2 qb's vs elite qb (1 Viewer)

Some people believe grabbing a qb early is important, some believe stock piling wr's and rb's and waiting for qb's is better.

This article made me think more about it http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/football/ffl/story?page=NFLDK2K11_twoqbconundrum

I still personally like the 2 qb strategy, but more often than not you will pick the wrong qb. Then again, qb does seem very deep this year, with Big Ben, Schaub and Ryan rounding out the top 10, it looks one of the better years to pair them with a Matt Stafford type. In 6 point td leagues, you do have yourself an advantage by grabbing a Rodgers or Brady and watching them pile up points for you, but your rb's or wr core may be less than what you hoped for. What are some of your thoughts?

I made the decision last year to wait on QB and it was a bad decision. When you are stuck with two mediocre QB's it becomes difficult to decide which one to start ( and it seemed that I always started the wrong one). Year before I grabbed Rodgers early and went on to win my league. Lesson learned - I'm grabbing a top QB early this year.

Depends on scoring. In leagues with 4 pt QB TDs, the difference between "elite" and QB12 isn't very much (~50 points on the season). When you can get guys like Ryan/Roethlisberger/Freeman/Schaub in the seventh round and beyond, it doesn't hurt much to wait this year. The NFL currently has about 18 very competent fantasy QBs. I think the opportunity cost of burning a 2nd-4th rounder on an "elite" QB isn't worth it this year. (Exception: If you feel Vick can produce anywhere close to last year's pace, it would be a good idea to grab him)

Well I don't think the question is two QBs vs STUD QB because you don't want to draft two random quarterbacks. If you are drafting two from the 10-16 range you may have one emerge as an every week starter or just play matchups. The quarterback by committee QBBC approach as suggested in the current FBG article is more based on finding two - or three quarterbacks so that you face a very poor defensive team each week and there have been several seasons where using that approach would net you more total points than any single one of the STUD QBs.

The other advantage to the two or three based on worst opponent is that you are not guessing which to play each week - you are expecting more points from the matchup. The plus that may come from this approach is that you may discover the emergent QB1 - that happened several years ago when I drafted a very young Rivers as part of the QBBC - soon I was playing him every week because he was clearly outplaying my other choices and many QBs drafted earlier than he was. Likely the same for some who drafted Freeman last year as part of a QBBC
