2 round mock draft in the books ! (1 Viewer)

Tough call for the Pack here - more input requested. They could use a pass-rushing DE to go opposite KGB, but really need a LB as well. This one is hard - I projected Hawk here last time around, but Williams might be that physical specimen that's hard to pass up with a top-5 pick.

Green Bay - I'd be leaning Mario, but would not be shocked to see Hawk here.

In fact, that's my vote - HAWK

I think GB will take Mario Williams but I think they need someone like AJ Hawk on that defense. They need an attitude. They need a defensive leader. They have ignored the defensive side for so long until Jim Bates actually put together a decent defense last year. Too bad he is gone.

However, the pick here is Mario Williams.

Green Bay.......THis is the first tough one.

I believe GB selects Williams. However, this isn't about predicting is it?

They should take AJ Hawk. (My pick)

EG....are we predicting what each team does or pretending we are the team GM at time of the pick and maiking our own pick for them?
Either or, really. I take team needs into consideration, then choose a player that matches a need and value at a certain point in a draft, then look at tendencies and try to determine what I think a team WILL do.

Seems like we're pretty much split on this one - leaving it open for another few minutes.....

OK...put me down for Williams then, although as I said I would take Hawk. .

OK, in a tough call :

With the 5th pick, the Green Bay Packers select Mario Williams, DE, NC State

Very tough call between Williams and Hawk, who fits a need better, IMO - but in the end, the premium placed on theh DE position, and Willaims' singular physical traits make him the more valuable pick.

49ers up - V. Davis, Hawk, Ngata, Huff, other?

San Fran - I'd prefer to address the OL, but Justice isn't quite worthy of the pick, unless someone can make a strong argument that he is...

Got to go with Hawk here.

1.06 Davis.

Need to give the Kid (Smith) a place to dump the ball off to. Davis was a freak at the combine. 49er's need a playmaker. Rookie TE's tend to make a bigger impact than say WR's. Gonna be a good player!!!

Hawk is a possibilty......I think they go Offense.

Davis.

I expect Niners to do the unexpected and take DeAngelo Williams . But like was mentioned they need O. linemen , but not sure that there is one worth this high a pick.

I've read a dozen accounts with quotes from 9er HQ and I have a tough time here. They love DeAngelo Williams, but recently praised their existing backs. They talk all the time about the need for LBs, but praise all the good ones who will be around in rounds 2-4. Their OLine is a mediocre strength of a bad team, and I don't think it's an option. This is a tough tough call.

Vernon Davis. They also talk openly about the need for playmakers on offense. If they're happy at RB, then it's WR or TE, and no WR rates this high... VD to SF.

So many holes to fill here....
They need to give Smith some confidence.......TE=QB's best friend. My 0.02.
A very good point, Davis may be the better pick afterall. But, what happened to Eric Johnson? Obviously not the same talent, but a good receiver when healthy.

This is the first pick for me with more then 2 clear options. Davis should help Alex Smith who needs all the help he can get, and Huff clearly fills a need, but I still think Hawk is the best player available and he would be a leader on this team that clearly needs talent and leadership at all positions. TE and Safety can probably be gotten in later rounds but Hawk is the next Urlacher and shouldn't be passed here.

All of this Vince speculation is useless until he throws at his Pro Day.  If he flops there which some think he will, his value will plummet.

I'm not buying the sudden love for Jay Cutler in this spot either though.  Peter King actually put on paper that the Jets might have to trade up to #2 to get Cutler.  :lmao:   :lmao: I like his writing and read every week but he is a buffoon.

I would really like to see Ferguson here.  Maybe with Hopkins being cut there is some indication that Vince is not a sure thing in this spot.
I agree with you on the Cutler thing. The Jets just restructured Pennington to a $3 million base. That seems to me that they still want the guy to start. He has another $6 million in incentives in his contract.... it just seems that they're planning on handing him the keys back, not drafting a QB.
Yeah they want him to start and do well, but the fact they restructured his contract has more to do with the financial hit the Jets would have taken had he been cut than thier confidance in him as a player. I still think they draft a qb somewhere in the draft

I have read in a number of places that the 49ers are becoming enamored with Michael Huff. He is versatile enough to play both Safety and Cornerback. Mike Nolan is the coach here. A defensive coach. I dont think it will be Davis. Either Hawk or Huff.

My pick - AJ Hawk.

OK, another tough call here, but...

With the 6th pick, the San Francisco 49ers select Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland

Very tough call between Davis and Hawk, but the 49ers do need some offensive weapons to help their $50 million man along, and Davis' combine performance likely propels him into this range, a la Winslow.

Raiders up - I imagine Hawk is a cinch here with Davis off the board, no?

No one can really argue any of about 4 guys here (Davis, Hawk, Huff, D. Williams)

EG...your mock...you make the call.

The last two have been coin flips. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Raiders send a pick to SF to move up one spot and get either Hawk or Davis, if they are really hot for one of those two guys.

1.07 (Possible's-Hawk/Cutler/Huff)

Gotta be Hawk. Al Davis is giddy as a 4th grade school girl going to a Back Street Boys concert.

I'm surprised Cutler isn't being mentioned yet. I think Cutler, Ngata, or Hawk should be the pick here for Oakland.

Was thinking the same. I could see SF trading down (If someone has a woody for Hawk).

Cutler is a possibility too. Seems like he's a Raider kinda guy with his confidence and attitude too - plus, Cocktail Kerry was just cut.

I'm not sure how bad off the Raiders are on D (assuming their LBs need help), but AJ Hawk seems like a perfect fit here.

Yea, I could see Raiders trading up a spot if they feel they neede to to get Hawk. But they won't take a QB in the first round. I think Al hates QB's haha.

I think it's a consideration.....but they take the value and the safer pick in Hawk. They are going to suck...maybe they get Quinn next year.

I think everyone should list 2-3 possibilities for their pick...and then make one final choice.

BTW....this is fun. Great idea EG.

Thanks man - it's guys like you that get into it that make it fun.

Cutler has EVERYTHING owner Al Davis covets in a QB swagger, an outstanding arm and good mobility. Davis loves the long ball and this guy can chuck it.

With the 7th pick, the Raiders select A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio St.

Oakland needs defense as much as they need a QB, and Hawk is clearly the BPA at this point. He's a perfect fit in Oakland - physical, mean looking guy - raider fans will love him.

OK, Buffalo up at #8 - they need tackles on both sides of the ball. Winston Justice? Ngata? A different OT?

I think the Raiders like their young LB's and do not like their old DL (Sapp and Washington). I like Ngata here. He is a freak in the strength department.

NGATA

I like Ngata a lot. You're always a couple minutes behind the pick though - how about Buffalo here?

I'm too slow and couldn't convince ya'll anyhoo, but I love Ngata to Oakland. He is a freak, and at this point in the draft you seek freaks. Hawk is awesome, but not quite a freak. Good pick either way.
