It seems harsh, but in a tournament like this, there is not a lot of leeway built into having to postpone a match.

Had the outcome been worse, then I think we would have seen a different solution.  But I am sure the players just want to get the game completed so they can then focus on next steps over the next couple of days.
Plus he was ok.

He is alive, yes.  OK?  We have no facts on that at all.

I respect the decision of the players on the field.  They wanted to see the match out, so they did.  I certainly hope there was no pressure from outside the players to do so.
Well i agree.    But its easier to say yes lets play when he is stable.

Jesus, cut to studio.
I’m finally all caught up - I could not believe they didn’t cut away and not only showed the chest compressions but then the defibrillator coming out and him being shocked.  Thankfully Ekoku finally said something about how they shouldn’t be watching that.  I don’t really think ESPN knew what to do.  The whole thing was just horrible to watch.  And I had the opportunity to immediately search and make sure he was ok since I was watching so delayed.  I was choked up telling me wife about it because I literally thought he died on the field.

Understand that ESPN has no control over what is shown on the world feed. But presumably, they could have stopped showing the feed and cut to studio.

As for the first and last game:

- Swiss have a good team but still play at times like they are an underdog.  I thought they had a chance to top the group and they still might but expected more from them today

- Wales - they had chances, could have won and if Bale was Bale from 4 years ago they might have - think if they can get a point against Turkey they will advance

- Russia - maybe there’s a good reason for it but I kind of want to say F you to the Russians for not taking a knee.  Am I wrong here?

- Lukaku is a monster.  Belgium should easily win the group.

My take, FWIW, but I think they shouldn’t have resumed the game.  I understand they talked to Eriksen but I don’t think it was fair to the players.  But I understand it’s not a black/white situation.

The decision whether to finish the game was likely complicated as hell.

Hopefully the Danish players and coaches unanimously wanted to finish the game.

Definitely was complicated and ultimately I can't say they made the wrong decision as I'm not sure there is a right one.  But my thinking is no matter what the players said there was no way they were going to be mentally in to that game.  Even a nights rest to get the emotions somewhat under control would have been beneficial, IMO.  Now the timing of the next match for Finland was going to be tough - they have to go to St. Petersburg to face Russia so pushing their travel back a day was maybe a factor too as they play on Wednesday.  I think they should have pushed it to tomorrow and pushed the Finland - Russia match back a day too.

Also, shame that Finland's first major tournament goal and first win were overshadowed. That's what dreams are made of for little Finnish children.

Are we expecting that no news on Erikson is good news?  I keep hoping to hear they figured it out and have some gameplan.

According to reports, the entire Danish team was able to zoom with CE and CE told them to play on from the hospital.

Most of them are Putin puppets so they won't. Plus if any of these guys did that they might get death threats or kicked off the national team. Different situations for different cultures

Getting tested at the hospital. Seemed fine. Facetimed the team and told him he was fine and go play. WhatsApp chat with Inter as well according to their CEO and his agent said he was fine and in stable condition

Simon Kjaer also stabilized Erikson before medics got there making sure he didn't choke on his tongue and all, then had the players huddle around Erikson and while all of that was going on he went to be with Cristians wife and kid to make sure they were ok. All of this in a matter of mins

Too many Clancy novels bro.

Luke Shaw? Ben Chilwell?  Who needs a LB when you have Trippier?

Most creative player- Grealish?  Don’t need him.
Agree on LB.  Grealish most creative - possibly but he's been injured so I'm assuming it has to do with that.  Has Trippier been playing on the left for his club (drawing a blank where he's at now).

Ok - other than filling in some drinks I have this mostly done.  For those who don't care to go to it but would like the drink recommendations I'll add the cocktails:

  • England v Croatia - Pimms Cup and a Hugo
  • Austria v N. Macedonia - Aperol Spritz and hell if I know - couldn't find anything for Macedonia except Rakija (liquor is a Macedonian clear spirit brandy made from fermented fruit)
  • Netherlands v Ukraine - Improved Holland Gin Cocktail and Kiev Sundae (for those of you who prefer your diabetes with alcohol)
Yesterday's menu for me was:

  • Summer Negroni - this didn't really align perfectly with a match as I didn't have ingredients for the Welsh or Swiss drinks but this Negroni variation was very refreshing - will have again
  • Finnish Lonkero - honestly this drink was not that great.  Too bitter and in fairness to the drink I did use the no sugar added grapefruit juice.  You could easily use the higher sugar or add a little simple to taste and it would be a nice summer drink.  But since it was hot and I was outdoors I didn't mind too much as I added some extra ice.
  • Black Russian - created in Brussels and one I've had numerous times.  Like The Dude, I prefer a White Russian but these aren't bad.
Hope you guys enjoy the games and the drinks today.

*Will try to get a COPA version out today but no promises - just have a freaking Caipirinha for every match because they are delicious and stay away from the Fernet-Branca.

No news is good news as far as him leading a healthy life like a "normal" person.

I'll be surprised if he plays at all before club restarts in August. The tests take time and then there's the liability of how do we ensure this doesn't reoccur in a physically demanding setting.

Not a doctor but I did stay in a Holiday Inn a couple nights ago.

One thing that is promising for his overall health is one of the medical people said that when they got there he was breathing and had a pulse and only after they got there did things go south.  Meaning - they were able to immediately start CPR.  As I think gian pointed out - there was like a minute and a half between him going down and them starting CPR so there was concern what damage had been done.  But sounds like instead it was mere seconds.  Continued prayers for Cristian.

Croatia always seem to have sharp kits.  Hope Modric has a good tournament as I assume this is his swan song at the Euros but not today - let’s go Three Lions!
