⚽ EPL 2021-22 Fantasy League ⚽ - League Cup Update (2 Viewers)

Well done on the draft everyone.

Thoughts?  What should we do differently next year?

Are we ready for a "Live" draft on a weekend afternoon?

I actually liked the slow draft. Gave a newb like me a chance to do plenty of research, etc.

But if the majority of the group wanted to do a live draft next year, I'm sure I could make it work.

Can you go over exactly how the waivers are going to run? I'm mostly more wondering if we'll be able to do free add/drops outside of the blind-bidding waiver window each week leading up to game time.

We have actually never done it this way - but the expectation is that you submit your bids for players by next Wednesday, Waivers run, and then it is first come, first served on the left overs until each player's games start next weekend.

How does blind bidding work? Can I bid $200 on Eze and $200 on Messi and I just lose out on Messi if I get Eze? Or since $200 is the cap can I only spread out the $200 amongst all of the players I'm bidding on any single week? And if I can bid my entire purse on two players, which one goes first?

Great questions.  I don't know.

Here is what I think, and the assumptions I am operating under.

You can bid $200 on everyone.

The process - I just tried - is a little convoluted, but this is what I had to do on my Mac - mobile could be different:

  1. Click on player you want to bid on
  2. You will see a box open in upper right of screen - where you have to enter the bid amount
  3. Enter the bid amount - a single bid can not exceed your budget
  4. hit Next, which will take you to your roster page, and you pick the player you are dropping (if you have an open spot, you can skip this step)
  5. Hit submit
  6. Then, you can view "Pending Claims" where you can put the claims in the order you want.

How it works beyond that - I don't know.  Obviously, the system will go player by player and look for bids, and resolve them one-by-one - but I don't know how your ranking system will impact the order of players.

Obviously if you big $150 on Player x, and get him, you would not be able to get player Y for $100.  But, I don't know what happens if you list player Y with a higher priority (the system could "know" that, and give you Y instead of X)

I must be missing something, because I'm not seeing a way to enter waiver bids. Or to submit a lineup.
Did you figure out the line-up?

Its pretty straight forward - click on the position button next to each player, and that will allow you to move that player to another eligible position, including you reserves.

One more question. How close to waiver time do available players lock? If waivers run at 9pm and Messi is rostered for Arsenal at 8:57 pm but I'm not around can someone swoop in and bid on him at 8:59? If that's something we can control, I'd like to at least lock out a newly arrived transfer an hour or two before waivers run.

Generally speaking your bids have a priority, so you can bid over your total budget. It should just go down the line and complete whatever is possible until you’re out. Unless fantrax does it unlike every other site

Yeah it seems like people get added at random, sometimes right before our deadline

Let me look into the deadline.

I think the solution is to require players to be on waivers at least 24 hours if I recall the settings. But I will take a look tomorrow

Lol at “poker in the rear” taking gylfi
Ok. I really had forgotten about his arrest. It was for child sex offenses so that's not something I would joke about. I just grabbed someone to keep the draft moving because the last few spots on the roster are usually turned over quite a bit, especially with all the transfers waiting on bids right now.

This is the current setting:

Checking this option will ensure that players remain on waivers for at least 24 hours. For example, if waivers are set to process every Monday 6:00pm and Thursday 6:00pm, and a player goes on waivers on Monday 12pm, he will not come off waivers until Thursday 6:00pm, since the drop occurred within 24 hours of the upcoming waiver process time.

So big Rom won't be on waivers until next week, is that right?  Or do I need to keep checking waivers until they run tonight at 9pm to see if he's been added prior to 9pm?

Holy hell.  Need to open an infirmary for my roster.

Do we still have the Covid spot?  Lingard is out for Covid for me this week.

@Sinn Fein, now I have a provable situation with regards to players being able to be picked up immediately after they have been cut by another team.

All of the players that have been cut are now free agents. However, I cannot go acquire any of them today. When I submit a claim for any of them, the notice informs me that the changes will take place for game week 2. This means that players are free agents but not available for immediate pick up.

Will that setting be changed?

All the players cut - are on waivers (orange circle before their name, Green circle = FA) - hence not picking up before GW1.

That is the default setting, and I could not recall if we agreed to make them all FAs.  I don't have a problem with that - just want to make sure we have a league consensus .

Also - for those asking how the blind bid worked - this is what we did, and how it resulted:

Priority 1 - Demarai Gray $0 -> Olise = we won this, and picked up Gray (much to Gator's disappointment).

Priority 2 - Adam Armstrong $6 -> Olise = we lost this, because we already dropped Olise

Priority 3 - Demarai Gray $0 -> Lo Celso = we "lost" this, since we already had Gray

I was making these bids sort of at the last minute, but I had expected that Armstrong would have been the 1st bid to get resolved, since that was our highest bid, hence the two bids for Gray.  But, the bidding system clearly took our priority ranking into account, and resolved our highest priority first.

Hey everybody, can we please get consensus to to be able to pick up any player at any time as long as their game hasn't started?

I run two highly competitive magic football leagues. In both of those leagues, as soon as a player is dropped, he can be picked up by another team (as long as his game hasn't started). Why isn't it that way here?

Please explain to me why I should have to wait until next Wednesday to pick up a player available right now.

I wouldn't mind a day or two of a guy being on waivers before he can be picked up again. For guys like me who can't get to the site 24/7 it gives us a chance to see who's available each day and can plan accordingly.

Just my .02

Yeah. While I’m a total dork and addicted to my phone and will be able to scoop up people as soon as they’re dropped, that’s not true for everyone.

Agree, would like at least 24 hours for dropped players.  Edit: But not a week.

So here is the dilemma - its really an all or nothing approach - if we put players on waivers - for a day, we have to run waivers again, to give everyone the same chance at picking them up.  And, then those players that get dropped, need to have waivers run again, and so on.

Its been my experience in this league - that most add/drops take place on Saturday morning  - and none of the players dropped then would be eligible - assuming we hold them for a day.

And, if we run waivers every day - particularly now, with the transfer window open, new players will be added at different times, and would require everyone to stay on top of those - or miss out on a player they want to bid on.

So, we either drop all players to FA, and that makes them first come, first served, or we live with the idea that some players will not be eligible to be picked up in a given game week.

(Keep in mind that there are roster-churning rules in place - so that if you pick up a player today, but then drop that same player tomorrow - that player will be a FA, and not on waivers - that prevents any team from picking up/dropping everyone to make the ineligible)

Ok, I'm a goofy drunk, not a dumb one (you may disagree  ). I have made my point though.

I see @Sinn Fein's point about the waivers being all or nothing. As a commissioner, I don't care about whether you make time for the league more than me or you don't. We all pay money to do this. Your level of participation is your choice.

However, there is no way I would want to go in and set up all the settings required for what we've been posting about.

I understand why things are the way they are and will drop the subject. At least we have consensus now

Thanks to all

ETA: If you have notifications on for when a player gets dropped, my advice would be to turn that off. All you're doing is filling up the inbox with emails about players you don't have to care about until Monday evening.

So just to confirm... anyone added to the database at this point is not eligible to be picked up until next Wednesday night?

I had $100 as the total budget in my head when I bid on Sargent and Bailey. Oops. Is it possible to see all failed bids on fantrax? I'm thinking I grossly overpaid for Sargent.

edit: there is a toggle for "executed only" on the transaction history page, turn that off and you can see everything
