I was just watching The Bird dominate the Yanks from 1976 on MLB network. It's funny to see the little differences in the game. Right off the bat is the presentation with minimal graphics on the screen and only a couple of cameras. Baseball on ABC? Whoda thunk it. The players were uglier and more out shape. Facial hair was huge in the 70s. They looked like normal Joe's rather than real athletes. The field sucked. They've obviously improved on groundskeeping. There seemed to be a lot more black players with very few latinos. Players seemed to hustle a lot more, play better fundamentals....but not be able to really make that highlight play. Finally (probably not to the chagrin of Detroit fans) I was ticked I never got to go to Tiger Stadium. It seemed like a very cool place. Old and a bit of a dump....but cool.
