✦✦✦Official 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread (1 Viewer)

The one thing that worries me about the Jacksonville game is that we won't get Henne. They'll be a much improved team with Bortles at the helm IMO.

Well damn, Jarvis needs surgery. Could be a little while. Shazier reported to be a sprain. May not be too bad.

ETA: from Shefter. And he said might need surgery in regards to Jones.

I wonder if Silverback's agent makes a call to the Steelers this week?

Maybe but I don't think they'll go that direction. Moats is fine. Spense is fine. Steelers might even be better with them in there. Depth after that is a concern. I think if they go any direction it's promoting Hojo or signing So'oto. Guess it depends on how long Jones and/or Shazier are out.

Yep. I'm guessing he may not be back until after the bye week (week 12) if he comes back at all this season.

I assume Moats moves to starter and Howard Jones gets signed from practice squad. Pretty scary stuff. I know the Steelers want to move on but bringing in Harrison for a talk does not seem like a bad idea.

This is going to interesting to watch. With everyone talking about the football IQ/instincts that Spence has, it will be interesting to see if he can add some reliability to replace some of the speed-to-fix-errors that Shazier was relying on.

As for Harrison and Bailey -- seriously, why wouldn't they talk with these guys? Is there a financial reason?

If they think those guys are shot, they're not going to want to pay them even the vet minimum for dudes with their service time if they don't think they represent an appreciable upgrade over what they have on the practice squad (Howard Jones, Shaquille Richardson)

This isn't the 2008 version of Harrison so I'm not sure how I feel about this. Is he going to start or provide depth. I get the signing if he is going to be added for depth / situational pass rusher. But if he is able to start off the street over Moats, why didn't they have Harrison on the team over Moats to begin with?

My assumption is depth move since they're down to 2 OLB (plus Garvin as an option who hasn't played outside). He'll get at least 8 weeks until Jarvis is back, maybe the full year.

After how we looked in the 2nd half of week 1 and vs the Ravens, I gave us next to no chance to win sunday night. That game was the most surprising game from the Steelers - good surprise that is - in a looong, loong time.

Hopefully the defense can recover from all the injuries.

I know it is a broken record by me but I hope people remember this game when it is draft day or free agency and WE COMPLETELY IGNORE our secondary. Now many more years of awful cornerback play should we have to deal with.

The only things that are certain in life is death, taxes, and the Steelers will play like dogs when they play a team not on their level. at this rate I would rather play playoff teams all year long because at least they put a freaking effort.

Cowardly play calling by Haley in that last drive.

I disagree with this. TB had 2 time outs so you have to consider that. First down run by Bell for 2, TB calls time out. 2nd and 8 looked like it might be a pass but there was a false start. 2 and 13 they did throw the ball, TB calls time out. 3rd and 5 they ran it to ensure the clock burned as much as possible since TB was out of time outs. Those calls were all reasonable. Had they thrown an incomplete pass on 3rd down I'm sure you would have praised Hailey for the ballsy play call

3 & 5 you have to throw in the NFL , especially with the Steelers banged up D. No doubt Arians goes for it.

"You play to win the game"

I wish I hadn't missed my flight. Would have been in the air during most of the game and definitely the 4th qtr. That was frustrating.

Like the 3rd and 6 bootleg behind the 3rd string OT (Trai Essex) with a QB with a bum ankle in the JAX playoff game in 2007

Hate to say it but Tomlin is overrated. If the team is supposed to take on the identity of the head coach, what is this? Soft? Undisciplined? Tomlin talks a good game but his team certainly doesn't back him up. I may have to take a few weeks off after this one. Ugh!

It's only 4 games in but there is no way this team is coming close to sniffing the playoffs this year. I say that not because of their performance today but more because the AFC looks pretty freaking good. Not only that, 2 teams in their division look like world beaters.

All three phases of the team had a chance to put the game away and failed.

The offense only needed to get a first down to secure the win and blew it. I understood but did not like the call on 3rd down. A 5-yard completion is more likely than a 5-yard run in that situation. Besides, if you trust your defense to hold with 40 seconds then you should be able to trust them with 70 seconds if the pass is incomplete.

The defense only had 40 seconds to keep Tampa Bay from scoring a TD. They allowed the Bucs to do it in 33. I understand they are banged up but this isn't Tom Brady or Peyton Manning throwing the ball it is Mike Glennon. Pathetic performance.

Special teams could have bailed out the Steelers with a decent punt but Wing only managed a 29 yard punt. Surely there must be a better punter available somewhere in the USA than Wing. As soon I saw that punt I knew the defense was going to blow it.

The only way this team goes 8-8 is if they put up 30 points on the board in at least 8 of those games.

You can't tell me there isn't a punter at one of the local high schools that kicks better than effing Wing. He has been putrid from the get go but they will keep trotting his sorry ### out there. Oh and another great def performance from the worst def in the league. Guess lebeau is around as long as he wants to be. Way to be shredded by mike effing Glennon.

I hate to say it because it isn't the Steeler way, but maybe Tomlin should be a bit on the hot seat.
Barring a major collapse I think he has one more season before the heat is on.
You are probably right. But it is painful to watch such an undisciplined team, 13 penalties I think and there were some not accepted. Then you just see that stupid blank look on Tomlin's face, makes me want to just punch him. But he will come out tomorrow with his prepared idiotic press statement. They refuse to change personnel or assistants, it will be long time before we see this clown get the boot.

Watched the kid from Akron pin Pitt back with non-returnable 60-yarders all afternoon on Saturday.

Its the lack of discipline that bothers me most. Way too many penalties. Putting idiotic celebrations before the good of the team. Smoking pot on the your way to the airport. etc. etc.

Clown? He hasn't had a losing season in his coaching career. They've changed out coaches at OC and LB. If anything it's the suspect faith in players like Lamarr Woodley and Ike Taylor. I still personally don't think this is an 8-8 team or worse just one that has made too many mistakes the first four weeks. The schedule still has plenty of winable games and I think the talent level is coming back around. I'm not trying to defend the Tampa loss. I will say that it doesn't shock me that Tampa played tough having a week and a half to prepare, we had the game locked up and gave it away and that can't happen but I think a lot of growth is occuring. Bell looks like one of the best back in the league and the running game is probably the best. Ben has a solid connection with Wheaton and Brown is out of this world. The injuries on D are killer but there is talent there and they could easily start surprising people in the second half of the year even if the CB's are iffy at best.

This really feels like another December that we'll be saying "If we would have only won the (insert bad team here) game".

So looks like steelers turning into the raiders as most undisciplined penalized team in the league. But hey Tomlin won a super bowl. What will everyone say WHEN they lose to the worst team in the league today

Easy killer.
Didn't lose but still not a whole to be optimistic about
When did everyone in this thread get so whiny/#####y? Last year was a talent issue starting out the year with rotating centers, over the hill LB's and the worst starting RB in the NFL with Issac Redman. This team is not devoid of talent like that team we're 3-2 and STILL have an easy schedule. Yes, this team has a lot to work on and chemistry to build but their weakness are no more than any other team in the NFL and they are playing with a lot of backups on defense and held, being aware it is Jacksonville, under 10 pts. This is the NFL, the top and bottom arn't seperated by that much and this team still has a lot to build off of.

Sorry but you lost to a team that was 0-3 and needed a terrible INT for a TD from Bortles to beat a team that is now 0-5. Against a normal team with an above average QB the Steelers lose this game by a couple touchdowns. You can talk about your "easy schedule" all you want but if anyone has followed a Tomlin run team, an "easy" team is the worst opponent for us

I was pissed with our red zone play today. You are near the end zone at least two times and it is PASS PASS PASS PASS. Meanwhile Legarrette Blount is having a good game running down the field and you don't even put him in the game most times. Just baffling

A win is a win this team still just screams 8-8. The only positive from tonight is that the AFC North is just as average and the Bengals look to be the same old team

I will. Last year's team was far inferior to this one. I agree they seem to get lax when they face easy opponents but it isn't the end of the world to have a couple rough weeks and still come out with a winning record. Our OLine is intact, we still have Ben, Brown is a beast, the D played better, Bell/Blount is still one of the most dominant combos in the league. Yap, yap, yap... I'll take it over a lot of other teams problems and records to this point in time.

It was a win and I'll take it but the offense has not been playing anywhere near its potential. They are going to need to pick up their game against the Browns this week big time. Ben was definitely off yesterday and I am still not sure why Lance Moore isn't getting more playing time. Speaking of Moore, he drew a pretty stupid penalty when he spiked the ball after making a 26-yard reception. I guess being a bad-$$$ is more important than your team.

This crap has happened several times this year. They're an undisciplined team and that falls on the coaching staff.

Even with the "easy schedule", I could easily see this team 8-8 or worse. At this point, other teams may be chalking the Steelers up as an "easy" win. Lets see what happens in Cleveland next week and I think that should help determine what direction this team is ready to move in.
