Speaking of Ozzy, I'll submit Randy's riff on Over The MountainLove this opening by Jake E Lee - Shot in the Dark
This was great - thx for sharingThe Big 4 (Riff Battle)
Metallica vs. Anthrax vs. Megadeth vs. Slayer
Despite the guitar cover nature of this video, it really shows off how amazing those four bands are/were.
He's essentially the patron saint of this thread.Anything Tony Iommi ever did.
Interesting. I just read that he joined Jethro Tull for a brief moment before rejoining Sabbath.Anything Tony Iommi ever did.
Correct - he was with them for only a few months. But long enough to appear with Tull in The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus.Interesting. I just read that he joined Jethro Tull for a brief moment before rejoining Sabbath.
Kurt Cobain's favorite band IIRC.Melvins - A History of Bad Men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3KNj1U8iZM
Not as deep into metal as most in this thread ... but I appreciated this call and the one for "Lay it Down". Warren DiMartini was an unsung master on the axe -- never hear his name anymore and hardly ever heard it back then.Lack of Communication - Ratt
Love the Metal Church and Savatage selections. Strange Wings is probably their best rock radio song. Such an underrated band.Wow... this thread has me digging into some amazing albums. Sorry if I turn this into “My Favorite Thrash Songs” thread.
Metal Church - Badlands
Armored Saint - Reign of Fire
Anthrax - Madhouse
Savatage -Strange Wings
DiMartini had a fantastic sound and unique style. So easy to pick out Ratt songs as soon as you hear that guitar. Not as deep into metal as most in this thread ... but I appreciated this call and the one for "Lay it Down". A Senile Animal is one of the best albums ever. It rips all the way through.Melvins - A History of Bad Men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3KNj1U8iZM
The first song my 15 year old ipod plays after it crashes (which it does frequently). Down-tuned, nice and slow, perfect.
SOD is riff heaven. This thread is going to take me a while to get through. Nice work everyone.
Been on a Scotty Ian kick lately. SOD and Anthrax. YouTube has a video “My Favorite Riffs with Nikki Sixx and Scotty Ian” which is fun but at some parts sounds like a foreign language.
Any other day might make an argument for Kerry King. But, could argue for most of these riffs.
Ironically, the original guitarist of Motorhead - Larry Wallis - just died a few days ago.zamboni said:Fastway - Say What You Will
Simple little opening riff from Fast Eddie Clarke, but very memorable from the early-ish MTV days.
ETA: love the YouTube comment below the clip: The only Band Rudy Sarzo never played bass for.
