2006 Tampa Bay Bucs thread (1 Viewer)

1st) Carolina 12-4

2nd) Tampa 11-5

3rd) Atlanta 9-7

4th) Saints 8-8
With those wins, the South will have to dominate the East and possibly take both WC or split with Cards. I have a hard time seeing that happening considering the way the East is shaping up.Should be another brutally close playoff race.

The reason TJ Williams is important to us is that he's seen as the likely replacement for Anthony Becht as the blocking TE. Considering how often Tampa used a two-TE set last year to protect Simms, TE depth is a major issue and there is very little depth behind Smith/Becht. Williams at leats made most of us feel decent about our depth, now we have none (pending an injury analysis of Williams)
TJ is likely out for the year:TE Williams Out For Season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie tight end T.J. Williams likely will miss the entire 2006 season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon during Thursday’s mandatory mini-camp practice at One Buccaneer Place, team sources have told PewterReport.com.

The 6-foot-2, 253-pound Williams entered the NFL with the Bucs in April as a sixth-round pick out of North Carolina State.

Williams is the second Bucs player to sustain a season-threatening injury over the past three weeks. In mid-June, quarterback Luke McCown suffered a partially torn ACL during a voluntary workout at One Buc Place.

On Monday morning, PewterReport.com witnessed McCown walking into One Buc Place on crutches with a heavily bandaged knee brace, which suggests he has already underwent knee surgery.

The Buccaneers have not placed Williams on injured reserve, although they likely will do that before the team reports to training camp on July 27. In the meantime, the Bucs have six healthy tight ends – Alex Smith, Anthony Becht, Dave Moore, Mark Anelli, Boone Stuz and Tim Massaquoi – on their offseason roster.

Tampa Bay remains hopeful that McCown, who likely will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, will be able to play at some point during the 2006 regular season.

Not the start we are looking for...

"PewterReport.com is hearing that Tampa Bay and quarterback Jay Fiedler are close to reaching an agreement for the former Miami and NY Jets signal caller to become a Buccaneer as early as Thursday morning. PewterReport.com broke the story about Fiedler's visit to One Buc Place a week ago, and both Fiedler and the team did not hide their mutual interest in each other.

If Fiedler is signed as a replacement for injured QB Luke McCown, as we suspect he will be, he will give the Bucs an experienced, high character QB that can not only back up Chris Simms, but Fiedler can also be a good mentor for the young lefty, too.

Stay tuned to PewterReport.com for more on the Bucs-Fiedler situation. "

I hate that thread.

You guys hearing anything good about Maurice Stovall? Just drafted him in dynasty
I think he'll be the #2 next year. The Bucs are developing an offense centered around Cadillac, and part of that is getting a pair of big blocking receivers with sneaky speed and great hands.

New topic:

Over/Under on DeWayne White's sack total: 9.51

Over/Under on Simms yardage totals this year: 2999.5

Bucs Release RBs A. Hall & J. Adams

Buccaneers.com - [Full Article]

The Buccaneerss released two players on Friday. RBs Andre Hall and Jahmile Addae, both rookies who were signed as free agents after going undrafted.

Bucs are close to a deal with Barber on contract extension.

On his radio show today he said he feels like the deal will get done very soon, and that both sides really want to get it done.

Not sure of details, but I imagine it is something around 3yrs/etc, that would allow him to retire a Buccaneer.

My main question is what will BK do if Ronde gets an extension? Will he also want one? :pirate: :pirate: :pirate:

I'm really not sure. I imagine he will want an extension, but I think they may opt to let him be replaced before Barber. I still believe Barber can play another 2+ seasons as a solid corner. Even if/when he loses a step, we all know how friendly and forgiving the T2D is on corners not named Tim Wansley :) .I am hearing rumors from One Buc that Alstott is contemplating retirement. Anyone's thoughts?

Why now? Why not earlier in the offseason? This would bump up Carnell in a lot of people's minds...although I don't think it will make a big difference.

Bucs aren't going to win the Super Bowl this year :( .

Next year though...

Jeremy Trueblood signs. Need to get Davin Joseph signed next.
And Stovall  Joseph, Bucs Near Deal

Posted July 27, 2006 by Roy Cummings

2:20 p.m.: Although Davin Joseph has yet to report, indications are that the Bucs’ first-round pick could be in the fold for Friday’s first day of workouts.

Joseph’s agent, Ben Dogra, took a break from negotiations to report the sides are close to an agreement.

‘’We are very close,’’ Dogra said in a text message.

Ira Kaufmans article today in the Tampa Trib ,Pittman states Boston was a good teamate in Arizona and went to bat for him when he came here to workout.Went on to say that hes mellowed out a lot and now has a family and really seems focused and has a goal to get back to the way he was when he had 1550 yards and was unstoppable and he really likes what hes seeing of Boston right now.

Buccaneers | Fiedler reports to camp; will be limited

Published Thu Jul 27 10:36:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Katherine Smith, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jay Fiedler (shoulder) reported to training camp Thursday, July 27. Still rehabilitating a shoulder injury that required surgery last year, Fiedler said he's not 100 percent yet, and isn't sure how much he'll be able to do at Friday's first practice, July 28: "We're basically going to go by feel and just kind of see how it goes day to-day. I'm going to go out there and push it a little bit and see where it's at."

Three years in a row... all of our guys in camp on time. Have to love it.

Also, the Bucs’ offensive line depth has taken an early hit as tackle Chris Colmer said he is out for the season. Colmer, a third-round pick in 2005, was inactive for every game of his rookie season as he rehabbed after shoulder surgery
Hasta la vista, Chris.

Wasn't he expected to be cut anyway?Anyone have plans to hit up training camp? I'm thinking of going there before I head back up to FSU, and hang out with a few UCF friends while I'm in orlando.

PR says some dude named Chas Gessner is a real sleeper. Reminds them of JJ. Fonotui looked good, so did Gradkowski/ Simms/ Boldin/ Nece. Boston looked fast running routes, and Stovall made some nice grabs.

Really? I heard that Gradkowski was throwing as many INTs as completions and Gruden had been riding his ### all day. Also heard the same about Gessner. 6-4, 215... fast.... hell of a UFA pickup... good PS candidate

50/50 chance I'll be at camp tomorrow. Have to see how I feel in the morning.
Try not drinking so much tonight; you'll be fine for camp.
My buddy wants to go to the AM session because the PM will be too hot. That requires a 7 am departure time. On a Saturday.

Have you told your buddy he's a pansy yet? Good grief....what kind of doofus decides that waking up at 6:50 on a Saturday trumps getting a little sun?SLoD

He's paying for the gas and breakfast.

That's a pretty quick burn of a 3rd-round pick. We (deservedly) give GruAllen a lot of credit for other smart draft choices -- they screwed the pooch with this one.

They said he had a muscle virus  I don't think they could have predicted that. Maybe it had something to do with him sucking

Well, he was a talent pick with noted condition.... he didn't pan out. Can't blame them for trying. If he did, he'd have been a stud.

Went to camp today. Tonnnnns of people there. Unbelievable.

-Boston didn't practice, just stood on the sidelines. No idea what that's about. Probably hurt again.

-Clayton looked pretty slow and dropped a few balls.

-Simms is most definitely in charge out there. He's barking at players and all the offensive players were huddled around him while he was talking, off to the side of the practice that was going on. Very excited about him this year.

-Earnest Graham switched his number to 34 for Sowell. Took me a few to figure out who was making those nice runs. :D

-Gruden was lining up at DB and *attempting* to cover the wideouts. Pretty funny. Boy is he animated out there.

-Galloway absolutely smoked Bolden a few times on deep routes. Killed him right off the line. He then slowly walked back to the sideline, laid his helmet down and sat there for 10 minutes before he moved again. To say he's taking it easy out there is an understatement. Brooks too. I don't think he actually moved. Nor should he I guess.

All I can think of for now. It was fun, but ridiculously crowded.

Who has been running with the first unit OL?

2nd unit?

Seems like we have training camp battles at every position along the OL.

LT - Davis/Tucker - expect Davis to win

LG - Buenning/Fonoti - expect Buenning to win, but hearing lots of good news from Fonoti

C - Wade/Mahan - tossup, who knows, probabl go with the younger guy

RG - Terry/Joseph - think this is Terry's job to lose, but starting Joseph all year would be a good investment

RT - Walker/Trueblood - again, think this is Walker's job to lose, but wouldn't be surprised if they went with Trueblood.

It is only Simms's blindside ;)

Why do we have the dumbest local sports reporters?

http://www.tbo.com/sports/bucs/MGBJ5SI7AQE.html

For now, 2004 third-round pick Marquis Cooper is challenging for Nece's starting job, but he's a long shot to unseat a fifth-year pro who registered 104 tackles last season.
 WLB - Brooks/Winborn

MLB - Quarles/Ruud

SLB - Nece/Cooper

Really like the depth at LB though this year. Seems like the Bucs got deeper everywhere.

:goodposting: been reading some very good things Gruden's saying about Simms, as well as things like this!

thanks for the update..I'm thinking Simms is a huge sleeper at QB this year..

Thanks for the obs, Cap.

Sileo this morning was ripping Joseph...saying his balance and footwork was so poor could barely stand up.

Anybody been at camp and notice how the rookie OL's looked?

I think you can realistically expect 33-3500 and 22-25TDs. Beyond that would be a bit liberal IMO.Solid pickup late though, as I honestly don't see guys like Culpepper, Bledsoe and Delhomme doing much better, if at all, and Simms can be had about 5 rounds later. Going as QB23 as opposed QB8-10 as aforementioned.

Sileo is an idiot, but I listen to him also. :bag: It's free, and it's sports :D
