6 picks tomorrow.
FWIW, CBS had him as a 3rd rounder.Their list is not anywhere near yours or mine or some "analyst" on some website. So you see my problem as well. If you are going to going to go "best player available" for now on at least get near the top of the listThey're hardly ever "need" picks. Please don't even try to tell me this is a "need" pick![]()
I'm lukewarm on Archer. I like the fact that he's a splash play guy and introduces even more speed into the offense, but they're limited in what they can do with him because he can't block and he fumbles too much. He'll get limited touches, but he CAN contribute right away in limited time.As much as like the first couple picks, I hate the Archer pick that much at present.
He's going to get destroyed in the pros. Sure, he's fast. He's also tiny.
This is clearly a "Haley Special" to me. The Steelers didn't usually go after these types until he showed up. They tried this with Chris Rainey and it didn't work. It's probably not going to work with Archer either.
That's true, but also consider that Tavon Austin has almost identical measurables and went #11 last year. How many 5-7 guys that weigh under 180 have ever had an impact in this league? (At least, say, in the last 20 years?) It's a big man's sport.
It didn't work with Rainey due to his characterOne thing is for certain, the front office will be testing the receiver depth. As much as like the first couple picks, I hate the Archer pick that much at present.

Tavon Austin, Dexter McCluster are within an inch and 5 pounds of that. How many 5-7 guys that weigh under 180 have ever had an impact in this league? (At least, say, in the last 20 years?) It's a big man's sport.
Austin, though, had terrific hands. And even so I never would have made that pick. But I hope you're right. That's true, but also consider that Tavon Austin has almost identical measurables and went #11 last year. How many 5-7 guys that weigh under 180 have ever had an impact in this league? Which I also thought was semi-crazy, fwiw. That's true, but also consider that Tavon Austin has almost identical measurables and went #11 last year. How many 5-7 guys that weigh under 180 have ever had an impact in this league? (At least, say, in the last 20 years?) It's a big man's sport.
I'm not comparing Archer to Austin in terms of overall football ability. There's reason one guy was around the 10th pick and the other around the 100th. Just saying that denigrating Archer based on size alone may be overlooking the positive. Some folks had him hand timed at 4.16 at the combine. By any measure, he's one of the 5 or 10 fastest players to come out of college this century.Austin, though, had terrific hands. And even so I never would have made that pick. That was the 2nd pick of the 4th, essentially. #98.This is a guy who you take a stab at in the 4th or 5th, in my mind.
Beat me to the punch on this one. Our "3rd round pick" was exactly "that".That was the 2nd pick of the 4th, essentially. #98.This is a guy who you take a stab at in the 4th or 5th, in my mind.
Jahine Arnold, IMOIf you look at it that way, the Steelers needed to get faster. When's the last time they had a decent kick returner?
Not sure but I think they have every pick next year.Does someone have cliffs notes on all the movement SF did in rds 1-3?
Wonder where they had Barr rated. They intended to draft Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert, thinking he could still be available with the 15th overall pick. Gilbert would provide a need at a position where longtime starter Ike Taylor is in his final season with the Steelers and there is little depth.
But when the Browns took Gilbert at No. 8, the Steelers shifted their target to wide receiver Odell Beckham of LSU. But, when the Giants drafted Beckham with the 12th overall pick, the Steelers made the move to take Shazier, even though they have three young players who they think can play next to Lawrence Timmons on the inside — Vince Williams, Sean Spence and Terence Garvin. Williams, the incumbent starter, and Garvin were rookies in 2013.
The Steelers had Shazier rated so much higher than anyone else on the board they felt they couldn’t pass on him.
Gilbert had mostly not been available that late on at any mock source since the combine. They intended to draft Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert, thinking he could still be available with the 15th overall pick.
C'mon guys lets not criticize picks. The Steelers obviously had Archer rated higher than we did and they know more than us. Nothing else to say about it.
Not sure. If they were serious about getting a big WR, there are several still out there. Martavis Bryant, Brandon Coleman to name a couple. Both guys have questionable hands, I think it depends on whether or not they prefer either of those guys to Moye.Do we think they may not take another wr now?

From www.stampedeblue.com 2012:
The third round has been a bad one for G.M. Ryan Grigson. He took TE Dwayne Allen at No. 64 after already selecting Coby Fleener at No. 34. Then, Grigson swung a trade with the 49ers, handing over Indy's 97th pick and a 5th rounder to move up to 92 and take Hilton, a player he probably didn't need to move up to get. Hilton is fast (4.34 40-yard time), explosive, and has kick return ability. He also has fumble problems and is only 5'10. He projects as a slot receiver, which is what Austin Collie is. Like the Allen pick, this one is a head-scratcher. So many needs on a truly terrible defense, and Grigson takes four offensive players in a row. Yes, wide receiver was a need, but no where near as vital as corner, nose tackle, or safety.
Good idea. Let's go back to criticizing the audible podcast. jkC'mon guys lets not criticize picks. The Steelers obviously had Archer rated higher than we did and they know more than us. Nothing else to say about it.
I'd think both are firmly in play. If they take neither, I think that would be an indictment of the player in their eyed as either represents value and need in the 4th.Pierre Desir?
Martavis Bryant?
yes yesPierre Desir?
Martavis Bryant?
