2005 Ike Taylor = 2004 Terrence McGee (1 Viewer)

After picking up Ike Taylor in 2 league this week, I was doing the proverbial :wall: after reading Norton's Eye of the Guru realeased yesterday.

But then the blogger produced this contrarian view...

Taylor earns start for week 2

McGee played ove rthe last 6 weeks of his rookie year in 2003 and became a 2004 starter due to the Troy Vincent injury. McGee went on to keep the job and post a very nice season.

2004 McGee: 71-16-2 with 3 INT, 1 FR and 15 PD

Add to that his value as a KR which netted additional points for those leagues who award Return yardage & scores.

2004 McGee: 52 KOR - 1370 yds - 3 TDs

McGee ended up one of the Top10 DBs in many leagues with this type of scoring.

Fast forward to 2005:

Taylor started seeing playing time as a rookir in the last half of 2004.

Taylor starts at CB for the injured (& less-physically gifted) Willie Williams in Week1 to post 7-2-0 with a FR

Taylor is announced as the week 2 starter due in large part to an outstanding performance in week 1

Taylor is also the primary KOR man for the Steelers and showed similar big-play capacity in the preseason;

3-130-1TD

Hmmm,

Being a Steeler homer, I picked him up in my deeper leagues. We will see if this comparison can hold true. Stay tuned to the box scores.

on RCT guys, i think that giving the volatility of those types, its dangerous to speculate. is a SS that looks like a good prospect has just ascended to a job, and puts up a good line, snatch him up. but on a corner....TOO MANY FLUKES.there are 5-6 CB every year who you can watch through up four games in a row, and then pick up.course i am in a league that limits waiver moves...so if it cost you nothing, might as well try....but i'd rather fill the roster spot with a kerry rhodes, or even a vet like sgt. shulters.

taylor went to LA - lafayette... teammate of more highly touted peanut tillman.he is a brutal hitter & supposedly knocked a few players out in college. i don't think he made the switch to CB until his last season, so not a huge stretch to posit improvement as he learns the position... guys like gamble & corey webster were primarily offensive players (they were WRs & taylor was a RB, i think) who made the transition to defense in college. it caught my eye when i read leading up to draft that his trainer (who was trainer for an NFL player but escapes me know) stated that he was the best athlete he had ever worked with. he has some phenomenal measurables.nice bonus plan for leagues that allow kick return yardage & scores.steel town has some good looking youngsters coming up through the draft pipeline... after a rough rookie year polamalu was a pro bowler in 2004 & started 2005 where he left off last season. colclough probably has starter ability and so does bryant mcfadden (supposedly struggling after looking great early)... they should have a terrific nickle package, and there depth at CB is as good as it has been for a few years.

completely agree on Colclough, McFadden, Taylor, Polamalu & Hope... excellent scouting by the PIT FO over the last few drafts. Now if they can do the same with the front seven... There are some real age/depth issues up front (Kimo, Porter, & the like)

I agree to a major extent. The league(s) I'm referring to are Zealot leagues and similar which have 40-53 man rosters, some require CB starters. Players like Rhodes are long gone. Schulters is a typical FA so I could see how that would be of value.I guess what I'm saying here is evidence for your second point. Just make sure Ike is one of the 5-6 CBs you track for the first few weeks...

definitely like the mcgee comparison - adding to what others have said, another plus for taylor is that the steelers like to CB blitz now and again. the only way to move the ball on the stiller is passing, so taylor should be in for NICE CB tackle totals.

I cant find the Norton Eyes of The Guru anywhere. Are you sure this was new yesterday? This is my first year paying for subscription and the content is amazing but the organization of the content is terrible.

as a steeler diehard who watched us lose in the playoffs because of how weak our 5th and 6th Dbs were and have 3rd and long as a WEAKNESS (A WEAKNESS!?!?!?) of our D, this makes me very very happy.i do however, want to see hope step up and become a playmaker at FS - if he continues to be mediocre, id be fine with logan in there.
