You have to keep in mind that it was just a nine game season, so winning a few games looks really, really important.

In week one, Moseley hit a long FG in regulation to send the game into OT and then booted the winner in overtime. In week six, a road win at a good Cardinals team, he scored all Washington's points in a five point win. In week seven, he hit three field goals in a one point win against a decent Giants team.

Throw in that he had one of hte greatest kicking seasons of all time, and you can see why he won the award. You can't see why he deserved the award, but voters like to give the award to the most valuable player on the team with the best record.

It had nothing to do with Al Davis. Plunkett wasn't in the discussion for MVP -- he wasn't one of the top five QBs in the NFL that year. Dan Fouts was the one who got screwed, as he was having arguably the best season of his HOF career. Ken Anderson and Joe Montana, as they often were back then, would have been legitimate MVP candidates as well.

Agreed, kickers watch soap operas in the locker room, while the rest of the players are out practicing. The only reward they deserve is not getting duck-taped the goal post when they have a good season.
