s 54-year-old daughter, Liz, the third-highest-ranking Republican in the House, who has captured the hearts of Never Trumpers with her statement, on Tuesday, condemning the president and supporting his removal from office....The announcement attracted even more acclaim from gullible political commentators than her father’s epistolary flourish had. Rubin wrote that Cheney “may have redeemed herself and a segment of the Republican Party,”...Other members of this chorus included Chris Cillizza, who called Cheney “the conscience” of the Republicans. And The Bulwark—the Never Trump publication founded by Bill Kristol, who could be described as an accessory to the disasters of the Bush years—said it was “Liz Cheney’s finest hour,” claiming she put the country’s interests over her own political ambition...s.

Cheney, a former State Department official who has served in the House since 2019, has clashed with Trump before. Along with members of both parties, she criticized Trump’s proposed military withdrawal from various theaters. She supported mask-wearing and quarantines designed to keep the virus in check. She opposed Republican efforts to overturn the election results. And there’s little doubt that Trump made Cheney a target for potentially violent attack. “We got to get rid of the weak congresspeople, the ones that aren’t any good, the Liz Cheneys of the world,” said Trump during the rally that preceded the Capitol riot. But Cheney and Trump sometimes see eye to eye—notably, on the matter of resuming torture of military detainees....

....As for Cheney herself, she has called Democrats “the party of anti-Semitism, the party of infanticide, the party of socialism”—hardly the stuff of a good-faith oppositionist with whom Democrats can cooperate on matters of larger concern to the country. The Cheneys’ interests may partly align with Democrats’ at the moment, but the family has, in its decades in the halls of American power, contributed little to the common good and done tremendous damage to human rights (to say nothing of humans themselves). The Trump era has been hell. But so would Cheneyism ....

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney: Democrats Have Become The Party Of Anti-Semitism, Infanticide, And Socialism

Rep. Liz Cheney, the third-ranking Republican in the House, told NBC's "Meet The Press" on Sunday that since taking the majority, Democrats have become the party of "anti-Semitism," "infanticide," and "socialism."

...."The Democrats have been in charge for about 2 1/2 months in the House. In that time, they’ve been the party of anti-Semitism, the party of infanticide, the party of socialism. It’s really time for the Democrats, the leadership in that party, to stop it, to stand up and to act worthy, frankly, of the trust the American people have placed in them..."

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney Wants to Make Torture Great Again

She’s back in Washington, and she’s eager to pick up where her dad left off....When Liz Cheney returned to her ancestral home state of Wyoming in 2012, she expected to be greeted as a liberator....But in the rush to jump-start her political career, Cheney neglected to inform the man she was angling to replace—Mike Enzi, her father’s fly-fishing buddy and the state’s senior senator. Enzi had been planning to retire after 2014, and had Cheney asked for his blessing, he might have stepped aside. When she surprised him by jumping into the race, he decided his retirement could wait.....

....Things descended from there. A local newspaper revealed that Cheney had obtained a Wyoming fishing license without fulfilling the residency requirements. Robocalls alleged that she supported same-sex marriage, prompting her to proclaim that she did not, and provoking her sister, Mary, who is gay, to denounce her on Facebook and cancel their Christmas plans. Cheney found herself in the crosshairs of a bitter insurgency with few allies on her side. She dropped out of the race before the primary.....In November, bolstered by a few mended fences and backed by family friends such as Karl Rove and Donald Rumsfeld, Cheney easily won her race to succeed retiring Republican Rep. Cynthia Lummis for Wyoming’s lone House seat, which was once held by her dad. After eight long years in exile, the Cheneys are back in government, and it might be a while before they go away again.....

Cheney, a veteran of the Bush administration who has inherited her father’s hawkish views, is returning to a Washington, DC, far different from the one the former vice president left eight years ago. After the missing weapons of mass destruction, the Iraqi insurgency, Abu Ghraib, and the other foreign policy and national security fiascoes of the 2000s, neoconservatives lost their grip on the Republican Party....Then Donald Trump blew up everything. With Trump, the GOP coalesced around a candidate who’d lambasted George W. Bush for invading Iraq (despite once supporting the invasion) and flirted with 9/11 truthers. He played footsie with Vladimir Putin and, according to the National Security Agency’s director, got an intentional boost from Russian hacking—all while chastising Hillary Clinton for not being tough enough. He opposed military intervention in Syria but promised to “bomb the ####” out of ISIS and, for good measure, to take its oil. He enthusiastically defended torture and said Edward Snowden should be killed. Several veterans of the Bush administration, including Colin Powell, endorsed Clinton. (The ex-president himself said he did not vote for Trump.)

...Unlike many members of the Bush administration, Cheney was also an unabashed supporter of Donald Trump.... Even as her father’s dark shadow receded after 2008, she emerged as one of Obama’s most relentless national security critics. With a fervor that felt personal, she pilloried the president for changing course on torture and Iraq. But unlike many members of the Bush administration, Cheney was also an unabashed supporter of Trump, embracing some of his more heretical views on trade and immigration and warning that Clinton was little more than a “felon.”  In her first week on Capitol Hill, she has emerged as one of the most vocal defenders of President Trump’s plan to bring back torture. She may just be a bridge by which the neocon establishment returns from exile....

...Although her campaign ads touted her family’s deep Western roots, Cheney spent all but two years of her childhood in the suburbs of northern Virginia. ...Her senior political science thesis, “Evolution of Presidential War Powers,” argued that Congress had only limited authority to restrain the executive branch on matters of military intervention. “The president’s duty to protect national security sometimes comes before his responsibility to keep Congress informed,” she wrote. A decade and a half later, the Bush-Cheney administration would take much the same position....

....After college, Cheney entered the family business, taking a job at the US Agency for International Development during the first Bush administration and working under the direction of Richard Armitage, a future architect of the invasion of Iraq. When **** Cheney chose himself as George W. Bush’s running mate in 2000, Liz left her job in international finance to join the campaign. ...But if anything, she was just as much of a hardliner as he was. According to a recent biography, George H.W. Bush called Liz “tough” and speculated that she’d pushed her father to become even more hawkish....Her first splash came three months after the inauguration, when the Justice Department released new information on the Bush administration’s use of torture. Cheney took the move, along with Obama’s efforts to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, as a personal insult to her family’s legacy. On cable news programs and at conservative conferences, Cheney became her father’s defender in chief. “When you see the current administration making decisions that really do have the potential to make us less safe, in those circumstances, I would say the vice president doesn’t think that there’s an obligation to be silent,” she said in her fiery debut as a conservative talking head on MSNBC. “There are important reasons why we put policies in place. They clearly kept us safe for seven years.” She co-authored her dad’s memoir, a spirited defense of his tenure as one of America’s least popular vice presidents, and even half-seriously floated him as a possible presidential candidate....

....The chaos of the Trump campaign shattered some of the party’s long-held tenets, but neocon dead-enders who see the president as a blank slate sense an opportunity to return to influence. Cheney has already begun assembling a coalition of the willing. In the final days of the election, she started writing personal checks to Republican candidates in swing districts, future colleagues who just might remember the favor sometime in the near future. Even a Cheney can dabble in soft power now and then....

Hitting for the cycle.

Direct HeadlineLGBTQ community has reason to doubt Liz Cheney's new support for gay rights

Cheney voted against gay rights legislation seven months ago.....During an interview Sunday on “60 Minutes,” the conservative politician from one of America’s most influential political families did a surprising turnabout when she came out in support of LGBTQ people — a community she’s discriminated against for years for her own political gain.....In February, the House, in a 224-206 vote, passed the Equality Act, a measure that would provide the strongest level of protections for LGBTQ folks ever in America, sending the bill over to a Senate where there’s not enough support to pass it. Three Republicans in the House voted in favor of the Equality Act. Cheney was not one of them.....

Direct Headline: Why Liz Cheney Can’t Rely On Democrats To Save Her In Wyoming’s Republican Primary

On March 8, Wyoming’s legislature scrapped a bill seeking to end the state’s “crossover voting” provision. That rule permits voters to switch parties on Election Day, which could allow registered Democrats and other non-Republicans to change their registration to support Cheney in the Aug. 16 GOP primary. The legislature’s deliberations over the bill, which Trump had supported, sparked a raft of headlines raising the prospect of crossover voters being key to Cheney’s survival......

The reality is otherwise: Only Republicans can really save Cheney’s political future. If she’s counting on anyone else, then she’s probably done for....The vast majority (70 percent) of voters in the state are registered Republicans. And in midterm years (like 2022), an even larger share of the state’s primary voters have cast ballots in GOP nomination battles,....But in a state where the Republican presidential nominee usually wins 65 to 70 percent of the vote, it’s clear that most of those primary voters are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans or at least lean toward the GOP....But this still means that Cheney must remain competitive among Republicans to even allow for a scenario where crossover voters could conceivably put her over the top.....

Direct HeadlineLiz Cheney Rakes In More Money From Northern Virginia Than From Her Home State, Wyoming

Only about 2 percent of contributors to Liz Cheney’s re-election campaign were from her home state, Wyoming....Cheney’s re-election bid is also being financed by the same Democrat donors who bankrolled the Lincoln Project. Her first-quarter filing for this year showed little difference, with Cheney raking more from her “constituents” in northern Virginia, where she spends much of her time, than the constituents who first sent her to Washington in 2016.....The numbers come at little surprise as Cheney, deeply unpopular in Wyoming, where the GOP no longer recognizes her a Republican, snubbed constituents to mingle with reporters on a February visit. Instead, Cheney called the Wyoming voters she ignored “crazies” in an interview with The New York Times.....

The math doesn't lie — and neither do Cheney’s actions on the ground in recent months....Just as obvious is that Cheney needs Democrats and independents to change their party registration and cast their vote for her in the Aug. 16 primary. Her campaign is loath to talk strategy publicly, but the math doesn’t lie — and neither do Cheney’s actions on the ground here in recent months.....She has shunned town halls and other voter forums in Wyoming’s overwhelmingly red counties in favor of controlled events.....“She’s been MIA since Jan. 6. And what we all truly believe is that the Wyoming seat is a stepping stone to running for president in 2024 and she needs to get Trump out of the way. And to raise money, she’s using the anti-Trump commentary,”...Wyoming political strategists say the only path to victory for Cheney is with the help of Democrats and independents.....Cheney allies are hopeful that crossover voters will bail her out this time. They are counting on a primary with at least two pro-Trump GOP candidates that will divide the anti-Cheney vote. With the help of even half of the 73,000 Democrats who voted for Biden in 2020, they believe Cheney could pull it off.....

Illinois Democrats eliminated Mr. Kinzinger’s district in a new congressional map. He was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald J. Trump...Mr. Kinzinger’s electoral fate was largely sealed late Thursday when Illinois Democrats, in an 11th-hour vote shortly before midnight, adopted a new congressional map that eliminated the Republican-majority district Mr. Kinzinger represented for the last decade....The new Illinois congressional map, which Gov. J.B. Pritzker is expected to sign, is among the most gerrymandered to be adopted so far this year. It creates 14 districts in which Democrats are likely to win the general election, and just three Republican-majority districts....Illinois Democrats created districts that dart across the state to connect the maximum number of Democratic voters. They did this in order to squeeze 14 congressional seats for their party from the state, with little regard for how connected the communities may be...

When Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) loses her leadership post in the House of Representatives, as she is likely to do this week, the door to becoming the first female Republican speaker will have closed. But another has opened. She may have started down a path to being the first woman Republican president....

....Cheney is only 54 years old. These days that makes her practically a teenager in a country that has seen two presidents in their seventies, two Senate leaders in their seventies and a House of Representatives leadership team in their eighties. In other words, she’s got time on her side....

...Which leads to the second argument for why Liz Cheney could be the first female Republican president.  The civil war going on in the Republican party is not a war over big philosophical ideas about the future of government. ....Cheney has boldly staked out leadership of the post-Trump Republican party. She’s a real conservative—Democrats who like her opposition to Trump will never like her politics. Freed of the need to play internal House politics she can now go about the process of building a post-Trump Republican party. Breaking with your party is a bold move. But Bill Clinton led the “New Democrats” in 1992 and became president for two terms. Liz Cheney has set herself up for the job....

Just wanted to point out that this is pretty misleading. Kinzinger basically agreed with Trump on everything except the anti-democratic parts. The three votes from the 117th congress are all about Trump trying to overturn the election. For that, he gets basically excommunicated from the Republican party.

Liz  Cheney isn't responsible for  her father actions. And so she supported the war in Iraq. The majority of people ( including myself) and Congress did at the time. And the fact that she was opposed to same sex marriage back in 2013 was in line with a lot of people including some Democrats. She admitted this year she was wrong on that and her sister and her are now very close. What you have here ( once again) is very, very long winded nothingness.

I disagree with quite a few of Cheney's positions but support her courage and integrity for putting country before party. She will not be re-elected. She put country before her own self interest as to staying in the House and in power. The complete opposite of President Trump. I'll be damned if I will criticize her for that.

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney's smug, self-satisfied con job: Don't fall for it

....It's a con job, and the chief con artist running the whole game is Liz Cheney. She was right there at Trump's side for 3.9 years as he loaded up the Supreme Court with right-wing lunatics and ripped children from the arms of migrant mothers at the border and then proceeded to lose them in a miasma of botched red tape and incompetence. She was all-in for that crime against humanity. She was all-in for the tax cut for millionaires and billionaires like her father who used his political connections to make millions as chairman and CEO of Halliburton and then turned around and loaded up Halliburton's coffers by being the chief architect behind the war in Iraq.....

.....She was all-in for Trump's absurd wall on the border, another boondoggle for Republican contractors that has done precisely nothing — zero, nada, zip — to stop migrants from crossing the border who are seeking to flee oppressive regimes in Central and South America. She is to this very day all-in on every attack on women's rights Trump enabled with his Supreme Court appointments. including the disastrous decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. She was all-in on Trump's loon-laden appointments to his Cabinet, all-in on his assaults on the environment and the regulatory powers of the EPA and other important agencies. She is still all-in on the complete legacy of Donald Trump, with the sole exception of his attempted coup after he lost the election of 2020.....

And how about "rule of law" hero Pat Cipollone? He sat there in his White House counsel's office for more than two years while Trump told lie after lie after lie and eviscerated every single tradition and norm that has helped keep our nation running for 240 years. He supported Trump's disastrous policies at the border, including taking children from migrant parents and then losing them. He defended Trump at his first impeachment trial for soliciting foreign interference in the 2020 election, when Trump attempted to extort a foreign leader and obstructed justice by instructing officials to ignore subpoenas and refuse testimony. Cipollone authored an eight-page letter to Democratic leaders refusing to cooperate in any way with the impeachment inquiry and accused Democrats of "violating the Constitution, the rule of law and every past precedent" in their investigation of Trump. He represented Trump at his second impeachment trial for inciting the riot on Jan. 6. He provided legal cover for everything Trump did to attempt to "deconstruct the administrative state," in the immortal words of Steve Bannon.....

....In short, Cipollone enabled Donald Trump right up to his attempt to overturn the election of 2020, and then he refused to cooperate with the  Jan. 6 committee until testimony by witnesses like Cassidy Hutchinson forced him to meet with the committee, and then he still refused to answer questions about what Donald Trump did on Jan. 6 on spurious executive privilege and attorney-client grounds, although he knows perfectly well there is no privilege if you  witness a crime being committed, which Cipollone certainly did if he was present in the room with Trump on Jan. 6. And he was. ....And Cipollone was the chief usher to Trump's right-wing theocratic appointments to the Supreme Court, and I'm sure his buddies in the Federalist Society have patted him on the back so much he's worn out a couple of suit jackets.....

....Liz Cheney has spent about a quarter of her time on the dais of the Jan. 6 committee hearings reminding us that all the witnesses called before the committee to testify about Trump have been Republicans. Oh, boy, does she beat that tired-### drum, like it's supposed to mean something. Of course they're Republicans! They were working for Donald Trump! And we're supposed to be impressed that responding to subpoenas, they showed up and in many, many cases reluctantly revealed a few "truths" about Trump's lies and illegal behavior after he lost the election in November? We're supposed to be impressed that they "stood up for the rule of law" after participating in an administration whose hallmark was breaking laws and norms for four long years?

....At the close of Thursday's hearing, Cheney gave one of her self-justifying-reach-around-and-pat-myself-on-the-back-like-I'm-triple-jointed statements, and this one was a doozy. She included this gem, which apparently we're supposed to get down on bended knee to thank her for: "As January 6 approached, I circulated a memo to my Republican colleagues explaining why our congressional proceedings to count electoral votes could not be used to change the outcome of the election."....Well, goodness gracious, sakes alive! She wrote a memo! Even thinking there was a need to tell her "Republican colleagues" something that is written into the Constitution should have been all the evidence she needed that the Republican Party had so completely gone off the rails that she didn't belong there any longer. But did she resign and become an independent? Noooooo. She started laying plans for a future she thought she could see, even if none of her "colleagues" could.....

....Liz Cheney and the  "adults in the room" in the Republican Party are laying the groundwork for the party to survive after Trump is finally put in jail or in some other yet-to-be-determined way expunged from their midst. Liz Cheney is **** Cheney's daughter. She is a lifetime right-wing Republican functionary. She wants there still to be a Republican Party so they can continue to grease the skids for billionaires to make more billions and millionaires to make more millions like her dad did. ....Liz Cheney learned at her father's knee how the Republican Party works. It's who they are and who they have always been. As Gore Vidal used to call them, they are the "Owners." All the rest of this stuff, like screaming about transgender bathrooms and vaccine mandates and school choice and even their anti-abortion hallelujah chorus with fundamentalist Christians is crap. It's red meat for the rubes. Do you really think they care if their wife's or mistress' hairdresser marries his longtime partner? Do you think if a Cheney granddaughter got raped at college and got pregnant that she wouldn't be able to get an abortion? Do you think if a Cheney granddaughter just wanted an abortion because she broke up with the boyfriend who got her pregnant that she wouldn't be put aboard a biz-jet and flown across state borders to the best abortion doctor in the country? ...Of course not. They'll always protect the Owners and their mansions and their yachts and their Gulfstreams and their ability to avail themselves of abortion services or even contraception if it comes to that. They'll always cut taxes for each other even if it means that poor people get poorer and that children don't get fed at lunchtime in public schools and migrants continue to die in tractor-trailers in Texas....

They don't give a #### about the poor. As Liz Cheney is at last admitting, they don't give a #### about Trump, either, so long as they've got their tax cuts and their millions and billions and they can keep the minimum wage at $7.25 an hour and maintain their control over red-state governments. Trump was just a hireling. He strayed off the reservation, and they grew tired of his gross lack of taste and slovenly appearance. So they're serving up a few schmucks with smug grins on their faces to tell us what a bad guy they suddenly discovered he is, after his usefulness to them came to an end.....

Courage and integrity?

What often happens here in the PSF is you have folks who will lavish anyone who denounces Donald Trump no matter what. No matter the carnage they've created otherwise. They'll lavish them even if it's someone they'd never ever vote for in a general election.

To assess Cheney is operating with "no self interest" is complete bizarre and out of touch with basic political reality.

Cheney got pushed out by a younger more dynamic riser in Elise Stefanik. That's common in many industries, not just politics. Cheney had no chance to win in the Senate and she had no chance at a Governorship and her political star was fading fast as her timeline to higher office was extinguishing.

She went after Trump because Trump was in her way and she thought this kind of move would propel her to POTUS contention. The major problem is she's totally incompetent. Her entire career is based on the protection and advancement of her father's old allies and connections.

None of these politicians put country over Party. They will do whatever it takes to keep getting reelected and to try to move up the political food chain.

This feels an awful lot like attacking the messenger.

I'm not one to defend Cheney.  She is a carpet bagger and carries the torch for the awful conservative principles that I have shunned.  I wish better for my fellow Wyomingites.

But she's doing the right thing today, instead of cowering and refusing to support democracy like her brethren in the House and Senate.  That's something.

It's worth noting how rare it is for a republican to act in their own interest and the interest of the country at the same time.

We’re going to see more of this. It’s very important for many of those who have supported Trump to take down Cheney, find a way to paint her as self-serving, a hypocrite, or corrupt, anything to avoid the reality that she is acting upon principle and integrity and therefore they are not.

Criticizing one of the most conservative representatives in the House for remaining committed to the democratic process is a really bad look for those doing it. You might as well come out and say that loyalty to Donald Trump takes precedence over all else.

It also demonstrates why so many of us fear another Trump presidency.

Dec. 6, 2017 Motion to table articles of impeachment against President Trump (364-58) - YES

******

Liz Cheney voted to table Trump's first impeachment.

Since so many of the radical leftists here kept beating that drum about Russian interference in the 2020 cycle, how does boil down to "integrity"?

Many of you woke zealots can't have it both ways.

You and others can't spend forever in the PSF smearing Trump and all the allegations within the first impeachment while denouncing all Republicans who supported him during this time THEN MAGICALLY decide none of that counts when Liz Cheney is shown to have done it too. So she can be a beacon of "integrity" apparently.

Feel free to explain that. Any of it.

Usually comes back to abortion.

Some real nasty people hide behind a pro-life stance to get people to vote for vile human beings.

So beyond just voting to table Trump's impeachment in 2017, LIZ CHENEY VOTED FOR IT AGAIN IN 2018.

DID YOU ACTUALLY JUST INVOKE A J6 WHATABOUTISM WHEN LIZ CHENEY VOTED TO TRY TO GET TRUMP OUT OF IMPEACHMENT? TWICE.

You say nasty people hide behind a pro life stance. You mean like Liz Cheney? Who smeared her own sister for a same sex marriage and has long supported the overturning of Roe v Wade?

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney Defends Birthers On Larry King (VIDEO)

....The Obama "birther" movement has sucked in a few Republican congressmen. But Tuesday night the conspiracy theorists who think our president isn't a citizen got a major boost from none other than Elizabeth Cheney, former State Department official and vice-presidential daughter.

Birthers took hits on television earlier in the day, after a YouTube video of one such extremist confronting Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) at a public event. CNN's Rick Sanchez spent a whole segment debunking the fantasy, and MSNBC's Chris Matthews confronted a congressman sponsoring a bill that "would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificate."

Cheney was apparently unmoved. Appearing on "Larry King," she dismissed the Castle video and suggested that people have reason to question Obama's national loyalty....."I think the Democrats have got more crazies than the Republicans do," Cheney said. "But setting that aside, one of the reasons you see people so concerned about this, I think this issue is, people are uncomfortable with having for the first time ever, I think, a president who seems so reluctant to defend the nation overseas ..."

Asked directly by King if she actually thought Obama was born in Kenya, Cheney responded, "No, I'm not saying that." But then she kept going. "I'm saying that people are fundamentally uncomfortable and fundamentally I think increasingly uncomfortable with an American president who seems to be afraid to defend America, stand up for what we believe in."

Fellow guest James Carville seemed momentarily flabbergasted. "These poor pathetic people are believing stuff just like Ms. Cheney tonight," he concluded. "She refuses to say this is ludicrous because she wants these people to believe this."

Direct Headline: Democrats can’t have it both ways about the threat of GOP extremism

In two dramatic hearings — so far — the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has painted a devastating picture.....So why are Democrats and their associated dark-money groups meanwhile spending millions to boost the campaigns of election-denying extremist Republicans in contested primaries?

They include candidates for House, Senate and governor, and some took part in Trump’s “stop the steal” rally on Jan. 6, 2021, though not necessarily in the riot that immediately followed. In Pennsylvania, state legislator Doug Mastriano, a Jan. 6 rally participant, has already won the GOP nomination for governor with an ad boost paid for out of the campaign treasury of the Democratic nominee, state attorney general Josh Shapiro....

The Machiavellian rationale for this little stratagem, documented in Tuesday’s Post by reporter Annie Linskey, is that, come November, Democrats stand a better chance of winning against “ultra MAGA” extremists.....This should stop. The hypocrisy is painfully obvious: How can Democrats portray Trumpism as a danger to democracy while backing its proponents’ campaigns?

....Worse than unprincipled, the strategy is reckless. The premise is that Democrats face a tough midterm political environment but their chances improve against low-quality — i.e., extreme and inexperienced — Republican opponents. Ergo, in Colorado, pro-Democratic groups are spending $2 million in support of Ron Hanks, a Jan. 6 rally participant, who is running against businessman Joe O’Dea, a more mainstream figure who would be harder for Sen. Michael F. Bennet to beat ....

....The risk, of course, is that this is not a relatively ordinary political year — like 2012 — but one in which a true wave election sweeps all of a party’s candidates into office, regardless of their individual attributes. And, with President Biden’s job approval rating below 40 percent, according to FiveThirtyEight, 2022 looks like a Republican tsunami. Election analyst Sean Trende recently told the Lobby Shop podcast his models suggest the GOP could emerge with 54 seats in the Senate and, conceivably, 250-odd seats in the House....Waves extend down ballot, into state legislatures and other offices, such as secretary of state, with possible consequences for the election machinery of the 2024 presidential election....

....The bottom line: Democrats cannot control the future, but they can at least keep their principles and practices in sync — and their hands clean....

Are you really going to virtue signal about the 'democratic process' here?

Liz Cheney is a Pro Torture warhawk that wants to build a wall and appears to be a clear enemy to any chance of codifying Roe or something similiar into federal law.

Meanwhile she's hot and heavy in the J6 Select Committee, that keeps shouting about the evils and threat of Donald Trump, while Team Blue is pumping money to get MAGA loyalists to win their primaries.

You want to talk to me about "bad looks"?

Team Blue is spending MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS to show "loyalty" to those who will roll hard lock step with Trump if he retakes 2024 POTUS.

What's the Team Blue message? We don't have faith we can put forward candidates who can win on their own merits. We need to burn trucks of cash during the GOP primaries to get hard line MAGAs into general elections because we are hoping people won't vote for them. But what if they do?

BUT WHAT IF THEY DO?

God forbid Old Man Gekko does something crazy like talk about Liz Cheney in full context across her entire political career and the scandals and issues that follow her. The reason you don't want me to "criticize" Cheney is because it would mean it's obvious that many radical leftists here want to see Trump burn so badly, they have no regard for the actual conduct of people they support holding those torches and pitchforks in the first place.

There are fair questions about Cheney's record to ask if she's a racist, a bigot and a blood thirsty pro war sadist. But apparently none of that counts to many radical leftists here because she decided to denounce Trump after spending most of her time supporting him. While both actions and the flip flop were meant to benefit her own political career.

I've provided more information and more context on Liz Cheney than anyone else here. But you want me silenced because you don't like how the information and context paints you and your unhinged tribalism.

Cheney was the #3 GOP House member and has bona fide conservative credentials - see her voting record and tabling previous Trump impeachment attempts.

Yet, here are conservatives trashing her.  Why?

This thread is the opposite side of the same coin.  GG is trashing Liz because some libs respect her.  Because of her stance on one topic, libs like her and @GordonGekkotrashes her.  It's the same damn thing.

In fact, I'd take it a step further - no lib cared enough to make a thread praising her, citing article after article.  Isn't the existence of this thread a better example of "unhinged tribalism?"

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney’s Husband Is Partner At Law Firm Representing Hunter Biden

By: Tristan Justice August 08, 2022

....Philip Perry, who is married to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, is a partner at the same law firm representing President Joe Biden’s scandal-ridden son, Hunter....The vice president’s 2014 encounter with Chinese energy tycoons marks the fifteenth such meeting with businessmen tied to Hunter Biden’s financial interests, and contradicts Biden’s repeated claims of never discussing business with his son, “or with anyone else.” The first son is currently under federal investigation for money laundering and foreign lobbying.....

.....“What’s more puzzling than her schedule is why Ms. Cheney, who has raised over $13 million, has not poured more money into the race, especially early on when she had an opportunity to define Ms. Hageman,” the paper added. “Ms. Cheney had spent roughly half her war chest as of the start of July, spurring speculation that she was saving money for future efforts against Mr. Trump.”

....The Wyoming congresswoman likely to lose her seat in the next Congress has been laying the foundation for a presidential run in 2024.....

Am I trashing Liz Cheney? I'm pointing out many of the issues that many leftists hate about Donald Trump are similar or the exact same issues that many leftists had with Liz Cheney before she kept denouncing "Orange/Man/Bad" Why did so many of those criticisms from so many of those hard radical leftists magically disappear?

Ronna McDaniel of RNC HQ and Mitch "Cocaine Mitch" McConnell both agreed internally to turn off debates for the 2024 cycle. That's with Democrats. It's unclear on their full position for the primaries when it's Republicans against "Republicans".

How is Liz Cheney going to defend herself when her husband, a partner in the law firm that is hard partisan for Joe Biden, top to bottom, is now knee deep into the entire Hunter Biden scandal?

Do you think voters overall across the country will "respect her" then?

One of the foreign prostitutes that Hunter Biden has on one of his drug fueled orgy videos looks like a minor. If not for the activist complicit left leaning MSM, and Team Blue's influence over most of Big Social Media to suppress the story, do you know how vicious the public response would be if that video went mainstream and viral?

A wealthy privileged white crack head who has soaked up all the benefits of his father's political career and protection and mounting evidence he was his dad's dark money "bag man", on video, smoking crack and nailing an impoverished Third World brown skinned minor, how do you think that's going to look when Liz Cheney's husband is in league with defending that?

Liz Cheney is widely seen by many as a Pro Torture bigoted war hawk who backstabbed her own family for a political talking point, but suddenly she's the darling of the radical left and all is forgiven because it's politically expedient for her to hate Trump now?

Would any of the radical "libs" here "respect her" enough to vote for her in a general election? I didn't think so.

Direct Headline: Liz Cheney warns that GOP "will splinter" if Trump is 2024 nominee

Axios 10/23/22

...If Donald Trump becomes the nominee of the Republican Party in the 2024 election, "the party will shatter," Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said Sunday on "Meet the Press."...Driving the news: "The party has either to come back from where we are right now, which is a very dangerous and toxic place, or the party will splinter and there will be a new conservative party that rises...."

Cheney, who co-chairs the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, said the committee will not allow former President Trump to turn his testimony to the panel into a “circus.”.... "We are going to proceed in terms of the questioning of the former president under oath. [...] It may take multiple days, and it will be done with a level of rigor and discipline and seriousness that it deserves.....”

The big picture: Cheney.... has signaled a possible presidential run in 2024...Pressed to comment on the possibility of Donald Trump running for president in 2024, Cheney said: "We will do whatever it takes. He will not be president again."

"The party has either to come back from where we are right now, which is a very dangerous and toxic place, or the party will splinter and there will be a new conservative party that rises." - Liz Cheney

"I’d suggest Liz Cheney take her desperate grasps for relevance out of Arizona and over to MSNBC where they belong."
- Arizona Republican and current gubernatorial candidate, Kari Lake

Look at Liz Cheney, going after anyone who she felt prevented her rise to Speaker Of The House, not getting an actual Senate seat and to the Office Of The President itself. She's decided Kevin McCarthy, the slam dunk for the SOTH after these Mid Terms, as "Pro Putin", and on what basis? Cheney is a pure war hawk and McCarthy sees no point in a "blank check" for an endless proxy war while actual Americans are suffering economically.

Then Cheney sticks her nose in on Arizona. For what reasons? Because Kari Lake has forced her way onto the VPOTUS short list for Trump. Again, someone else having a better chance at a road to POTUS than her, and the attacks come out.

I don't have a problem with Cheney saying that the GOP needs a division that takes on a different "flavor" of Conservatism. There's nothing wrong with that and such a faction would be a good thing if it operated in an ideal sense. But all her views on that issue only align to any type of faction that will support her for POTUS and more war hawking, not for the overall benefit of the actual Conservative base. Not the "GOP", but actual every day working class Conservatives.

There was a power struggle between Liz Cheney and Elise Stefanik in the House GOP and Cheney lost. Stefanik actually appeals to suburban women and she's younger and without all the legacy baggage of the war hawking and bending the knee to the Military Industrial Complex. It's no one's fault but Cheney's herself that she did not fully capitalize on her father's allies and the "brand name" through her father that gave her a political career in the first place.

Liz Cheney is no victim, she just has the largest case of buyers remorse in the entire country.
