“Franchise Fee” How does it work? Dynasty (1 Viewer)

I’ve seen people mention franchise fees for their dynasty leagues for if someone leaves- how do they work?

Guy leaves and he forfeits his franchise fee to cover the next owners dues, and that new owner pays their own franchise fee? Doesn’t that seem kind of redundant? 
 

Starting a new league and I want to make sure we protect against anyone bailing.

Myself and the co-commish were thinking of having a 3 year dues fee charged at the start to prevent any people from bailing right away, but also want to protect against anyone bailing down the road with a bad team we can’t fill

You've got it right. Make people pay for more than one year up front to ensure that there is not a quick exit due to a bad start up draft. There are other ways, too, but the way I've seen that works requires an upfront, multi-year commitment.

My league makes owners pay for the future if they trade away future draft picks.  Normally new owners get a year free when joining.
