2006 NFL DRAFT (1 Viewer)

Here goes the Cromartie bashing....
SOD imo.
 When FSU coaches say "best athlete we've had since Deion", you better pay attention.

EXACTLY what the Chargers need. Adding McCree at safety and Cromartie at corner should go a long way to shoring up the pass defense.

Now the Chargers go OL for the rest of the draft....
If Michael Johnson had played football at FSU, they would have said that about him too. Doesnt affect his ability to play Corner though.
Honestly, I've been watching FSU football all my life. He's one of the most phyiscally gifted players I've ever seen here. I was pretty sick when I heard he'd miss the entire year.
I believe you, and I think its entirely possible he'll be a great CB with some coaching. But him being a great athlete does nothing to justify the pick right now. Of course, GMs have justified more with less, so....
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Ok, then how does SD justify picking him, since being a "great athlete" does nothing to justify selecting players in professional athletic drafts.

they took a RB....didn't see it being Maroney....

hmmm I didn't like the evaluation on him....

Strengths:

A big play threat who can take it the distance from any point on the field...Has been extremely productive at the college level...Patient runner with excellent vision and instincts...Does a good job of following his blockers...Explosive with a strong lower body and the ability to break tackles...Has an extra gear and is much faster than his forty time would lead you to believe...Can also return kicks.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have the size you would like to see in a feature back...Hands are questionable at best and he was not used much as a receiver in college...Isn't a physical runner and prefers to shy away from contact...Plays in a system that is conducive to running backs producing big numbers...Didn't carry the load until the '05 season after splitting time with Marion Barber III...Hails from a program known for great college runners who failed to make much of an impact in the pros.

Notes:

A prolific college running back who might not be quite the pro prospect his press clippings would lead you to believe...There is a lot to like about this guy, but when you factor in his size, receiving abilities and the system he plays in there are certainly some things that will concern you as well...Let the buyer beware.

WTF Maroney over DeAngelo? I guess NE just HAS to pick someone everyone doesn't expect, even when people have the position pegged right.

Decent pick by the Pats. Not at all surprised to see them pass on Williams. Williams has been overhyped pretty badly across the internet.

Wow, SF screwed up bad by not going D on the 1st pick in favor of Davis IMO. Lots of O tallent still on the borad and D has really dominated this draft.

Ahead of Williams?

I'm a Gophers homer and Maroney booster, but I never expected that.

Did NE forget DW was on the board?
I've been singing the "DeAngelo is overrated" tune for a while. He's gotten tons of love on various message boards, but there's hardly been a consensus among draft experts that he's the clear #2 back in this draft. Also, New England has a recent history of using bigger backs. DeAngelo doesn't offer much size (only weighed 207 at his pro day). Maroney has the potential to bulk up to the 220-230 range.

Wow SF could nab Jimmy Williams here...that'd be a great fit and great value.
I think they will pick a williams hereOh yeah, can they pass on manny

Actually there were durability issues with Williams I heard...
May have some durability questions after suffering injuries the past two seasons...Is not the biggest or fastest running back to come along in terms of measurables...Has carried the ball a lot and has some mileage on his tires...Gives good effort as a blocker but may never be great in that area...Raised some eyebrows when he chose to sit out the Tennessee game with an injury.

.Hands are questionable at best and he was not used much as a receiver in college
Then there's the NFL profile on him:He catches the ball well out of the backfield and when lined up at receiver. He caught 83 percent of passes.

Wow....now Lawson over either of the Williams.

So do any of the mock drafts out there have more than like, 5 picks right? Seems like the internet and NFL GMs were on about as different a page as ever this year.

That's a good point. This doesn't mean maroney is better overall, just better for New England. I've never liked Maroney much, but now I have to bump him up. Not for situation as much as deference to a HC ans scouts who know their stuff.

I'll be shocked if the Bucs don't take Justice here.

*but they shocked me two years ago when they took Clayton over Stephen Jackson
