He was a terrible in-game referee and he's even worse as the head of officiating (who the hell thought that was a good idea?!). The NFL should have paid Dean Blandino to stay, he at least knows pass interference when he sees it. He seems so afraid of making the wrong decision that he often just makes no decision.
The NFL should move on from him and add a sky judge to every game. A ref who's not in the mix on the field and can watch things as more of an impartial observer from the box. A sky judge would most likely have caught the time snafu at the end of the first half of the Saints game, and would have easily recognized the PI on Mike Evans by Richard Sherman.
If Al Riveron makes it all 17 weeks there are going to be more blown calls that cost people games that could have been easily corrected by a more competent person.
