The urgency with which Mike Monroe could make ever leaving him seem disastrous for both parties definitely involved the use of speedballs, and not the Springsteen kind.

There were a couple of compilations released then as well...not sure if we would count those...Bob Dylan Biograph, Best of the Doors, Billy Joel Greatest Hits Vol I/II, Cars Greatest Hits.  I probably listened to these cassettes more than any of the specific ones listed above.

ETA...Just realized Motley Crue's Theater of Pain was an '85 release.  I added it and bumped off Dire Straits Brothers in Arms.

I went for the latter, but pretty similar for me. Still love and listen to those albums...that was all the music that helped formed my current tastes, so yeah- pretty similar.

Going off the school calendar year (Sept. 1985-June 1986).  Looking back, not a tremendous amount of depth. These mostly weren't my speed at the time, but IMO now the best/my favorites:

In retrospect there are some that I appreciate more now than I did back then (e.g. Rumours- Fleetwood Mac, Animals-Pink Floyd, etc)

two glaring omissions on my list, though i will say that leaving off Samhain's "Initium" bothers me more. 

 
TripleA know his stuff! I would replace Tom Petty with Alice in Chains - Dirt, songs from all five of these albums still play regularly on my shuffle.

Looking back on it now ... hip-hop and dance music were pushing metal/hard rock off the stage by my senior year, fulfilling a trend portended by License to Ill two years earlier :

It Takes Two, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
Forever Your Girl, Paula Abdul (No apologies, those tunes were EVERYWHERE that year. And we liked 'em.)

 
I meant to add:

While Appetite for Destruction was -- by the book -- was released in late 1987, it caught on somewhat slowly and had a ton of staying power. Those songs were still part of the essential soundtrack of my senior year, bumping right up against "Patience" of off G'n'R Lies ... which WAS released during my senior year.
