2 QB League Strategys (1 Viewer)

Hey all.

My league is going to be drafting this weekend and we are using a new system to us. We will be going with 2 QBs. I have searched the net and this site, but I can't seem to find any good info on strategy for that type of league. If you know where it is here or where I can find it on the web I would love to know.

Thanks

I'll sum up the strategy for you - QBs have more value in 2 QB leagues, so draft QBs early. QBs like Manning, Romo and Brees usually go in the first round in 2 QB leagues, because of position scarcity.

I play in a 2 QB league, and don't follow this strategy...

I usually get my 1st qb in round 2-3 then the next in rounds 5-7

I got Peyton at 2.03 and Kurt warner in the 7th.

I really like 1 qb leagues I wish they were more common, they don't make qb's an afterthought like 1 qb leagues. The league size should be 10 teams though.

Here are some general numbers to expect from a 12 team 2QB league, this data goes back to 2002:

1st Round average 2 QBs Max 7 which happened in my league in 2002 no more than 4 since then and only one last year.

2nd Round average 5 QBs Max 10 also in 2002, no more than 7 since Min 5

3rd Round average 10 QBs Max 14, Min 9

4th Round average 17 QBs Max 19, Min 15

5th Round average 22 QBs Max 24, Min 20

6th Round average 27 QBs Max 28, Min 24

7th Round average 29 QBs Max 30, Min 27

8th Round average 31 QBs Max 32, Min 29

9th Round average 33 QBs Max 34, Min 31

You can expect your league to go a little QB happy, particularly if Brady and Manning go in the top 5-7, according to the DD Brady is the #2 pick in the draft behind LT. However back in 2002 when my league went QB crazy the QB run returned to the average by the 4th round, when guys like Delhomme, Eli, Rivers, Kitna and maybe even Warner or Favre. All of these guys are ideal #2 QBs in the 4th and if there is not a huge run on QBs a couple of them could slip to the 5th, so don't jump on one early, unless you are near the turn and are staring at 2 of either Manning, Romo or Brees, that is a very tempting 1-2 in a 2 QB league.

Good luck.

You in my live 2 qb draft friday night? I am the CHAMP. I've never took a QB in the first but with 8th pick who knows? Theres always a first time in everything. haha

I won last year with BIG BEN in 5th and Campbell maybe 8th. I forget exact.

When Campbell went down I used waiver scrubs as my second one. Still dominated!

Draft two qbs first two rounds is my advice. Especially if your in my Hell Freezes Over league! :blackdot:

The thing to bear in mind is, if you have 12 teams, then that means you have 24 starting spots, and there are only 32 teams with starting QBs.

That means that not every team is going to have a #3 QB and some are going to be in trouble with bye weeks.

And of course if one of your two starting QBs gets hurt you're in major trouble.

So you should try to get 3 starting QBs out of the draft.

Try a 10 team league that has a mandatory 3 QB start.

I make sure to get 2 of the top 5 qb's every year. So far it has only failed me once.

They flew off board tonight. And I got Romo with 1.8th pick!

Brady 1.1

Brees 1.7

I immediatly switched to Romo at 1.8 when Brees went 1.7.

Manning went right after me

Cutler even went on the turn at 1.12 2.1.

Big Ben 2.4

Palmer 2.9

Anderson 2.11

Then after this the next big big run came 6th round.

Much faster then previous years and most the guys been around a long while.

Hi stakes 2 qb league.

Man I like my draft! Romo, Gore in second and Fitz in 3rd!

I hope to find more 2 qb leagues in future!

I ended up with:

Romo 1.8

Young 8.8 (I ignored thier 6th round run and Young was best left over!)

Osullivan 10.8

T. Jackson much much much later like round 15

Favre was 6.1 and Rodgers 6.9 if your wondering!

In my league Qbs went like this:Rd 1 - 4Rd 2 - 4Rd 3 - 1Rd 4 - 3

That is same as mine counting Cutler at 2.1.

1-4

2-4

3-1 (McNabb)

4-0

5-2 (Scaub @ 5.10 & Hasselbeck @ 5.8)

6-7

Half the teams had there 2 qb.s by end of 6th. I waited until 8th to get my second one!

Campbell was still there in 8th too but had same bye as Romo so I passed for Young.

I picked up a couple good position players by being patient on that second one.

Whitten and Crochery I think. I am loaded for this type of league.

How is that for a comprehensive 2 qb report. What surprised me is how two seperate 2 qb leagues had same results for first 3 rounds. I thought we was too fast snatching them up.

qb,s do get 6 per td this league. and a .05 bonus for long completions over 10 yards or something like that. it's small but Big Ben was awesome for me last year other then the mud bowl game!

The info on this thread is useful. Can anyone else share advice or results for those who still have an upcomining 2QB league draft?

If you can't get one of the top QBs, try to get four starters. That will give you a huge advantage against other teams because you'll be able to play matchups, you'll be protected if one or two of them bust, and you'll increase the scarcity. If you can't get four starters, but get a guy like Anderson or Warner, grab Quinn or Leinart later in the draft. They'll be available fairly late, and are much better backups than Sorgi. Don't reach on the second tier of QBs no matter how big the early run is. The dropoff from QB7 to QB 12 on your cheatsheet probably isn't that big. Instead, use your first 4-5 picks should include as many of the top 5-6 QBs, 10-15 RBs, and 15 or so WRs as possible. After that, grab QBs like it's your job, and force the run. The difference between the middle tier RBs and WRs is light enough that you can easily bounce back from it. Then hammer at the other skill positions, especially backup RBs who can make or break your season if they hit.

The top QBs seem to go about where they should, but after the top 6-8, people get complacent for some reason and let QBs drop too far. Also, a lot of people get 1 QB and decide they can wait awhile to get their second one. I think it's a good idea to be the first guy to grab 2 QB starters if the value is there. Don't be afraid to take 2 QBs in the first 2 rounds if they're tier 1-2 guys.

I took Brees in the first round (he's the second QB on my board) and was salivating when I saw Palmer falling in the second round, only to be snagged with the pick before mine. The thing about 2 QB leagues is that for some reason people forget that just because RBs are considered fantasy gold, the dropoff between QB 5 and QB 13 is just as big as the dropoff between RB 5 and RB 13. The difference is that in most leagues QB 13 is not a starter or flex player so he has limited value. Not in 2QB leagues. It is possible to walk away from the first two rounds with two of your top 5 rated QBs but far less likely that you will be able to land two top 5 rated RBs in a draft.

In my personal opinion, quantity wins out over quality in 2 QB leagues. Before your draft, do a lot of mocks in DD and pay attention to your weekly team points. Watch what happens when you add a 4th and even a 5th QB (if you have deep rosters) into the mix. Your first 2 rounds should be all about value. If the QB is the value, then take him, but don't pay a premium for him! If you don't have a QB by round 3, then you should really try to get one there. Also you should have about 5 or 6 QBBC scenarios in your head. Remember if your reading any QBBC articles that some guys that were thrown out with the bath water are suddenly playable again. It's ok if a QB has the same good weeks as your #1 in this scenario, as long as you have a couple of more QB's that have good match-ups in the off weeks. Getting Quantity at the QB spot will give you a better advantage against injury than the guy that threw 1-1 at Tom Brady and it also improves your odds of finding the next DA. A big bonus is that it virtually eliminates the guys that wait too long for QB depth before the first week in the season even starts. The guys that draft one of the big names at QB in round 1 or 2 are going be scrambling to get other positions while you load up on the second tier QBs and start that second QB run.

 I always play a couple 2QB leagues each year, and my rule is try to get at least 2 top 15 guys. I'm not afraid to get a stud QB if I draft late and miss the opening RB run, but if I don't, as long as I get 2 guys who I wouldn't be afraid to start in a normal 1QB league, I'm happy. You can't hold off on QBs like in 1QB leagues or else you'll be praying JT O'Sullivan pans out or that Kitna still has the Martz in him, but you can wait a little.Another side effect is that RB sleepers drop even further. If you're getting DeAngelo, Perry, or Chris Johnson in a mid round now, you can rake those nice RB sleepers all in during later rounds if you plan it out. I got all 3 at the end of a 2QB draft last week.

I just drafted in an 8 team 2 QB/2 Team defenses/1 RB/1WR/1TE/4 Flex/ Kicker league. First time I've ever done anything like this. I had pick 8 and the first 7 picks were Peterson, Brady, Tomlinson, Romo, Brees, Manning, and Moss. I went Westy/TO at the turn. At the next turn I got Braylon Edwards and MJD. Went Hasselbeck/Thomas Jones next, then Brandon Marshall/Ronnie Brown (my PC locked up and Brown was an autopick.) Went Cotchery/Eli next, then Burleson/Crumpler. At this point there are like 16 Defenses off the board, so I went Cardinals/Titans D next. Then Chris Perry/Delhomme, Vince Young/Josh Brown, and finally Jets D and Ben Utecht to close it out.

So, I finished like this - never played in a league like this before, but here's the squad:

QB Hassy/Eli/Delhomme/Vince Young

RB Westy/MJD/Thomas Jones/Ronnie Brown/Chris Perry

WR TO/B. Edwards/Brandon Marshall/Cotchery/Burleson

TE Crumpler/Utecht

K Josh Brown

TD Cardinals/Titans/Jets

Compared to the guys who took 2 QBs early, I think my team looks pretty stacked - especially at WR and RB. Starting 6 RB/WR seems to put them at a premium. The guy who took Brady then Palmer has Reggie Bush as his RB1 and to be frank, I don't see a huge spread between Palmer and Hassy. For people who have played in leagues like this before, how does the strategy I used look? I'll probably stay in this league next year so I would be interested to hear any insights.

It seems from these posts that there may be a difference in strategy depending on whether you are in an 8, 10, or 12 team league. Is it safe to say that you can take more of a gamble that you can take 2 top QBs in maybe the 1st 3 rounds of an 8 team league and still get good RBs and WRs, whereas you should wait a little longer in a 12 team league to grab your 2nd QB?

i've played in a 2 QB league for a long time. If you dont get a a TOP 5 QB then wait. They shouldn't be going as high as some in this thread suggest. In my league - it went something like this:

1. Manning and Brady

2. Brees and Romo

3. None

4. Roeth and Palmer

5. None

6. Cutler Mcnabb Hass

after the first 6 rounds there were approx 3 qbs taken in every round going forward.

very good point. in an 8 team league, you can wait much longer. even 10, you can afford to wait.In a 12 team league, you gotta be very mindful of QB runs.
