101 MPH Speeding Ticket (1 Viewer)

Small rolls or buckles in the road can unweigh a car pretty good at some of these speeds.  Sure, quality suspension, steering and brakes can compensate for that a bit, but there is real risk of losing control, if but in a small and temporary manner, when your vehicle is unweighting like that. Be careful out there.

tell me more, professor
Divide the weight of the vehicle in half. Multiply that by the square of the velocity. In terms of kinetic energy, that translates as 45,464 foot-pounds for a 3400-pound car hitting a stationary obstacle at 20 mph. Plow the same car into a tree at 40 mph and the amount of energy quadruples to 181,855 foot-pounds. If you survive that, you're just plain lucky, as the odds are very much against you.

search mythbusters, they did an episode on this also.

Sure... but if we're going to die at anything over 40mph, where's the fun in dicking around at slower speeds?
Go fast or get passed.   :headbang:

Meh, Driving 75-80 is fine with me.  I enjoy life so I am not in a rush to end it on a public road.

Don't get me wrong I love going fast but just choose to do it on closed courses. In fact some of the funnest moments I recall are during Enduros where I'm going at low speeds like sections of Leadbelt.

I never understood the need to tear down a public road. Guess it makes some feel more manly? Go to a closed course and see how far you can really push the limits and not kill some innocent family.

Desert going out to Vegas is almost expected to hit 100mph at various points.

It's just ingrained.

I can't wait for the hyperloop or supertrain or whatever we've been promised for years.

2003 i was ticketed for speeding 135, 85 over the limit. I was going 156 but the cop said since the highway was deserted he would give me better outcome. Turns out over 135 is reckless driving and I could have gotten 30 days in jail.

What were you driving?  I'm so impressed...Not!

Reminds me of the quote “They say even death can't cure an idiot."

It was 6am in a Sunday morning and 5 lanes wide open, literally nobody on the road. I would routinely drive it at 100+, but like I said the road was wide open. The cop was on an overpass, he gave me a break because of no traffic. The ticket was less than the lawyer fee I paid.

Is it up to the cop's discretion as to whether they arrest you at that point?
