14 Killed in Shooting in San Bernardino (1 Viewer)

I'm sure everybody remembers the "white van" for the Turnpike shooter or whatever the hell he was known as. I'm not saying it's not a black SUV but witnessess that are under extreme stress often get things very wrong.

Sam Hyde is apparently an internet hoaxster. Here's a quote from a website to which I will not directly link.

Because a simple Google search will now reveal that Sam irritates and disappoints all people, preventing him from tricking anyone about his credentials anymore, Sam now has to do his "comedy" through poor fools willing to trust Sam's actual credentials.

Any news on who he victims were? Students? Administration? County officials? Or just random people?
San Bernardino Health Department employees says the Exec Director of the center where this happened.
Apparently they were assembled in a rented space at the facility.
That combined with multiple shooters would suggests someone had an axe to grind. I.e., not a total nut job but some motive was behind this besides terror.

I cannot even put into words how f'd up having a standard mass shooing meme is, for so many reasons. I cannot wrap my head around this.

The existence of an internet meme for mass shootings make me sad for multiple reasons.
Dont ever visit 4Chan then. The most disturbing place on the web.

What? This is the book definition of terrorism. They pulled the fire alarm and then picked people off. That's not terror?

I don't know, this feels terrorist-y to me. As you say, it'd be odd for there to be three just plain old nutjobs, so what would make three people have an axe to grind against this kind of place? If they shot up a government building or something, maybe, but a place for people with disabilities? Seems like a "soft target" type attack IMO.

Obviously we know nothing at this point.

Of course it's terror. I never said otherwise.

And with another location potentially now seems a lot like Paris if that's the case. Hope not. What world do I live in.

I don't want to jump to conclusions because I hate people that do, but with the events of Paris fresh in our mind, what if this is something more deep other than a disgruntled emloyee. This is a pretty soft target. But I will echo what I said in the Springs thread, we need to see what this really is...

"Light skinned male" in camoflauge spotted near the "Old Stingers"

Keith Nelson, the vice president of the center's board of trustees, said a group who he believed to be "county workers" unrelated to the center were hosting a Christmas party when the gunfire broke out.

A person who was inside the building also told the Los Angeles Times that the shooting may have happened during a Christmas party, but declined to be identified or comment further.

The shooting took place in a building that is open to the public, Nelson said.

Federal law enforcement sources, who requested anonymity because the investigation is active and ongoing, told the Times that the group holding the party, rather than the center, may have been targeted.

- County personnel, not disabled people here.

Yeah, the fact that it was county personnel makes this more likely to be some kind of right-wing militia IMO. Just speculation, obviously, but that makes more sense than if they had attacked developmentally disabled people.

I know this is tragic, but :lmao:

Just picturing these idiots golfing it up with drinks in hand not giving a damn about cops buzzing about.

The one thing about The Jester is, he's very good with getting you a lot of data. But I've found that a lot of times, it turns out to be not true. Not blaming him, as he's trying to get it all out as fast as possible. He doesn't have to worry about being wrong like journalists do. So take what you read from him with a little grain of salt.

13:55 Description update: White male in gray long sleeve, tan pants.

Same guy as before? Did he lose the camoflauge? And the shorts? So much info floating around...

I think there's room for all kinds of discussion here, but it's premature to talk about gun control or mental illness or anything else because we don't have enough information.
Anyone (even in a group of 3) that shoots up a center for disabled people (or basically anywhere for that matter) is clearly mentally ill.
They certainly show a depraved indifference to life. That said, if we default to thinking of them as mentally ill we are on a road down which prosecution is made more difficult.

Our natural revulsion and incredulity at the callous and depraved nature of some humans makes us search for terms to describe their behavior. I just hope that in that search we do not help those perpetrators avoid culpability.

Is it correct that the San Bernadino police are saying they have no idea who the shooters are or where they are?

Doesn't L.A. have copters flying overhead like all the time? They had the SUV, then what?

This sounds targeted to me - a party inside a rented conference room at this facility. I feel like terrorists go to public gathering spaces, this event seems too specific - like how would a group of terrorists know what conference room to go into?

Im stepping away guys. This is both fascinating and tragic, and here I am focusing too much on the assailants and not enough on the victims. Thoughts and prayers to all. :( :( :(
